Have you stayed at this host location?
Leave a reference for this hostSmokinSoleResort is a five acre camp in the woods one mile from Eagle River, Michigan and the shore of Lake Superior, on the beautiful Keweenaw peninsula, at the tip top of the Michigan U.P.
The camp is only about a block's distance from the highway and a mile from the nearest small town, but it is still a little isolated. It should also be noted that, although we have had no problem with unwelcome wildlife, the Keweenaw peninsula is in black bear country and there are both bears and wolves in the general area. Other wildlife (wild turkeys, deer, coyotes, raccoon, opossum, squirrels, partridge, woodpeckers, and a host of other birds and wildlife) is abundant!
We do not allow dogs off leash because of the wildlife and also because we have two small dogs of our own that are a little excitable about strange dogs (very friendly, just noisy).
No campfires other than in the fire ring at the main cabin (unless it's too dry or windy).
No dumping, not even grey water. Grey water attracts insects and bears. We have plenty of insects and we'd prefer not to actively attract the bears!
Narrow road with sharp turn into property from the blacktop. Hard packed rock. Not perfectly smooth but only a short distance from the blacktop. We pull in a 30+ foot fifth wheel, but you need to be an experienced camper/RV driver to make the turn from the blacktop.
Anywhere in the area
We have spots available for one camper 22' or less, and two campers up to 35'.
However, due to the sharpness of the turn into the property and a drop-off on each side (culvert under the road) , only fifth wheels can be accommodated at the maximum size. Pull behind campers and RVs up to 26-28 feet should be fine. We also recommend no Toads unless you can unhook them and drive them in separately from your rig.
Something for everyone!

More... So much more.
Host was waiting for us and assisted me leveling the camper. Weather and conditions were perfect. Enjoyed safe distance visiting which was nice to get to know them. This is a safe and quiet place to stay with great sightseeing to be had. Thanks SmokinSole Resort. Would love a return visit.
This was a beautiful little private spot in the UP. Quiet, park-like setting. Plenty of space and easy access from main road.
Beautiful place, quiet, close to all the Keweenaw has to offer! We arrived late and did not get to meet them personally but through social media they made us feel well informed and welcome. Would highly recommend a stay at their place!!
It was easy to find spot and very beautiful with flowers and tasteful yard decor such as wagon wheels. They were very friendly and welcoming, and offered to assist in identifying places to visit. Unfortunately we had to cut a short trip and only could stay one night but hope to come back again this fall. This is beautiful region of the UP.
We stayed 4 nights on their beautiful and quiet “Campground “
We enjoyed the trees and their beautiful lilies
We felt very welcome and free at their “ campground “ so we could enjoyed the rest we needed
Because we couldn’t go to the famous bakery in Eagle River by ourselves, they surprised us with delicious pastries
Thank you very much

We had an amazing time at the Smokin Sole Resort. They were gracious hosts that offered suggestions on what to see in the area. Sadly we didn't really have time to visit with our hosts but left feeling as if we made friends. Look forward to coming back for another visit.
Our hosts warmly welcomed us as guests on their 6 acres of paradise. We found the designated parking area and setup quickly. Our hosts went out of their way to make a fellow veteran feel at home. I had a peaceful night and rested well. We would stay here again.
Absolutely beautiful and peaceful place on the Keweenaw peninsula, right off M-26. Plenty of space for multiple rigs, gracious hosts and we couldn’t have asked for a better first BW experience. We hope to see The Smokin Soles again!
Wonderful place with plenty of room. Can not see the road from camping area. Very peaceful. Lots of flowers and a few wild animals. The hosts are very thoughtful and friendly. They shared several ideas for places to see. Wonderful place to walk my dog on old logging roads. I would like to come back again.
A peaceful place with beautiful flowers everywhere! We had a great stay, and the hosts were so kind. They even ran my husband into town for an air compressor part and shared a campfire with us, so they went above and beyond!
Made our last days by Lake Superior very enjoyable.
Smokin sole is one of the most peaceful places we have stayed. The spot is excellent for anything up to maybe 32 feet or so. Mr and Mrs “ sole” were great hosts and quality people.
While there, certainly venture in to eagle river. Great hand dipped ice cream at the little store. Go down along the waterfront and you”ll see Fitzgeralds restaurant. Get reservations, you”ll need them. Have the pork belly.....we had it twice.....its that good.
I had the best time ever staying with some amazingly wonderful hosts that were friendly, kind and very hospitable. I enjoyed visiting with them and being able to go and see and do things around the area. They come highly recommended from me and will definitely come see them again while in the area if they are there. Thank you so much for allowing me and my dog to stay with you and be able to see a lot of the natural beauty in your neck of the woods. It was well worth it to take the time to drive up to the UP. I wish I could have stayed longer. It was nice to have a place to relax and unwind for a few days.
Glen and Katie(GSD).
Lovely quiet spot in the bush. Another be rver was also staying. The latitude and longitude took us right to their secluded laneway.
We had a wonderful time, This couple were the perfect hosts, their property is beautiful and they are very down to earth. It was our first time boondocking and if everyone is as warm and welcoming as this couple it will not be our last. Thank you again for sharing with us.
Joyce and Gary go out of their way to make you feel at home. They’re little cabin and set up is lovely and we so enjoyed all the fellowship and laughter around food and fire!
Joyce and Gary have a little slice of heaven in Eagle River and enhance it even more by going above and beyond with food and fellowship! We can’t imagine our visit to the Keweenaw Peninsula without them now!
Boon Dockers experience AND it was most excellent. She, the hostess with the mostest and he the host with the most. An evening sitting outside with great company and great food. We got lots of local tips from restaurants to near by attractions. All leading to fun. A definite "10."
So the hostess should be her own little visitor center. Oh wait, she is! They had lists of hikes, swimming beaches, and a wealth of historical info. Never mind that this spot is soooo pretty and the whole area is breathtaking. I wish I could have stayed a week! Well worth the extra miles to get out on the peninsula and into Lake Superior's heart and sole! I dropped the 5th and went off on day trips. The couple could not have been more friendly, hospitable and generous! I sooo hope they will come stay with me in NY.
Molly
ps They welcomed my old black lab too!
They were not around much when we were there, but when we saw them they had good recommendations for sight seeing. We stayed 2 nights, and enjoyed driving around the peninsula.
Hi - thanks again for providing one night stay. It was a pleasure meeting you both and it was truly a peaceful stay.
Paul and I spent a night at the SmokinSoleResort and could not have been more pleased or surprised with our stay. First, Joyce knocked herself out prior to our visit providing travel tips about the UP area. We followed her advice and enjoyed attractions and features we may not have otherwise discovered. She and Gary were warm, hospitable, and eager to share with us one of the UP's traditions - pasties! Sitting around a campfire in their private camp was super. Hard to beat their hospitality. They're down-to-earth generous and fun people and we are so glad to have spent time with them.
