My husband and I travel most of the year in our 2006 Holiday Rambler Imperial. We both still work in technology but from the road. We have 4 grown children, 4 grandkids in WA and 4 grandkids in GA. We maintain an office / home in Uptown Columbus GA in a house that was built in 1890 that we are restoring. We are just a few blocks from the longest whitewater rafting route in the world in an urban environment! Our faithful traveling companion is Morgan, a 5 year old Shih Tzu.
Yes....Morgan the wonder dog! He is a trained service dog and a wonderful companion. Most people are amazed at how well behaved and well trained he is. All we know is that he loves us and we love him. He goes everywhere with us and thinks that the motorhome is his!
Rallies or events where there are lots of people! It's the people not the location!
We hang out in Columbus, GA in Uptown when we are not traveling. We lived in a loft in this area after downsizing the first time and love it. Secondarily, we hang out in the Hood Canal area of WA. In both cases it is the grandkids that draw us there and keep us there.
We have a 2006 Holiday Rambler Imperial Diesel MH and tow a Chevy Avalanche.
We had a very positive communication with our host. Our host and her husband were out of town, yet happy to let us park in their driveway, as if they were there. Although close to commercial downtown, the neighborhood is nice, quiet and seems to consist of older homes that are being updated gaining a positive feel about the neighborhod. Her directions were spot on and she advised her neighbors we'd be visiting so when we pulled in, the neighbor to her south quickly said hello and let us know the generator wouldn't bother them as their bedrooms were away from the driveway where we were parked.
We had a wonderful stay, albeit brief, and will happily visit again if our travels bring us anywhere near southwest Georgia.
Mark & Sandy are an oasis in our travels. We are usually exhausted when we arrive, and they graciously allow us to be in their driveway w/o expectations. Though an occasional train goes by, it's a nice neighborhood, and we spend a restful night. Many thanks for their hospitality!
I can not share enough good things about this beautiful couple. There is goodness in the world still, Columbus is also a beautiful town and we are planning a trip back soon to enjoy it's charm. Thank you both for a lovely evening and welcome to Columbus.
Wonderful hosts showed us what Southern Hospitality is all about. Had some great visits sitting on the porch. Thanks so much for the welcome and hope to see y’all again on the road. 5 stars plus
Such a great stay! Wonderful property to stay on and great area to be in. The host were amazing. I felt like family. They were so very kind and generous! I can't wait to come back that way and stay there again. Thank you both for everything. You are both wonderful people and glad to have met you
My host was wonderful friendly. It's amazing the information that the hostess shared about the area. Great information and tour of the area. Easy place to find.
This was a great place to stay to enjoy this adorable town! Sandy couldn’t of been more accommodating! We had a little electric issue when we arrived and she had her son come to check it out, as she was not home. Sorry we didn’t get to meet in person but look is up if you’re in Massachusetts!
Happy Travels to you!!
Sandy and Mark were delightful and as helpful as could possibly be! I hope they will come visit us sometime so we can return the favor and get to know them a bit more.
Location is very urban so it is within a few blocks of the downtown area, a river walk, and a 23 mile paved/lit path which we biked. I was also able to get a day pass for $10 and swim at the YMCA which was less than a mile away. Urban also means that you hear sirens, have lights around you, and hear the train. Not a problem at all for us, but don’t expect country quiet and city accessibility:-)
We had work to do, so we very much appreciated the speed and reliability of the WiFi, too. Sandy and Mark were very considerate about respecting our space to do that, too.
Got to their home in the middle of the afternoon and made ourselves comfortable in their driveway. We appreciated getting on the internet, using their network, so that was helpful to us. We had a quiet night, going to sleep far too early on New Year's Eve, woke up to a beautiful day, and got on the road early. Very grateful for their hospitality. We hope to return, perhaps, in the spring.
We arrived before Sandy got home and were able to get parked and set up, even in the middle of a rainstorm. The location is right in historic downtown Columbus, minutes from many things. It's in the middle of a city but it doesn't feel that way.
Sadly, we had some RV issues so we didn't get to do all that we wanted to do.
Sandy and Mark were great. I had so many issues and they were so helpful. My youngest son happily wore out her dog Morgan. They definitely loved the golf cart rides.
My sons were able to go out and sit in the yard, scooter up and down the side walk and even met a local boy who played with them most of Labor Day. The dogs loved the back yard. My one dog found a puddle and rolled in it until she was soaked. They were ecstatic to be able to get out and run.
Would definitely stay again!
This was our first time using Boondockers Welcome and it was a wonderful experience! Our hosts were super friendly and welcoming! They were super sweet to our children. We would highly recommend Fun in Uptown Columbus! Thanks guys!
This was our second stay with Sandy and Mark. Even though they weren't home, they were gracious enough to let us Park in their driveway. They always go the extra mile!
The home is in a historic neighborhood of beautiful old homes and wrought iron fences. The waterfront walking path and some historical landmarks are very close, but I was mainly here to tuck in and work. There is a corner grocery in walking distance. The neighborhood itself was very quiet, but there are trains in the late evening and early morning that run on the surface streets and thus run their horns all the way through the area. It didn't bother me, but mentioning for someone that might not like trains. The street has very little traffic so it is very easy to get backed up onto the driveway.
We had a to short stay at these super friendly couple. Had to leave because we Where nearly at the end of our 4,5 month trip. But Mark and Sandy give us a few advices what to do in town and let us use their golfchart so we saw downtown and the lovely river. Thanks for staying at your place, the nice talkings and drink!! Hope we, or our son, come again for a longer time. Johan and Loes, The Netherlands
Before coming to Columbus, we knew nothing about this special town or it’s incretibly hospitable people. Sandy and Mark went above and beyond for us as they gave us very helpful hints about how to get around town and what to explore. We took their advice had a wonderful time learning in the museums and running along the beautiful river walk. Easy in and out for our 38ft rv and such great access to downtown!
Sandy and Mark were so welcoming and accommodating! They were just getting home from vacation but still insisted that we were welcome to park next to their lovely home. We really enjoyed drinking coffee and chit chatting with them. They tell great stories and are full of tips for rving. We look forward to our next day with them!
SandyEllingson were the perfect hosts. It was an easy back in to the spot. We enjoyed a good conversation on their porch in the perfect weather. While we did not have time to enjoy the city, we would stop by again if we are in the area.
Sandy and Mark are ideal hosts, as they hung with us when we wanted company as well as gave us a local recommendation for repairing our rig. We found they are very well-traveled. You will enjoy them.
Great place. Sandy was very hospitable and gracious to let our family stay there. Sandy's place is w/in close proximity to the hip side of town. We road our bike over to get ice cream. Then I went on a nice run on the river sidewalk the next morning. Thanks so much.
Sandy & Mark are an Awesome couple, offering true southern hospital! Welcomed me & my lodge as if we were family! Instantly felt at ease, enjoyed learned about the area, their own extensive road- traveling & RVing adventures. Great positive energy & shared resources.
Their house is close to downtown Columbus which we all walked (with dogs & cute grandgirls). Lots of private contributions with grand success for the community; enhanced educational, recreational and societal investments. Loved walking the nearby historic district, admiring the many federal houses renovated or in process and the improved Fun riverwalk! (A mechanical "wave machine" was installed expanding kayaking & rafting adventures. Maybe I'll try on a future visit.). Sorry could only stay one night as I'm on a tight deadline but Know our paths will cross and we'll stay in touch.
FULLY RECCOMEND, if you can catch them when they're home.
