We live on a farm in rural Iowa raising mainly corn and soy beans. (Hobbies) Hosting a Boondockers.com host site and maintaining my farmstead. We really enjoyed traveling in our motorhome but never seem to have any spare time to do it. So guest come to us. I am retired but my wife is still employed. Looking forward to when she retires so we can travel more. I used to be very computer literate with the windows 95 and 98 system but I am completely in the dark with windows 10. (Check out our host site)
One outside farm cat. The cat stays home he does not travel with us

We had an amazing stay at Burkhart Farm. Our hosts were amazing and super accommodating. We had great electric hook up, water nearby, and amazing wifi! We would definitely stay here again if we're ever in the area!
whimsical owl and Mickey mouse lights guide you onto the property surrounded by corn fields as far as the eye can see. Look up and you can actually see the stars twinkling! Our host offered the use of his pickup truck named " ol' Frostbite" so we drove to town and enjoyed dessert at local cafe. Awoke to a gorgeous sunrise over the cornfield lined skyline. Climbed to the top of the spiral staircase on the grain bin to get a picturesque view. 50 amp hookup a bonus! Host took us our for breakfast next morn and a tour of the town and local history. Stopped by local family creamery and bought dairy products and other goodies for souvenirs. Met hosts son who was a rodeo bull rider and now is a professional rodeo clown! Great stop!
Property was easy to get to, very level and generally just a great spot. Hosts were very friendly and helpful!!! Highly recommended!!
Even though this boondocker location is a very short distance off the paved road, it feels like you are in the middle of the remote countryside. It is quiet and calm (the harvest has not begun yet). We were given our choice of parking spots. They have numerous spots on the farm with 110, 30 amp and 50 amp plug ins available. (Glad this retired electrician and his wife are so generous).
The hosts are kind and welcoming. They seemed to enjoyed having my boys around, laughing at their silliness.
A big plus for me was the AMAZING Wi-fi. I teach English online so I have to have good wifi. I usually use my hotspot on my phone which is just barely enough. The Burkhart wifi was better than even when I use my sisters 5G cable internet.
This farm will definitely be on my favorites to stay at any time we are in the area. Thanks so much.
The Burkhart's farm was very accommodating, helpful, and kind. This was our first Boondockers Welcome stay, and we absolutely loved it. Definitely a quiet getaway spot in the country. You are surrounded by cornfields, it all makes for very beautiful scenery.
We had an amazing night, even with a thunder & lightening storm, safely nestled in between a beautiful cornfield and well maintained silos that were able to provide any amperage of power that a rig might need. These hosts could not have been more welcoming and helpful, ready to meet us and provide anything we needed, lovely conversation, printed info on resources & area attractions and stories of their own RV travels. One night was not enough at Burkhart Farms.
This was such a nice place to stay. It was a rainy day, but it cleared off and we had a beautiful sunset. Burkhart Farm was helpful getting us set up in our spot. We got up early and enjoyed watching the sun rise over the corn field. An enjoyable stay. We would definitely stay here again.
Our first Boondocker visit! Lovely hosts, very friendly and helpful. Rain in Iowa but we got a walk in this morning down the quiet county road. Thank you Mark and Donna!
So much more than we could have expected. Location was rural, quiet and very peaceful, so welcomed after a long day of travel.
What wonderful hosts. Greeted us when we arrived and helped set us up on a level spot with electric and water! Also provided a great resource packet. We chatted quite a while and really enjoyed learning more about them.
The location was so pleasant, we were surrounded by cornfields and silos and being city folk found the scenery delightful. Sunny dog had a grand time running around on soft green grass. It was raining slightly and soon after we settled in the sun came out and we had the most marvelous rainbow, surely a sign of luck as our refrigerator seemed to like the level spot and recovered (whew!)
We were greeted in the morning with a gift of delicious biscuits which we enjoyed with our morning coffee.
These hosts are exactly the type of BW Hosts we would hope to be like some day!
Thank you from Eve, Hilton and Sunny!
I had such a lovely stay at the Burkhart Farm, that I stayed again on my return trip home. They are wonderful hosts. So friendly and welcoming. Shortly after getting settled, I discovered my fresh water tank was almost empty. Mr. Burkhart assisted with running a long hose out to my spot so I didn't have to move my rig over to the water faucet.
It was nice to have 50 amp service so I could cool my rig on a warm afternoon.
The morning of my departure, Mr. Burkhart brought me some freshly baked cheddar biscuits. They were delicious and much appreciated.
I can't say enough kind things about the Burkhart Farm and the lovely hosts - Mr. and Mrs. Burkhart.
They will always be my stop when travelling up I-35
I stopped at the Burkhart Farm on my way to Minneapolis for time with family and the State Fair. This was my maiden voyage and the very first time off-farm for my dogs (other than to the vet).
This was the perfect stop ever!! The Burkhart's were such gracious hosts. I truly enjoyed hanging out and talking with them. It was like catching up with old friends!
Their farm was so great, that I asked to stay again on my return trip home.
