My wife of 40+ years. loved our location in the hills a short distance off the Lake Superior shore, We now have changed our location do to travel and new additions of Grandbabies . We have set up a new Host location in Mora Mn. So if you have stayed with us before at Our North shore hide-a-way we look forward to you visiting us at our new location Kanabec Hide-a-way. when we are not traveling in our motorhome or visiting our sons . we love the outdoors fishing , riding the trails on atv or snowmobiles
we are creative and some what mechanically inclined and have a fairly good supply of tools
we have a very unique cat named Gabby
We don't mind a quick stop for the night at a Walmart or Sam's club . But we love visiting Boondockers Welcome host sites and meeting unique people from different places around the country , and exploring their NECK OF THE WOODS. See you on the road or in our driveway !
Was Finland , Now Mora Minnesota
We have a large Vanleigh Vilano fifth wheel trailer . . Pulled by a Ford F350 Dully Appropriately named Beauty & the Beast
Stayed with us on there way back home during covid deal so we were only able to speak with them at a distance. Very nice. Maybe next time we can hang out some more.
RichnSandy were very nice guests, enjoyed our conversations about RVing and being a landlord! Always welcomed guests at Big Daddy's. Thanks,
These folks stayed with us one night. They were very kind and courteous. The fellas shared "Navy" stories.
We had a great time hosting and getting to know Rich and Sandy. We enjoyed talking about travels. We hope we will be able to stay at their place sometime.
The weather was a little rainy so maneuvering their big rig around without going on the grass was a little tricky. But Rich got it done!! Safe travels!
We had such a happy visit with these wonderful people. We had a great time talking and sharing stories, They had a new side by side and took my son on a fun ride. I only hope if you get the chance to host this couple you jump at it and have as great experience as we did. We sure hope to see then again.
First time we hosted and first time they where a Boondocker guest was great experience. Hope all guest are this good. Thank You
Had some great conversations and the site was super quite and private. Thanks for having us!
There's a reason Rich and Sandy are called Ultra-Hosts. They are great folks and wonderful hosts! Where-ever you see them offering their hospitality, you can rest assured they are great Americans and great people. I'm not reviewing the site because I think we are their last guests as they prepare to move to a new location. But where-ever they end up, they will be a blessing. They opened their place and their home and gave great advice for seeing the North Shore.
Thanks for all your hospitality, Rich and Sandy!
Hiking, biking, waterfall chasing and beach napping. It's all within reach, and both Rich and Sandy were welcoming and easygoing. Perfect stay and we hope to be back.
Another GREAT boondocking experience! Rich & Sandy were AWESOME hosts! Highly recommend! Hope to return soon!
At 44 feet we were their biggest guests and we were able to get in, around and out without any issues. Great to meet Rich and Sandy and it was a quiet, dark and beautiful place to stay. Our plan is to stay in touch and see them again.
Great hosts, great location. Did a great job of directing me to many local attractions and even took me for an ATV ride. Felt right at home!!!
Wonderful, generous hosts. Thank you for a lovely evening with conversation and fire on your deck.
Even though Rich and Sandy were not home during our stay we totally enjoyed staying at their place. It was nice..Thanks
Mike
North Shore Hide-Away is a quiet location. The host met us upon arrival. He graciously accepted a slight change in last minute plans as one of my climbing friends came along with his car. It was raining when I arrived and I had to leave very early the next morning so I did not get to interact much with the host who seemed very friendly.
I enjoyed my one night that I stayed. I was scheduled for three, but had to cut my additional days stay short. They have a really cool spot deep in the woods, & are really close to alot of great places along the Lake Superior west side. Hopefully I'll be back to see more of them.
Rich was there to greet us upon arrival and show us to our spot. There were other guests occupying the normal spot next to the provided hookups, but he gave us a good level spot next to them and provided 20 amp service if we needed it. It was a cool night so we didn't use it but it was good to have access anyway. There are a few roads nearby to walk down and see the forest, but watch out for the deer flies! A good hat goes a long way.
