Description

James' Place is edged by woods on one side, views of Puget Sound and the Cascade mountains on another, and only two miles from downtown Oak Harbor. Enjoy the sunrise, a resident eagle pair, owls, hummingbirds and loads of blackberries when in season.

Our house is about 25 feet away from the spot, but we're rather quiet and don't leave any bright lights on at night. We're typically working in the garden, bicycle riding or walking with the dogs. It's a quiet spot for the most part. Note that when the Navy jets are practicing, we can hear them (they practice on sporadic weekdays, they don't practice on weekends).

There is a 15A outlet approximately 25' from the parking pad for electricity hookup.

House Rules

Please be respectful of our property, neighbors and wildlife at all times. Please pack out your trash/waste, clean up pet poop, limit evening and nighttime noise and light pollution.
- No smoking on property
- No children under the age of 10 (we live on a high bluff with no fencing)
- No generators
- No grills/barbecues/campfires
- Pets must be leashed
We're available if you need anything, have questions about the area, or want recommendations on hiking, biking, dining.
Note that electrical hook-up is available, but water and sewer are not. There are nearby dump sites at Deception Pass State Park (approx 9 miles to the North) or South Whidbey State Park (approx 15 miles to the South). Both charge a fee.
We have three dogs which, unfortunately, can't play with other dogs. One is a retired service dog in his senior years, the other a working service dog, and one a rescue mutt who thinks she's the boss.

Access Road Conditions

Jame's Place is a paved parking spot at the end of a long narrow driveway. The entry turn is a bit tight, but will be fine for an RV or trailer no more than 25'.

Pull in forward to park. To leave requires a three-point turn back-out, The back-out area is about 20' wide, so there is lots of room, but you must be comfortable in reverse.

In our 25' RV, we just pull into the parking pad, then back out and turn around - very simple.

The parking pad has an approximately 3 degree side angle - OK for some people. We have some rubber mats to drive on if you would like to be level.

Tow Vehicle Parking Details

There is a parking spot right next to the RV parking pad.

Mini seaside retreat from bluff perch.

This stay was a ten in every way that is special and important to me to feel like I had a mini vacation.
The hosts are so friendly and encouraged me to enjoy the breathtaking view over the bay from anywhere in their yard or.....down the trail to the pot of gold!
I stretched, wrote ,and carried my whole coffee pot out there !
Next time I will bring my paints!

Oak Harbor

Great location! Even better people. Safe, comfortable and quiet (although, there was a bit of wind and fog- to be expected on a coastline bluff). I travel with my canine side-kick who felt instantly comfortable with them. Although we only had a short visit, we got to meet one of their Great Danes. He may be the most beautiful dog I've ever seen. Well worth the trip in itself.

Nevertheless- if unfamiliar with the area- Oak Harbor has really improved their waterfront area in the last decade. Quite nice, especially for kids/families. I would very much recommend LaConner and Coupville. I have skipped these locations on previous visits & had no idea what I had missed. They are certain to be on my "must visit" locations list in the future.
Overall, great experience and friendly people. What more can you ask?
