We've thoroughly enjoyed our many guests. But we haven't had a chance to be guests more than once so far. We camp in both mountains and deserts in a small pull trailer. It's always nice to have full hook-ups, but we fully enjoy boondocking to. We sometimes like to take two 4-wheelers along and find places to explore. We enjoy visiting, sharing our world, and learning about other boondockers and their experiences.
Harold worked in communications for the forest service. He likes to restore model trains, used to hunt big game locally, and did an extensive remodel of our home.
Genevieve is interested in other's travel experiences and family histories. She designed and decorated the home and is interested in design ideas you have used. She also likes to explore and learn about new places and cultures and to read.
Buttercup is our 10 year old 12 pound spayed Yorki-Poo who travels with us. She loves adults and is quite prone to jump on your legs and in your lap and lick you, so please tell her no and push her off. She is not used to children but won't be afraid of them if they are quiet and gentle with her. She has also not lived with other dogs, so she may be grumpy or may want to play. Some large dogs have roughly pawed her so she is both curious and afraid of them and will snap at them if she thinks they plan to be rough, so we watch her. However, she's gotten along well with our many guest pooches and cats.
In winter and spring we like to go where it's warm and dry, as in Arizona, Southern Utah, and company.
In summer we like cooler areas like the mountains, beach or prairie anywhere in the US and Canada.
We live just outside McCall, Idaho. It is a small tourist town on Payette Lake in Idaho's west-central mountains. Our summer nights can be quite chilly and we think we are hot when we reach 90 degrees. Our night skies are full of stars and the air is clear, unless we're having forest fires in the area. Cascade lake and Payette River are nearby with all the outdoor activities, adventure guides and rentals. Idaho's premier state park, Ponderosa, is on our lake shore and the lower 48's largest forest, Payette, keeps it's headquarters here. We have a couple museums, a few art galleries and some interesting shops. There is a variety of good restaurants, coffee shops and taverns with live music on summer weekends. You might happen to catch our farmer's market, one of our music festivals, or an art fair. We have two nice big grocery stores with all the extras, including sporting goods and clothing. In Idaho wine and beer are sold in stores and we have a state run liquor store. There are three RV dump sites here.
We have a 17 foot narrow Wolf Pup pull trailer. We pull with either an older red Ford flat-bed or a newer white Chevy.
Our hosts were very generous to be hosting in the middle of winter. They were very friendly and we enjoyed their hospitality. Hopefully we can visit them again.
We stayed in McCall while on a late-season round trip from Spokane via Idaho and Oregon. Set up a stay with Summer Getaway with ease and appreciated the generous maneuvering room for our fifth wheel.
The setting is park-like on the edge of a beautiful small city oriented towards a healthy tourist industry in an idyllic setting on a big lake in between forested mountains.
The host is a very interesting and congenial fellow with fascinating tales of his career. We didn't get to meet Mrs. Host but we know she is an excellent interior decorator and is probably as interesting as her husband. Mr. Host gave us good ideas for site-seeing including visiting an old gold mining camp with 6 permanent residents and a cool restaurant.
We really appreciated our stay and hope to return some day.
Thank you very much.
Summer Getaway hosts were so friendly and helpful to us. The area that they had us park on was easy to get through as our hosts showed us how to drive through, no backing up, to get there. It is a very nice grassy area. We highly recommend staying at Summer Getaway!
Very peaceful and quiet in a beautiful setting. Can’t say enough about how generous and easy it was! Thank- you !
Wonderful hosts and a great site on their beautiful property.. we would love to stay here again when we're in this area. We found this to be a great summer getaway! A big thank you to our kind and informative hosts!
Not only did the hosts accommodate me despite having already other boondockers, I felt so welcome and comfortable there right away. Super nice people. And their little dog is the cutest thing :)
Their property and their house are something else. Self designed and built and gorgeous ! Very well maintained place.
I hope I get to stay with them the next time I'm in the area.
