What a wonderful overnight and location! We'll be requesting stays at Radiuswoodguy anytime we are in the Portland area. We didn't get to meet CF but he really took great care of us. The location in a nice neighborhood and close to a great selection of restaurants and food carts. We had dinner at a yummy little Thai restaurant and this morning walked the area again having coffee and pastries. There is a lot of foot traffic into the evening BUT very respectful and quiet! AND there is a designated Pee Mail area for doggy guests. :-)
Radiuswoodguy is super awesome easy to talk to and very accommodating. I definitely recommend staying with him this was my first experience with boondockers welcome and it was a good one
This is a rare spot in one of my favorite areas of town. It's a funky, fun area with some of Portland's most loved restaurants and food carts on Alberta and Mississippi streets. Lots of young people walking around even at night, and it feels very safe. It's a mixed residential and light commercial area that developers compete for. Think Soho or Boulder way before trust fund hippies took over.
Though of course we're self contained, the kind and generous host offered use of the shop's toilet and shower, plus an extension cord and water, all appreciated. If you're lucky to arrive when he's here, you might be able to tour his incredible wood shop. Words don't do it justice because it's a world class level of the craft that most of us never get to experience.
The space itself is roomy and nearly level. We didn't bother to use our levelers and the host offered wood (lol, lots of wood here) if we needed it. Right now there's construction of a new building across the street bringing some weekday noise, but we weren't bothered. Weekends and nights are quiet, considering you're in a big city.
The host has a small, friendly dog with a dignified, manly name but our 3 year old immediately (and aptly) named him Snowball. Our host was happy to let them chase each other all over his shop. Our little one slept very soundly that night.
A wonderful stay so conveniently located in Portland. The host was so generous, offering water, electricity, sewage, a hot shower, bathrooms, coffee, and great conversation. We appreciate the hospitality!
Had a great stay here. Super friendly host and super sweet pup. It was a quiet place to sleep, especially for being in such a central location.
Host was very generous. Electricity and sewer dump were convenient. They were also very quick to respond to our inquiries. Road noise wound down late. Nice walk to shops and food trucks. I would definitely stay here again.
Host had excellent communication and was very generous with offering all hookup options. The dump was a bit of a challenge, by building in the corner, which is uphill from where a vehicle can park, but we made it work and were so happy for the convenient location! Location felt safe, and was quiet.
Radiuswoodguy not only provided a free, safe place to stay in the heart of a very expensive city but imparted knowledge and a little history to boot. Highly recommend staying here and having a chat with Radiuswoodguy.
Super friendly host, made sure we had everything we needed. Awesome location for exploring Portland, walking distance to shops and restaurants (and coffee!) in Alberta neighborhood and easy bus ride to downtown. Go get ice cream at Salt & Straw!
Unfortunately we didn’t get to meet French in person but he made sure that everything was perfect! Couldn’t imagine a better place to stay so close to the center of Portland. This was our first time using Boondockers Welcome, and it was a great experience! Very cool and safe neighborhood . Greetings from Belgium and thank you so much!
Welcoming and warm host in a great walkable location. And the cutest dog ever! We have an 18’ teardrop and we just squeaked into the spot. Anything longer would block the sidewalk.
What a perfect gem to find in the city! Close to everything and a great neighborhood to walk around. French even has time to give us a super special tour around his shop. He and Jaffy are extremely talented. Thanks again for hosting, we loved it!
Two night stay was booked. We were surprised to find the previous boondockers hadn't left and had gone somewhere in their car, which left us scratching our heads as the area is not easy to park a rig in.
Our host had been in contact with us to let us know what was going on, and was ready to leave the coast on his long weekend to take care of us!
However our host's friend/neighbour graciously invited us to use his parking area for the night as they didn't leave.
The following day we moved and settled into our assigned spot.
We left Portland having met two wonderful people and their little dogs and a feeling of being well cared for!!
Many Thanks to both of them!!
French was really an exceptional host. Like other reviewers said, he welcomes RV travelers and full-timers with open arms. The parking spot is nice and quiet and you are literally 5 min-walk away from North Mississippi, a street with plenty of coffee shops, restaurants and breweries. Highly recommended!
We had a great stay with a friendly host and his sidekick :) thank you
These guys are great! We were able to walk around the Mississippi area from the parking spot and catch a great show at Mississippi Studios and simply walk back at the end of the night to sleep. I spent a lot of time seeing the inside of their amazing woodshop and making compressed logs with French for our woodstove. There's some noise on the street through the night but nothing too bothersome. We had a great time hanging out and exploring the area. Hoping we can get back to see them all soon!
We wanted to stash our trailer somewhere safe while riding our bikes around and this was perfect. Radius Wood Guy was super friendly and the location was perfect. We’d love to come back. Thanks!!!!
The hosts were very friendly and interesting to talk to. The location was a short walk to Mississippi Street restaurants, bars and shops. It was very easy/convenient to get on the highway. The hot shower was nice to have. The street noise died down about 10:30 and we had no trouble sleeping. We would enjoy staying here again.
Wonderful location! Hosts are generous, friendly, flexible, and offer engaging conversation! Please take care of these wonderful hosts and their property and be respectful if you stay here!
Great place to stay when visiting Portland! French and James are great hosts. James told us about an awesome blues bar, we enjoyed the music and food. Within walking distance of the Mississippi district and a short drive to anywhere in Portland. If you get a chance go to Council Crest Park, wonderful views of Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams and the city. Would definitely stay here again!
