Have you stayed at this host location?
Leave a reference for this hostI have a small solar-powered house on 3 acres, with views of the towering Sangre de Cristo mountains directly east, the San Juans 40 miles to the west, and Great Sand Dunes National Park , 26 miles to the south. The area is wide open, yet very private, at an elevation of 7800 feet.
Note that the dunes, while visible from my place, are an hour plus drive. And due to construction on Hwy 17 (thru summer 2021), times could be 90 minutes or more.
When it's crazy hot and humid all over the country, it's 80 degrees here in the San Luis Valley. And of course, it's always dry, and always chilly at night. There's a large enclosed deck that you are welcome to use if it gets windy.
In addition to the mountains and sand dunes, there are several hot springs within an hour's drive north and south. There are many religious centers here, as well as spiritual healers and yoga types. There are miles of mostly car-free dirt roads to ride or stroll about with your dogs.
Google Crestone before planning a trip here. Town is 7 miles from my house.
4G at my place is generally OK for e-mail. WiFi is available on the deck.
The long flat San Luis valley sits at about 7600 feet elevation but is surrounded by mountains on both sides. There is 1.5 miles of flat graded dirt road leading to my house. Aside from some occasional washboard conditions, it's great.
Plenty of room for vehicle parking but, turning around is not easy. And backing down the long driveway is not fun with a trailer.

Had a great experience! Scott was super welcoming and friendly. Even fed me dinner the first night and gave me a jar of homemade spaghetti sauce to take on the road. Great location and loved learning about the Baca community. Stars gorgeous at night and heard coyotes at sundown.
US photography was a great host and we really enjoyed our stay. Crestone is a small town and there isn’t a whole lot to do, but if you’re looking to get away from the crowds and enjoy beautiful views, then this is definitely the place for you. Thanks for everything!
Scott could not have been nicer, more helpful and friendly host. Plus the location of his place is just stunning. I would recommend to anyone to go for a visit.
Scott met us on arrival ... had no issues getting our 22' Class C to the location. We took on some fresh water for the visit on arrival. Good conversations and knowledge of the area. Great night skies ... were able to see the Neowise comet. Very quiet & dark ... no noise or light pollution. Cut our visit from 2 to 1 night because of the distance from the Great Sand Dunes ... although you can see them from Scott's place, it was over an hour's drive to the dunes - no direct path.
If you are looking for a nice, dark, quiet, & remote spot with some water & good conversation, this is a great place.
