We love to meet new people and connect with locals when we're traveling which is why this boondocker idea really resonates with us. We live in a lovely area and we know how hard it is to find a place to park here without being hassled. Most of the state parks here are booked very far in advance so it makes traveling without an itinerary very challenging. We've lived in Santa Cruz for about 40 years so we know the area well and would be happy to give advice if it is wanted. Our most enjoyable travels have included meeting locals and we look forward to being both a host and a user.
2005 Sprinter van outfitted by Westfalia. We often pull a small trailer with two kayaks. Combined we are 31' long but the trailer is very easy to disconnect so we have more flexibility about where we will fit. The van is 11' tall and 19' long.
We had a great time checking out Santa Cruz for a couple days. Doug and Donna were very welcoming and Doug was especially helpful getting us set up and backed in (and out). It is a tight spot, even with our 18-foot camper because you will be backing into their backyard/driveway at an angle.
When you book here, be sure to read ALL the emails from BW, since you'll get several in quick succession. It's best to park on Delilah BEHIND their house when you arrive.
The spot itself is very secure and you have access to full-hookups, they really have thought of everything. I was able to work from the backyard while our dog roamed and the wifi was strong enough to take a couple of work calls.
You're also about a 30 minute walk from downtown, and a short drive to the beach.
Thanks so much for hosting us!
We stayed at their home 2 nights. They were so lovely, they helped us with a problem we had with our rv and we had a great time at their house.
Thank you so much for everything, hope see you again.
This was our first boondockers experience and we loved it. Donna and Doug were very kind and helpful, thanks so much!
We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of a 7 week trip. The space was just big enough for our RV and our hosts were fantastic helping us back in. Doug and his wife are extremely friendly and we wish we could have spent more time with them. The space has all the hook ups you could need, including Wi-Fi and it made the end of our trip nice and relaxing. We will definitely stay again when we next make it back to the USA.
Doug and Donna were incredibly welcoming. We shared a couple meals while I was in Santa Cruz with our conversations lasting late into the evening. I expect I'll be keeping in touch with these two for sure!
Doug & Donna were amazing hosts for our very first Boondockers Welcome experience—they allowed us to stay with them the week of thanksgiving and even over the holiday which was so kind. They were quick to respond and so friendly. We all met for dinner on one of our nights on their lovely property, and we chatted for hours about our travels & stories of life on the road. We can’t wait to visit them again— they are great people with a true love for connecting with other travelers.
Doug was very kind and helpful. We felt safe and welcome. Thank you so much for your hospitality!
We were greeted by Doug and Donna at the front gate to help us settled in. It was such a pleasant experience! D&D have everything a boondocker could dream about. Their house is beautiful and very close to downtown. Our dogs enjoyed the stay just as much as we did - they ran around in the backyard as if they were back home. Thank you, Doug and Donna. We will definitely come to see you again next time we are in Santa Cruz area!
Doug and Donna were once again gracious and welcoming.
I had a very nice and comfortable stay at DDSC.
Donna and Dough have been very helpful and friendly. Theyr site, just big enough for my 25 feet camper-van, is full hook up, quiet, in a very nice neighborhood.
Thank you so much for having me.
I can't imagine my 1st Boondockers Welcome experience being any better! They were such kind hosts, and their place and neighborhood are so beautiful! We felt very safe, comfortable, and welcomed. They really do have all the amenities they list available, and they advised us on a cool local experience we loved.
D and D were both very kind and helpful. They helped us get our popup into place and told us about the area. The place is safe and cozy. They invited us to use their beautiful yard. Good location for seeing the town and surrounding areas. Thank you!!!!
Such generous hosts. Extremely friendly and kind couple. Perfect location, and I had a wonderful stay. I hope to be able to stay again!
We had a Nice stay at Doug and Donnas place :-) thanks a lot for having us :-)
Donna and Doug were wonderful hosts. We stayed for two nights hooked in to electricity and we had water and a dump station available to us. Their location is less than three miles from the wharf and the same distance to the downtown are. Donna gave us some great recommendations to go bird watching which allowed us to get our first view of some barn owls. We had a couple of very nice conversations which my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you so much for your hospitality!
The parking spot may be a tight squeeze. Doug and Donna will help arrange an arrival time to help you get backed in safely. Once parked you'll probably want to stay put for the duration of your stay. There is parking for your pull/tow vehicle on the street right outside their gate. They are generous to offer power, water, and sewer dump options right at their home!
It's an easy spin to ride bikes into town. Maybe about 20 minutes walk to downtown or would be a quick Uber ride if you wanted a faster and hassle-free ride. We had fun checking out some local beaches and the incredible disc golf course just down the road.
Doug and Donna are wonderful and friendly and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. It was fun to trade some travel stories and have a beer on the deck together. We highly recommend them as a safe and cozy spot to enjoy Santa Cruz.
Our stay with these hosts could not have been any better. They were (are) kind and personable and generous. Our visit started with their help squezzing our TT into a tight spot, which turned out to be a perfect fit. Great conversations were a highlight of our stay, and we HIGHLY recommend these hosts.
The home is in a beautiful quiet neighborhood, good for a stroll to admire flowered yards, and also close to everything fun in Santa Cruz. Doug and Donna are extremely kind to let people use the space in their yard. They were very kind to help me back up and park my trailer and I was able to park my car on the quiet street behind their house. They area seems very safe and the yard has a tall fence with a rolling gate so for the most part people passing by can't even see what you've got parked in there.
After more then 4 months traveling this year and visiting a lot of Boondockers we arrived at Dona and Doug. It was in our last week of our holiday, and Doug and Donna make the 3 days that we Where their to an extra holiday and a Very happy end of our Tour. We talked for hours with them and looks liked we are knew them for already many years. They are not hosts for us from now but best friends! We sure we will visit them at the end of this year again! Thanks a lot lovely friends for the special 3 days you give to us!! Love J&L
Donna was beyond kind. Very friendly and welcoming, I immediately felt at ease. She helped get me set up in her back driveway. Her house was beautiful and it is obvious they are a very conscientious couple.
I didn't meet Doug, as he was skydiving to celebrate his 70th birthday. How cool is that!
Doug and Donna are exceptional hosts! Their spot was prepared and ready when we arrived, and they were available to greet us and help us get settled right away. We shared great conversations about our travels and what to explore in the surrounding area. It was a treat staying with them!
We had a great stay at Doug and Donna's. They were very warm and welcoming and happy to give advice on what to see in Santa Cruz. We had a nice time chatting. The space was all that we needed and more :)
Wow! Doug and Donna were terrific. Power, water, and even a sewage drain. The location is cozy, in town, but quiet, and close to the ocean. None of the things their location offer matter as much as the two wonderful hosts. We had nice conversations and learned a lot from each other.
Thank you Doug and Donna for the special place in Santa Cruz.
