We discovered the boondocking life eight years ago when spending our first winter in a fifth wheel exploring the SW United States. Since then, we've spent five winters in the south and have also hauled our current trailer to various destinations in Western Canada. We travel in the winter and spend the spring/summer/fall seasons on our small farm on the Alberta prairie riding horses, growing hay, and enjoying the many birds that have made our property their home. Our children all have four legs — one dog, three horses, and two cats. We enjoy music, particularly folk, bluegrass, country, and blues, and play and sing a little ourselves.
We travel with one medium-sized dog (plus one in our hearts) and have three horses and two barn cats at home.

We have a 2007 29.5' Hitchhiker fifth wheel trailer with two slides on one side and one on the other. Our tow vehicle is a 2014 Dodge Ram. We sometimes tow a 16' trailer with a Yamaha UTV behind the fifth wheel. Despite our double trailer rig, we do not require a pull-through spot as the UTV trailer can be easily disconnected and moved around as needed.
These hosts were amazing, Our plans changed a few times and they were always quick to respond and accommodating of our unsure arrival date. I was met upon arrival and given access to 30amp power. which was a hugely needed break for my generator after a week of winter boondocking between the badlands, yellowstone, and glacier.
the last couple of miles to the house is unpaved but surprisingly well maintained even in winter. we have a 2 wheel drive half ton and had no issues getting our trailer there.
We did not get to interact with our hosts as much as we would have liked but the interaction we did have was always positive. we would definitely request this spot again if in the calgary area
We were so honored to get to stay with the "Northern Hitchhikers". They were very accommodating and incredibly kind. We were greeted with a smile and given access to power. Their property is beautiful and very peaceful. We enjoyed getting to see horses, while also being so close to the city. The drive to Calgary is only about 15-20 minutes. Thank you for an amazing stay!
Welcoming people in a beautuful ranch. Good stay to visit Calgary. We recommend it.
Our host was welcoming, kind, and answered our questions. We spent 2 nights and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings. So nice to have the electrical hook up! It was a positive experience and we would be happy to stay again.
This was my first visit using Boondockers Welcome. The bar is now set very high! Lovely people in an awesome, quiet location.
Northern Hitchhikers are kind and friendly. Thanks for giving us a lovely place to stay. We would definitely come back!
We stayed a night in Almosta ranch, a lovely spot with fresh air and open sky. Lovely couple in lovely spot.
Good grassy spot with 30 amp hookup. Plenty of room. Nice scenery. It is about a 6 mile trek down a good gravel road. I had to use their gps coordinates as my Garmin wouldn’t deal with the address.
Our stay was awesome, it is a nice and quiet place. Theresa and Nillund are very friendly and helpful people. We recommend this place when you want to visit Calgary. We liked the horses in front of our campervan.
Beaucoup apprécier , très amicale, très belle endroit, tranquille , nos höte très accueillant je vous le conseil. Merci
The Northern Hitchhikers were very hospitable and friendly. They let us meet their horses and they shared their experience with the area even giving us some coupons for the local attractions out of the couple of choices we were considering. The spot was very level and easy to get into. We would definitely stay here again if we are passing through the area.
We spent 2 nights here in prairie and took a day trip to Banff. We were their first boondockers an d they made things very easy for us. Directions were precise and they were very deligient with communications. Really enjoyed our time here and the conversation with our hosts.
We would love to connect again in the future