Again, I arrived with welcome arms. The greeted me with smiles and engaging conversation. We simply picked up where we left off. Later, I realized I was super-low on fresh water (empty!). Mr. Burkhart helped hook up over 100 foot of hose to fill my tanks. So above and beyond! (I also learned a great way to curl up my hoses at home!) Win-Win all the around!
I cannot imagine any Harvest Host ever topping the Burkhart Farm. I am so blessed to have stayed here and will ALWAYS stop here on future trips to Minneapolis!
Our stay at the Farm was great. Perfect hosts! The farm is a little ways off I-80 but definitely worth the short drive. Our first Boondockers welcome experience was without a doubt ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️‘S
Ya, we were out of touch in remote boondocking locations and missed the wi fi Mark provided
A quiet, wonderful stay! Loved the fireflies. Very gracious hosts! Would definitely come back.
We had a relaxing few days at the Burkhart farm. Very accomadating host .
This was our favorite stop yet ! We couldn’t have imagined a more beautiful spot and nicer hosts . We learned so much about the farm and area , we were even given a booklet about things to do in the area . Which came in very handy we ended up staying longer and touring museums. Our dog had a blast running around .
There’s not many times in a persons Life that they have an experience like we did at this location. It was absolutely perfect! Our Hosts were nice and friendly, and were very accommodating. We loved the peace and quiet. Would definitely stay here again!
This is a great spot. Beautiful and peaceful. They were super helpful getting me set up and comfy.
Peace and quite is what we were looking for and that is what we got. This is a Great place to unwind and relax. Enjoyed the stars at night and the peace & quite is second to none as we slept like a couple babies every night of our stay.
Our Hosts were beyond compare and so accommodating as they immediately made us feel right at Home when we first arrived. I had to pinch myself more than once to make sure I wasn’t dreaming because that’s what it will feel like if you choose to stay here.
Thank You to our wonderful Hosts for a very enjoyable stay.
We loved staying on your farm. Thank you for the biscuits. They were delicious. A little bit out of the way as we were coming east on 80 but the quiet and warm greeting we experienced after a long day on the road was worth it
We had a great stay at the farm. We where shown where the connections were, & all I had to do was pick the one I wanted. My dog, Jayke & I had some great walks along the corn fields, & enjoyed the lightning bug show during our evening walk. We would definitely stay here again.
Excellent accommodations and host. Stayed for 2 nights in a 5th wheel with 50A hookup on the gravel drive by the grain silo. Burkhart’s were very gracious and informative. This was the ideal location for a great memory.
We just loved staying here. This was a longer stay than we usually make and it was so lovely. We enjoyed the view of the corn fields and learning about the farm. We had great conversations with our hosts who are just THE BEST. It was a perfect location on our journey west and very easy to get to coming from the Boone directions. FYI we took 30 all the way from I80 Worlds Largest Truck Stop and it was very easy and nice break from Interstate driving. We are a big rig and we had all the room we need. We were so thankful for the 50 amp hookup given the hot summer heat and offered up some cash for its use (as anyone should do). We didn't get to do any sightseeing as we were in need of downtime but next time we pass thru we are sure to stop again, and maybe that firepit and bbq will be ready. ;) I highly recommend these Boondockers Welcome hosts! So make your travel plans through Iowa (which is beautiful open road) and book with Burkhart Farms!
Easy to find location. The Burkharts were very friendly and checked on us a few times during our stay.
I was able to fill my water tank and easily connect to 50 amp power. WiFi speed and signal was great.
We had a level gravel spot behind a silo facing the corn field.
This is a GREAT site to visit. Hosts were very welcoming. They even gave us a packet with local places to see and local services. In the morning they drove their golf cart to our RV with warm freshly made biscuits. You can park in an isolated place with only cornfields as neighbors and plug into one of several electric outlets on the silo.
The owner is exactly the kind of person you want to meet on the road, honestly I don't think there is a selfish bone in his body. When I arrived he offered water and 30a extension cords to reach one of (his many) plugins. It was quite night and day with only the occasional car driving down the road. Used the wifi for a few minutes to do work, worked well and was fast.
From the local town directions are very straightforward and easy to follow, road is in decent condition but has a few curves and you spend <half mile on gravel.
Overall it was a very positive experience and I would definitely recommend.
This was a beautiful and quiet place to stay. We were only passing through and able to stay one night but if we were in the area we would love to go back there. Mark was a very helpful host and gave us a wonderful packet of information on the area which we will be hanging onto for future use.
We stayed at the Burkhart's farm for 3 nights. The setting was so peaceful and Mr. Burkhart made sure we had everything we needed. They went above and beyond our expectations, even offering the shelter of their home when a bad storm was predicted. We would definitely stay here again!
