We have a 13 acre property at the edge of a small village on the south shore of Rice Lake, about 15 minutes north of Highway 401 at Cobourg. The boondocking spaces we offer are treed and private, located between our pond and the road. A gravel driveway leads off the paved road, through a lawn area with the boondocking spots on either side, and continues another 300 feet up to our house. There is an electrical outlet near the boondock area that can be used for light electrical loads (no A/C units or electrical heaters as the 15 amp circuit is at the end of a long run from the house and will not support a large electrical load). Parking on the lawn is weather dependent, too much rain and the ground softens, in which case we situate you partway onto the gravel driveway. Provided weather and site conditions allow it, we are amenable to longer stays for travelers with units under 30ft since this will let you tuck away more discretely for your enjoyment and ours. A final determination of course would be made on receiving and reviewing your specific RV footprint.
In this ongoing time of Covid, and provided provincial guidelines and our own circumstances permit, we welcome guests to stay overnight or for a few days since we have the space to provide you and us with a maximum of safe distance and privacy. Of course, acceptance of a stay request, especially a longer one, will be dependent on our availability and what we have happening at home at that particular time. We appreciate your understanding.
We rigorously follow Covid protocols and would ask all guests to do the same. Sadly, visiting and interacting with guests may be more limited as a result.
Please clean up after your pets, and after your cigarettes if you are a smoker.
Do enjoy the grass area and being pondside, use your lawn chairs and small tables to relax in the shade.
The county road to our property is a paved road, you then turn onto our gravel driveway. You will have to back your RV into our driveway and then onto the grass on either side of the gravel. We prefer that you park your unit on the east side of the driveway (ground is firmer on the east side) especially after rainy weather as the grassy ground can be soft, please discuss with us where to place your RV before parking it. When the grass area is too soft, you can place your RV along one side of the driveway to avoid the soft grass. The RV boondocking site is beside our gravel driveway just off the paved road, note that our house is located a further 300' up the driveway and there is a vehicle height restriction of 10'-6" through the covered bridge.
There is plenty of room beside the driveway for your tow vehicle.
Generally we are home and boondocking is available all thru the warmer months of the year. Once the snow is on the ground, the "overnight parking" spots become snowbanks on either side of the driveway and the parking is not usually available. We welcome guests to contact us at any time to see if we can accommodate you.

We absolutely enjoyed our 2 night stay at Pondside By the Willows. Our hosts were wonderful people. Very friendly and knowledgeable and accommodating. We enjoyed our chats with them. They have a beautiful property that even has an authentic covered bridge over the beautiful pond. The campsite is large and well kept with large, graceful willows. We would definitely return when in the area.
This was our first boondock and the hosts have set the bar high for all other stays. They met us and helped with our set up. We loved the area and thoroughly enjoyed driving to Ottawa off the normal highway path.
The spot was calm and relaxing. My host was really helpful and nice to talk to about his previous RV's and the one I own.. I enjoyed very much my sleep there too bad it was raining the next day or I would have stayed another day as my host invited me to stay for a second night.. Next time maybe!
Although we arrived around supper time, Terry was there to greet us and helped us get selltled in. He ensured our RV was level and and helped us with questions we had , as we are still new to rving.
The next morning, we had a nice chat and shared a few stories.
We had a great visit.
Great welcome in an amazing setting by a lovely pond. ViewRider are amazing host and we had great discussions. Thank you and we hope to see you again soon.
Nice and quiet spot. Short and pleasant stay. Thanks Maya for everything et pour les quelques mots en français :-)
Beautiful country estate with pond and covered bridge. Very friendly hosts, we could have chatted with them all day. Very easy to turn around with our 27 foot trailer. We received many recommendations for future trip ideas. The area is beautiful and one could spend many days exploring. The RV parking site is prior to their covered bridge so no need to cross the bridge with your rig. Thanks very much for the great hosting! Hope to see you again sometime.
We staid with ViewRider for one night. Despite us having to change plans multiple times, which they graciously accommodated, the welcome could not have been warmer, the location could not have been more beautiful and the vegetables from their garden could not have been tastier.
Our three rambunctious boys were even allowed to fish in their ponds and hunt for carving sticks.
We had a fantastic stay and really hope to see our hosts again in the future.
Thank you so much to ViewRider for the extremely generous hospitality!!!
Veggies from the garden! And some mechanical help was so appreciated!!!
The area by the covered bridge was lovely and very comfortable!!
Definitely would return again when next in the area!!!
Wonderful boondocking experience. So much better than staying at a campground. We were welcomed as if we were old friends. Spent a very restful night there.
Our hosts were most gracious. They were full of local area knowledge and eager to share. They also gave us great ideas on how to travel with cats and how boondocking works.
The site was great. It looked across the road at the lake. And on the other side was a lovely covered bridge across their pond.
My daughter and I were looking for a "getaway" weekend spot and we stumbled across "Pondside by the Willows." What a find? From the location to the hosts, it was a 5-star experience. There is excellent "easy" hiking at Beagle Club Trailhead/Northumberland Forest. The boating/canoeing/kayaking/fishing opportunities on Rice lake are plentiful. Words will fail me to describe the graciousness of the hosts. Their warm welcome and generosity will not be forgotten. My daughter joins me in expressing our sincere gratitude.
The hosts of Pondside by the Willows were very warm and welcoming and also very knowledgeable! They gave us suggestions of what to visit in the area and also gave us tips on RVs and boondocking which we are very grateful for! The property was beautiful and our site overlooked the lake - just breathtaking to wake up to! I wouldn't hesitate recommending this site to anyone!
They have a beautiful property, so much nature !
Very calming and peaceful.
Terry and his wife are kind and friendly.
I very enjoyed talking with them. They are great people.
I recommend :)
We spent the last night of our trip at there place. They have a very pretty property, perfect for our kids to strech!
We were warmly welcomed, thanks a lot!
Want to thank the hosts for a quiet and peaceful location plus the use of electrical was great. Look forward to hosting in return. Thanks again.
Thank you for hosting us at your wonderful location. The covered bridge was such a treat. Thanks also for informative and enjoyable conversation. Hope to return some time. Blaine and Brenda
What a pretty location...so peaceful. Had a nice chat with our hosts before spending a peaceful night by the covered bridge! Would definitely stay again! Thanks IronwoodTerry!
Our second rime we ever used Boondockers Welcome and it was an awesome experience. A beautiful setting and amazing hosts, we highly recommend these hosts for a visit or as guests. A beautiful lake, a covered bridge, peaceful pond. Artesian well water in the village of Harwood.
This was our first time out with the MH and as boondockers. Terry and his wife made us feel very welcome, on a truly beautiful property. I would recommend them whole hartedly.
Such a peaceful and beautiful place to stay for our one night boondocking. The hosts was nice and charming :)
We stayed one night on Terry's property near the beautiful covered bridge. He visited us for awhile in our RV and we swapped travel stories.
Terry and his dear wife are great hosts with a nice location for a relaxing place to be for anyone that is passing through or doing some fishing. It was also wonderful to get in a game of golf on my trip with Terry.
That made the detour well worthwhile. I highly recommend them a very good B/D host.