Rich and Sandy were fantastic hosts! This was our first Boondockers Welcome stay and It was great! They were very helpful with information about the surrounding area. The kids had a great ride on the atv and really enjoyed the special treat! Thank you for making our stay wonderful!
Rich was very helpful in troubleshooting my extended stabilizers. Gave me the repair part.
Great home base for exploring the North Shore and Superior Forrest.
We had a great time with Rich and Sandy. Good location, easy access, beautiful area to visit. Thank you for the UTV ride, interesting conversation and a lovely treat. Looking forward to seeing you in Ontario when you get here! Plan for a few days' stay and don't forget the fishing rods and ATV.
This was our second time staying with Rich and Sandy and we couldn’t have enjoyed it more. We were welcomed onto their property like family and felt very welcome and comfortable. Their property made a wonderful base camp for all of the activities to do on the North Shore. North Shore Hideaway is highly recommended!
Hosts were very accommodating especially when we had to change our plans and come in a day early. They Even put a forger out one evening to try to help get rid of some of the flies and mosquitoes. The site is set back down a long driveway which makes for a very quiet evening. You may need some leveling blocks depending on which site you pick to park your RV. We enjoyed our many conversations with the hosts and visiting many of the nearby waterfalls. We found there was a Sani dump at the rec center in town however it did not have a water Fill up. But the host have the best water we’ve ever had. Hope to see them in Florida.
Great place to stay. Easy in and easy out. Off the road a ways.
Was up for the weekend to ride ATV, Very close to the ATV trails.
Rich-n-Sandy even went on the ride with us!
Great Hosts! Will visit again!!
Thank you!!
Stayed at Rich and Sandy’s home in the most beautiful setting even though they were gone for the weekend. Generous and kind hosts. Thank you. Most grateful!
Great hosts
Thanks so much for info about the N Shore
Favorite spot do not miss Illgen Falls & Grand Portage National monument and interpretive center
Being able to stay through the holiday weekend even though hosts were traveling also was over the top hospitality

What a beautiful home and property. I was amazed how quiet it was. I hope to come back here someday and meet the owners, how gracious is that, they weren’t even home and allowed us to stay.
Thank you so much!
Rich and Sandy have a ‘sweet’ spot in the north woods, not far from a place we once called home in Ely. They communicated timely before and during our stay, despite traveling themselves at the same time. Thanks for letting us stay!
Thank you for another great experience with Boondockers Welcome.
Our hosts were quick to respond to our request, welcomed us upon arrival, and helped us get settled in.
We got acquainted with them, and then we set off on our own to hike and explore the numerous State Parks.
They loaned us their book 61 Gems on Hwy 61 that really helped us find some areas of interest that we would have missed on our own. [Pink Beach, Black Beach, etc]
We were thrilled on our 2nd evening that a little bear showed up in their back yard to help himself to the berry bushes. We spent two nights with them and really appreciate it.
I highly recommend the pies at Rustic Inn north of Two Harbors.
Hosts are quick to reply and accommodating. Extremely quiet and remote location.
I absolutely cannot say enough good things about our stay. The area is incredible! The number of waterfalls and the hiking blew us away with their beauty. We are hikers and bikers and just loved the area. The number of things to do and see along Hwy 61 is endless.
Rich and Sandy could not have been better hosts. Their hospitality went above and beyond what we could have imagined. The evening we arrived was the Perseid meteor shower and Rich built a bonfire and we sat out watching the meteors until 11:30 with them. The stars and the Milky Way are so beautifully visible from there. They were so helpful pointing out things to do and places to go. We plan on going back just to see all the beautiful things we didn’t have time to see on this stay. My birthday was during the stay and they gave us a ride to dinner at the local supper club in their Polaris General. Definitely a highlight for us! Their generosity with their electricity, water and time was unbelievable. We had another bonfire and a lot of good talks and they went from strangers to friends quickly.