I arrived about supper time on a week night. My smiling hosts showed me where to park next to a silo and provided an extension cord since mine was not long enough for the job. He even offered bug spray! Very thoughtful. This Georgia girl is always packin' bug repellant! Then the rain started. Sorry we didn't have a chance to visit. They had engagements and I was skee-daddlin'. The flat dirt & gravel farm roads were a pleasure for me having just come out of bumpy Forest Service roads. If you want to spend more time on pavement getting to this site, follow host's directions. Google, especially coming up from I-80, "takes you on four extra miles of dirt." Recommend this host & site.
Such wonderful hosts. There is a lot of room here for multiple boondockers, there were even two others with us the same evening. The hosts even told us about the beans and corn and let us look in the silos. A very neat experience! He even had electric for us which was a plus. Would definitely recommend this stop!
A great set up for multiple units. A welll maintained farm with friendly owners!
This lovely, and peaceful location is in rural Iowa and it’s absolutely beautiful. Nothing but open fields and lots of lush greenery. Host was very kind and helpful, even provided a packet of local information and even food menus! Definitely worth the stop! Thank you for your hospitality!
They have welcomed us very well. They took the time to make sure that everything was fine. A lot of space and it's easy to get in and get out. We highly recommend this place !
Super bel accueil à notre arrivée. Ils ont pris le temps de s'assurer que tout était parfait. Beaucoup d'espace et c'est facile d'entrer et sortir. On recommande fortement !
It is late April, you know that month in the middle of Spring, just before May? It was rainy, cloudy, COLD and the winds were blowing to bring the wind chill down to winter levels. We arrived windblown and mud covered and immediately felt welcome. M. showed us the best place to park where we were sheltered, with 50amps guaranteeing heat overnight as the temps plunged below freezing and chatted with us for awhile until none of us could stand in the cold any longer. He also gave us a wonderful booklet with a list of all the sites to visit, not only around them but, in IA AND offered WiFi. Since we had to leave early the next morning we did not get a chance to meet Mrs B so we hope to on a return trip.
The sun rose over frosty fields and fog and the turkeys were gobbling in the distance so it was even a great visit for my camera.
We have lucked out again with hosts because this stay was yet another reason we love BDW. Thanks Burkhart!
Great hosts, very helpful, and very organized. We enjoyed meeting them and making a memory we will never forget. Hopefully we can meet again and share more stories, wine and cheese curds.
The Burke’s were excellent hosts. They have several parking spots with 30/50 amp electric hookups. Free WiFi and lots of OTA TV channels. We were blessed with a beautiful sunset and sunrise too!
The area is great for peace and quiet. Mark is a very considerate and accommodating host.
We stayed 3 nights. Enjoyed sunrises and sunsets. On clear day, we were able to see 12 miles. Burkhart Farms was friendly and accommodating. There were antique shops and a unique warehouse and toy museum in nearby towns. We look forward to passing their way again.
We had a great night! Tons of open space to maneuver and park, open space for the kids to run around. The Burkarts were so nice and helpful, making sure we had everything we needed. We especially appreciated the electrical hookups :)
We arrived after dark to the Burkhart Farm and were warmly greeted by our hosts. The couple is awesome and their property is beautiful with plenty of space. Our hosts offered to allow us another night, but we already had plans to meet with friends. 100% recommend y’all try to stay here. We hope to visit again and spend more time with our hosts. Great family!
We had a perfect stay on the farm. Got a lot of information about the land and the corn and the soy. They gave us everything we needed. Next morning we joined them to watch the bicycle tour and enjoyed it. Great hosts
Our host were great very nice people we had a very relaxing time we enjoyed the farm and the surrounding town our host was very gracious we shared our RV adventures and picked each others brain on RVing and boomdocking we enjoyed a morning breakfast in town we didn't do the trestle as every afternoon it rained we did go to the creamery you get the chance don't pass that one up we hope one day we will come back or run into our host along our paths of adventure. Thank you for all your help we appreciate out new friends.
The hosts are very friendly and they love traveling so they make the perfect hosts. They are very accomodating with hook up and water. The host even brought his picnic table over to where we parked our camper. No need for big rigs to worry about space or turning radius - it's wide open. Great little Iowa oasis. Thanks for letting us stay.
What an amazing stop! We booked this just to say we got to Iowa but what a surprise. This is a relaxing heartland spot with very gracious hosts! I can honestly say we have never plugged into a grain silo, but we can check that one off our list now. Our hosts were so welcoming and answered all of our questions about the area and the state. Our little dog had the run of the place exploring the soya bean fields, the silos, the barns, and anywhere he could get into (with his peeps, of course.) We had a great old "chin wag" with our hosts about all things RVing, farming and Disney! Easy access, easy in and out. Nearest shopping is a few miles away so you may want to stop at Walmart or Aldi on your way in. Don't miss out on a great relaxation stop. Disclaimer: Visit was in June, no guarantees about winter months!
Ps: when we got ready to leave we couldn’t star the rig. Several hours later and with the help of Mark’s mechanic friend we were back in business. Mark graciously extended our stay and we got on our way a day later than planned. What an altogether great experience!
Burkharts where wonderful hosts, they where very accomodating this early in the seaason, hope to stay again when the weather is more enjoyable