Thank you guys again for helping me out !
Nice plot of land close to McCall. Hosts were very hospitable and offered information of what to see in town. I got a great nights sleep and would stay there again when visiting this beautiful lake side small town.
Had a easy in , flat spot with 20 amp power. Great people and the town of McCall is a terrific place to spend some summer.

SummerGetaway are a wonderful couple, easy going, very nice location to the town of McCall, and easy access for almost any size rig. You'll be better for having stayed with them!
Had a wonderful three night stay. Beautiful property. Harold was beyond helpful. Wooded area for the kids to hang hammocks. Peaceful. Beautiful. Can't go wrong.
Just good people! Very welcoming. We played a fun family game of football in there field. There were very happy to say yes when we ask. I wish I would have had more time to hang out!
Thank your for being what I call old school friendly and down to earth!
This was my second stay with Summer Getaway and it is a wonderful experience. You won’t regret staying here.
H & G were so welcoming! They have us info for the surrounding area which was really convenient. Beautiful location, easy to find and they have a sweet little dog. Definitely would recommend a stay here. Thanks for being so accommodating!
P.s. Sunday we found morels at ponderosa state park! Yay 😊
Such lovely hosts on a lovely property. We had great conversation, the offered us a guide and suggestions of the area, and their place is in biking distance of the quaint downtown. Thank you!
These are wonderful courteous people. Have stayed here twice now.
Thank you again!
I'm sure I already left a reference but here it is again. This was my first Boondocker experience and it was a very positive one. Harold greeted me and helped with locating my RV next to his hookups. Genevieve provided me with a packet of information including a summary sheet of local dump stations, propane sites, laundromats, post office, etc. They were also very informative about where to visit and hike. They have a very nice, quiet location. You will enjoy their company and site.
Harold and Genevieve welcomed me with open arms. Harold helped with pulling in my RV, unloading my car from the tow dolly, and backing my RV next to the plugin. Genevieve provided me with a small stack of information on local sites and activities. What was really useful was a sheet she put together herself that listed trash sites, dump stations, laundromats, etc that are useful for RV'ers first stay in McCall, ID.
After my first full day there they invited me into their home for homemade stew and great conversation. They have a beautiful home that they remodeled over many years. Genevieve did the design, and Harold followed orders to provide a super friendly interior.
I highly recommend this wonderful host couple for any RV'er who wants to visit the area.
It’s so nice and relaxing, our host so friendly and welcoming. He said OK to spend a couple more nights here. Thank you so much.
Our stay at Summer Getaway at the start of fall was just about perfect. The site was easy to get in and out, level, and quiet. Our hosts were very friendly, letting us know where to set up. It was a little cool and rainy, so we didn't get to chat much, but they were very nice.
Their cheerful property is just outside the core of McCall, but that's perfect. It allows you to enjoy, or avoid, the crowds as you choose. We highly recommend stopping by to anyone in this area.
SummerGetaway is the perfect location, easy access, and the hosts are helpful!
Very nice couple, very accommodating. Excellent location, near town and all facilities (grocery, restaurants) without being in the middle of mccall.
I was greeted by a large wild mule dear with quite a rack. Then their pup, then my hosts! It was so windy across Wyoming my door handle on my trailer almost juggled off! He replaced the missing screw. This couple are some of the kindness folks you'll meet. The drive up 55, winding and amazing rapids! Town, lake and river nearby!
Thanks so much for being boondockers and allowing same day booking even though we didn't make it. Communication was really prompt. Thanks again
We stayed here two nights and would have loved to stay another if we hadn't had a prior meeting down the road. We so enjoyed our stay and look forward to a return visit the next time we are traveling through. The pine forest all around, many deer and easily accessible space to park our 39' 5th-wheel made for an extremely pleasant stay!
This was our first time using BW and our hosts were great! We got to fill our water tank, dump our trash, have an electrical hookup and our dogs were able to run off leash in the large grassy yard. Their property has a rural feel but is only 5 minutes from town!