This was our first stay with Boondockers Welcome and I’m afraid Rich and Sandy set such a high standard it will be difficult for other hosts to come close to their hospitality.
Thank you again for making our stay one we will never forget!
Rich and Sandy were unable to be there while we visited, but we got the sense that they are incredibly wonderful people! They had other campers there, Jim and Pam, who showed us around and were super nice. They raved about our hosts and we were very sad we didn't get the chance to meet.
Thanks so much for the hospitality!
Rich and Sandy are great hosts and we had a wonderful time at their home. This was our first time to stay with Boondockers Welcome and it was a great experience. Everything was as described; we were able to hook up to electricity and use WIFI. The skies were clear and we had a great view of the Milky Way. We enjoyed visiting with the hosts, who are great people, and the other guests. We even went to dinner together and one night there was a big bonfire. As an added bonus there are wild raspberry plants along the driveway.
Rich-n-Sandy were awesome hosts. They gave me info about what were things to do and see in the area. I was able to go and see and do what I came there to do, to see the beauty of the North Shore area. They were very tolerent of my dog when she was having a bad day and didn't want to be friends with their son's dog. We got to sit by a campfire my last night and visit with some new guests that arrived that day. Later we sat out and watched the meteor shower and the bright stars and milky way that I don't get to see in Dallas. Rich took me the last day to a gravel pit to shoot my new shotgun I had bought. Really enjoyed my stay and would love to stay again when in the area. Did I sayThey Were awesome hosts. :-)

Yes, all the other reviews are right. The Hosts are great people and the location is pure north woods.
We hope the Hosts will look us up when they travel to the SouthWest. We will have some fun for sure.
And that picture of the baby bear. That is not a cardboard cut out.
From the Host's location you can visit the Wolf Center and Black Bear centers in Ely. And you can make it to Grand Portage and back with time to explore along the way.
We had a great time exploring and a great time meeting these fun people.
Rich and Sandy were very hospitable. They are on 30 wooded acres which is very peaceful. I would recommend staying here if you are in the area.
Rich & Sandy are a wonderful addition to your list of hosts.
They are a great couple that goes out of their way to make you feel welcome.
Their host location IMHO is perfect for any size &/or type of RV.
It's location is perfect for exploring the NW area of Minnesota alongthe
Great Lake, Superior coast & less than 100 miles to the border of Canada.
And also very convenient to many MN State & National Forests w lakes & campgrounds.
I very much enjoyed being their 1st guest & I feel that we have created a new friendship.
I do hope to return again.
Thank you Rich & Sandy.
Sincerely,
Chuck
My husband and I have been boondocking for years but this is our first encounter on boondockerswelcome.com. Our hosts set the bar impossibly high for us to ever have a better encounter with our next host.
They are truly genuine people and gave us a marvelous experience. Anything we needed they were right there to help out. Within a couple of hours, we felt like old friends, enjoying a campfire with plenty of laughs and stories.
The acreage was out in the middle of the woods and came fully furnished with a bear, rabbits, birds, deer, and other wildlife. Our rig is 36 ft with 2 slides, and there was plenty of room. A fellow Boondocker was also a guest, and we very much enjoyed visiting with him.
The location was just what we were looking for. Close enough to the attractions we wanted to visit such as Gooseberry Waterfalls, Two Harbors, Split Rock Lighthouse, The Black Beach (which was amazing), several other waterfalls and beaches in the area, and of course Lake Superior. Yet it was just far enough away from civilization to give us the fresh air and brilliant stars the Minnesota Forest provides.
Our hosts
were kind enough to spend the day taking us sight seeing to Grand Marais and to a hidden gem Naniboujou Lodge. We would not have found this on our own. Then they took us up to Grand Portage to see an amazing waterfall and gulch on the Minnesota Canada border.
The next morning we were given a memorable ATV ride with awe inspiring views.
So, our first boondockerswelcome.com far exceeded our expectations. We have made life-long friends and look forward to our next encounter.