French was an absolute pleasure of a host. He was so helpful and inviting. He helped me run and install a 12v and usb socket in my motorhome. Shower was a great add on. Would stay here again in a heart beat
We love staying here because 1) the host is kind and generous , 2) it’s close to the Mississippi district with lots of fun and amazing food, and 3) transit options to downtown or out to other enticing neighborhoods are plentiful.
Great stay...helped enormously with my propane issue. Lots of great conbersation
Cutest dog in the world (next to my rusty)
I'm not even sure how to start..🙄. The location was perfect close to everything that I wanted to do including tons of Oregon food trucks. French, was an amazing host. I kept popping in and out of a shop sometimes for 5 minutes and then sometimes for over an hour just to have conversations with him. Unlimited hot water in the shower he provided. And a super cute, friendly little dog. Thank you French for everything from your company to your insight into rving. There is no doubt I will be back!
French and James we're great! I was fascinated by their workshop and the stories the had to share. The shop is in a really fantastic part of town with a lot going on. They let me use the shower and sent me away with some wood burning bricks made with a hydrolic press from their sawdust, and French said he wouldn't take any compensation. I definitely recommend this place!
French is a friendly and talented host. He gave me a tour of his woodworking shop, and showed me prior projects. The parking area at his shop is very close to the part of Portland where I wanted to be.
I'm so grateful to French and James for all their help and hospitality. And also to Morgan, the dog, for all the smiles he gave me. I was just beginning my nomad journey when I stayed here. While there, I discovered a water leak. French helped me through it. He assisted with finding the leak and explained how to fix it. He researched the right parts and let me use his tools. Even went to the hardware store for me. James was a huge help in getting it all put back together. I had recently bought the rig and wasn't yet familiar with it. By the time I left, everything was working and I was well-prepared for my journey. This was a wonderful, relaxing place to stay while I did all the things I needed to do. And who can complain about a shower in the shop with 80 gallons of hot water?! Thanks so much for everything guys! I hope our paths cross again soon.
Thanks so much to French and James! We had a wonderful stay :)
We could highly recommend this host and wish all the best!
French is a very accommodating, welcoming and friendly host, along with his shop dog. His shop was centrally located while visiting friends and the Mississippi District. Just south of his location is a very vibrant area of shops, pubs and restaurants. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
French and his colleagues at the wood shop were incredibly generous and hospitable! Such an amazing spot in a very cool Portland neighborhood!
The guys were really welcoming and their shop was great. We would definitely stay again and recommend to others!
Host was so so generous. We had a great stay and enjoyed inner Portland.
Wonderful spot! Secure bike storage! Nice neighborhood and very quiet overnight. Walkable, bikable area with bus stop almost at door.
Thanks for letting me hang out fir 2 nights.
We stayed at this location again while in the area as our other plans didn't work out and we enjoyed ourselves so much we came back :) Thank you!!
This spot is in a great location - walking distance to all kinds of restaurants and shops! Close to public transit too. Parking is tight - we parked on an angle and we are 19' plus bike rack. Host is very easy going and accommodating - they want to ensure you enjoy yourself while visiting the area and strive to offer as many amenities as possible. Very cool shop and enjoyed the tour of their craft. Thanks so much!
We couldn't have asked for a better experience at Radiuswoodguy's place. French is a generous hearted human being and meeting both him and James, was a complete pleasure. They are both helpful, friendly, and caring individuals. The location is fabulous! Thank you French!
We couldn’t have asked for a better experience or location. French is a generous hearted guy who obviously cares about people without making a show of it. Down to earth and friendly, he and James, were a pleasure to meet and interact with. His shop is incredible! Thank you French, it was a gift to meet you.!
We requested to stay and got confirmation within minutes!
The spot is outside a shop on a quiet street right in the middle of the wonderful Mississippi Ave district. within walking distance of tons of bars, restaurants and shopping. We requested 2 days and we were kindly let stay another night. We spent the days exploring downtown Portland and had a wonderful time. Our host gave us great information, and was a pleasure to stay with.
We would not hesitate to recommend this host and would love to stay again! Thanks again!
French and James were great to work with. I mainly interacted with James and he was incredibly warm and welcoming. The wifi and shower was also definitely a most welcome amenity on my trip. They're located right near a bunch of great restaurants too so being able to walk was super convenient. It's a little noisy at night since it's off a main road, but definitely will stay here again when I'm in Portland!
As soon as we pulled in we were welcomed with open arms. The host is awesome. Bonus: offered the use of his shower in how wood shop! Most welcome development after a long day of travel. We stayed two nights, had electric, water and a dump station available to us. We he host allowed us to keep our bikes in his shop too which was nice as the y would have been sticking out into the sidewalk and it was extra prevention against theft. If you’re heading to Oregon and want to check out Portland this is a most awesome place to stay. Thank you!!!!!
We had a wonderful stay and he couldn’t have been more accommodating and helpful. Really fun neighborhood. We’ll be back for sure and hope to return the favor when you’re next in our neighborhood.
I was not able to attend his invitation a few weeks ago, but do look forward to next time! Thanks!
We enjoyed staying at Radius Wood Guy. He was very helpful and welcoming.
Neighborhood is great! Very safe and full of life. Do bring earplugs. You are parked near a busy street.
Lots of fun to be in Portland.
Nice little spot in mississipi district near bars and coffee shops. Had a very warm welcome and felt at home quickly! Be sure to be 20feet or less though! <emoji> will go back anytime we are in the surroundings.
These guys know whats up- lovely place to crash when visiting Portland. We will certainly be back!
I was going to stay there and received a warm e-welcome, but my impression was that it's just a sloped, small parking space next to the street in a sort of undesirable area.
