Have you stayed at this host location?
Leave a reference for this hostWe have 40 acres in the upper Yampa River valley with panoramic views and clean mountain air and water. No shade to speak of, but at this elevation it's never terribly hot or humid.
BBQ and fire ring use are dictated by fire danger, and may or may not be allowed according to conditions.
We have excellent deep-well water to fill tanks.
Limited generator use may be allowed depending on size / noise and exact parking location. We have a very scenic remote area where generators would almost certainly be allowed.
Children of all ages are always welcome.
Dogs are always welcome, especially those who remind their humans to help out with tootsie roll patrol.
Access is via 2 miles of good gravel road. To get to the higher sites with even better views, road is dirt and slightly rough but doable in most cars.
Plenty of room to unhitch and tour with tow vehicle
We're home a lot (it's a nice place to be) especially in the summer, but we're planning some trips so check our calendar or contact us for availability..
Steamboat Springs is the county seat, 35 miles away. The Flattops Wilderness is out your window, and the Colorado River is 20 miles away.
The town of Yampa has local color and history, and an excellent restaurant--The Antlers Café and Bar, in season.
What an awesome location and wonderful hosts! Could not possibly have been treated any better. "Grandpa" loved it and so did we. We had a great time exploring the area, especially the Ute Indian site located in close proximity. Would love to host Trowland and would greatly enjoy coming back in the future when haze from the forest fires is no longer an issue. Highly recommend! Thank you for allowing us to stay and good luck on the new green house project.
We had a great 2 night stay with the hosts. They were welcoming, and as a bonus- very nice to talk to. We stayed on the upper part of the property and would recommend it to other Boondockers. The local Antlers Cafe & Bar was tasty, and hiking in Routt Forest was beautiful!
Stayed at the remote primitive spot and it was amazing. The views are breathtaking and worth the trip up the bumpy road. Trowland is a great tour guide if you are lucky enough to catch him when he has time. I look forward to returning in the future.
I don't know how one could find a nicer place to stay or better people to spend time with. It was wonderful. Dear Hosts, thank you from my heart.
This was an absolutely beautiful location. And the hosts were amazing, gracious, informative and entertaining! Loved the time together, and getting to know their three beautiful dogs! Thanks for a great stay. Look forward to seeing you again sometime.
I can’t say enough positive things... this is the best spot I’ve ever had the pleasure of Boondocking and the hosts were exceptionally kind. Thank you SO much for showing us your gardens and greenhouse❤️
Stayed two nights on the hill above the hosts’ home. Most guests choose to stay near the house, but our rig could handle the slightly rough road to this vantage point. We were amply rewarded with outstanding views and gorgeous sunsets. Very hospitable hosts, and we hope to visit again.
These hosts love their beautiful place and their lives and are anxious to share with wanderers. The view of the flattops is truly stunning as Tim identifies the many bird sounds and Dana fondly recalls the antics of various birds, wildlife and their dogs. Tim met me as I came in, suggested parking spots and let me make the decision. We all hiked up the road to the top of the hill to enjoy the views as they shared stories of their adventure building and living remotely. An amazing couple in an amazing place.
Our hosts were instantly responsive and delightful. We really appreciated them allowing us to stay on their stunning property in our RV coach as we made a run for NC to see our doctors during COVID-19. So glad we could remain quarantined! The view from our coach was breathtaking and David enjoyed a stretch-your-traveling-legs hike in the wide open spaces of their property. We hope to connect with them on the slopes next year! Thanks, guys!
We had such a nice time at this location! The hosts were so welcoming and showed us a great place at the top of their property with the most amazing views! And it was so quiet. They are a really neat couple - wish we could have spent more time chatting with them but we'll be back!
We were so sad we couldn’t stay more than one night! The hosts were so welcoming! I especially enjoyed their new puppy dogs! Wonderful stay!
Wow. Where do I even start. Being this was my official launch into the nomadic world of lifestyle living and also my first stay with a BoondockersWelcome.com host, I could not have asked for a better experience. Tim and Dana are so warm, friendly and welcoming and went out of their way to included me in so many of their daily activities including awesome hikes on their vast and beautiful property, an open mike night at the local bar with Tim's incredible guitar playing and humorous song selection, and many wonderful and enriching conversations. And to top it off, a constant comical entertainment from their super smart dog Woody and puppies Bessie, Jasper & Roscoe — my own one year old pup Lily played and ran freely and endlessly like never before!
I would encourage anyone to make the trip to their place even if you just make it a destination. You'll come away feeling like you made friends for life. I will definitely be back!
John & Lily. :)
What a beautiful view we had. Great conversation and a wonderful visit with our hosts three new puppies. We did not have time to hike and explore the valley but will the next time we are in the area.
The Trowlands are perfect hosts and the countryside is beautiful!
They helped us level our camper and invited us to watch hummingbirds on their front porch, and the sunset over the hills! They were very accommodating but beyond that warm, funny and interesting! And they enjoyed having our kids around, you could tell. :-) We loved our stay with them and would be easily enticed for a return visit!
Thank you so much for everything! We enjoyed our stay and visiting with you!
Tori, Betsy, Willa, and Sudi
Tim and Dana are fantastic hosts! Their property is beautiful with stunning views, and more hummingbirds than you could imagine. Tim was a huge help with a small leak in our hot water heater, and answered all my questions about backpacking. Dana took my wife and our daughter on a hike to search for wild mushrooms, they had a blast! The night before we left, we all went out for a great diner at the local Antlers restaurant. We will definitely be back to visit Tim and Dana and the beautiful area!
You can bet I’ll be back and make a point to visit this place again! Very friendly and helpful hosts. A-1!
Beautiful, quiet spot with gracious hosts! The drive there is spectacular at this time of year.
This host was so hospitable. I was unsure about my plans. He was very patient, accommodating and understanding. I wish I would have had a chance to make the stay work. I will just say "WOW! What a view."
High recommendation for these hosts! We had a so great time staying with them. They made us living in an american family and discover their way of life.... They took us discover their beautiful area... We had a wonderful evening around the fire, we wont forget it... Thanks so much!
