Salmon spawning creek, picnic area with firepit available. 30 minutes from downtown, but near hiking and beaches.
The salmon can be really stinky in August and September, but that's the price of living in this gorgeous place.
Clean up after yourself!
Short 10' wide bridge, very sturdy, but no guardrails.
Driveway is narrow with overhanging trees; if your rig is big you might need to swing into the opposite lane on the highway to get in (but there's not much traffic)
There's room in our driveway/parking area off the street to unhitch pretty much anything.
Right now we are planning to be around, might take some short trips, but mostly we'll be here!
Please arrive before 8 pm if possible (We understand the ferry schedule doesn't always cooperate and that's OK too)
Mendenhall Glacier
Shrine of St. Therese
Jensen-Olsen Arboretum
We can give you directions to hiking trails and beaches, or whatever you want to see!
We stayed two nights in late May. This family invited us to their campfire each night and we enjoyed getting to know them and their area of Alaska. Highly recommend this family as hosts!
Coming from Germany and in Alaska for the first time we were very interested in meeting 'real' Alaskans. If this family is typical, Alaska is a truly lucky state.Friendly,open-minded,generous and so good to talk to. The site is really nice, not too far from the city (although, what is?) and with beautiful scenery all around! We are VERY lucky to have stayed here!