We absolutely LOVED staying at Summer Getaway. McCall was SO busy after the Juky 4th holiday but getting to stay at this quiet country scenic property was perfect! We cycled for 3 hours from our rv into Ponderosa State park then back all on different bike paths. Yes we'll come again!!!
We had a wonderful stay with our hosts. They were incredibly friendly and kind! McCall is beautiful too! The location was convenient, relaxing and pretty. We hope to come back again. A great first experience with Boondockers Welcome.
Both Hosts were great. Beautiful piece of property, excellent space, awesome back porch visits. Buttercup was our entertainment!
C U again someday....
Aref and Hansi
Once again, I am writing before we leave because SummerGetaway offered to have us stay longer and we accepted so we won't be leaving until tomorrow...and that is with regret and only because we have another "appointment." Truly, this has been another shining example of what is wonderful about BDW. From the communication, being met as we came in the driveway, the information about McCall to the grciousness of both our hosts, long, wonderful conversations it has just been such a treat! They gave us ideas of what to do and see and lots of tips and even one for when we are on the road tomorrow. Buttercup, the Yorkie-Poodle has been such a love and we are doubly glad because our cat has had some urinary stress issues due in part to a bad encounter with a dog and Buttercup's sweetness has relaxed him again... the two of them are almost friends.
The site is quiet, level and surrounded by beauty. Minutes away from town yet it feels like you are far removed. The gardens are lovely, the neighborhood rooster will crow sometimes and there is a field of yaks right down the road.
McCall is gorgeous and well worth an extended visit. The lake is beautiful, town is cute although we did not spend much time there. The list of possible places you might need is perfect.
We will remember this visit for a long time and hope that if we get back through this area again we can return. Thanks to both of you for EVERYTHING!
We got caught up on some chores and an appointment while at SummerGetaway. Our hosts let us move the van a little in the afternoon so we could take advantage of the shade of the shop. They had several helpful pieces of information about the area and were very welcoming to Robbie. Their acres show the beauty of decades of care. Highly recommend this location if you are travelling through Idaho.
Such a great visit--fantastic location and ever better hosts!! McCall is a great little town and our hosts had a great launching point to explore the area. They also have a cool dog--buttercup!! Really enjoyed our stop here!!
Wonderful stay with such welcoming, generous, helpful hosts in a very beautiful area. Highly recommend and would love to visit again.
Had a wonderful visit. There was much to share. Learned a lot. The space was very comfortable. The host taught me how to keep my pipes from freezing and my hostess shared some wonderful things about her growing up days.
Thanks again!
“Summer Getaway” was really easy to drive to , especially as they emailed us really specific directions. It was easy to pull in & setup even with our 42’ + tow. Got to sit on the deck & have a great chat the first night & meet Buttercup. We ended up only staying the one night since the weather forecast showed snow the next day. They were super friendly hosts & we’d love to spend more time with them another time & also get to see some of the great surrounding country.
This was are first boondocker experience and how wonderfull!!
The hosts met us upon arrival and we right away we felt so welcome.
We spent hours talking with them about life in the mountains compared to city life.
They have enriched our lives. We would love to come back some time in the future.
Great place to stay. Hosts went out of their way to make us feel welcome. They took us around McCall and the Ponderosa State Park. Take your bikes and ride the many trails McCall has to offer. Would stay there again.
Excellent hosts! Easy to get to and easy to maneuver too very pretty area. Buttercup’s cool!!
And thanks for your help with my brake issue. Seems like it’s all good now. Thanks.
Harold and Genevieve are very nice folks. Their parking spot is easy to get to and very quiet. The town of McCall is very pretty too. We really appreciated their kind and generous hospitality. Plenty of room for our 49’ MH. Thank you.
Unfortunately we were not able to stay as a guest and had to cancel. Throughout the whole booking and cancelling process the communication and friendliness was outstanding. We are looking forward to meeting them in the future.
