Location

Road Access Information: Adjacent to our property is a spacious church parking lot that provides convenient access. Feel free to enter or exit through the parking lot, keeping in mind that it's unavailable during church functions (Sunday mornings/Wednesday evenings). The road is a dead end but features a generously sized turnaround. Look for the clearly marked address on the mailbox. Please note that accessing the property via the driveway may pose challenges for large vehicles due to a drainage ditch and mailbox. Consequently, parking options include the yard or the gravel driveway. Tow Vehicle Parking Guidelines: For tow vehicles, parking is permitted in either the gravel driveway or the yard. We kindly request that you refrain from parking in the church lot for the convenience of all.

Hello, I'm Joe, and together with my wife Taylor, our little one Owen, and our two furry companions, Higgins and Ellie, we form the H****y family. We're a small but adventurous bunch! Our love for travel and exploration led us to join the RV community about four years ago, and we also enjoy hosting boondockers. The thrill of discovering new places and meeting people along the way truly fuels our sense of adventure. Our home is nestled in McGaheysville, Virginia, just outside Harrisonburg. Taylor's deep roots in this area, surrounded by family, make it even more special. I originally hail from the outskirts of Pittsburgh, Pa, and my journey led me to Virginia in 2005 when I joined the fire department. Some of our favorite boondocking spots are scattered within the George Washington National Forest near Fort Valley, VA, offering us the perfect blend of nature and tranquility. On the skills front, I bring my experience as a career Firefighter/EMT, always ready to assist if the need arises. Taylor contributes her expertise in the healthcare billing and insurance field. In essence, our family thrives on weekend adventures, cherishing the beauty of new places, meaningful connections, and the shared joy of exploration.

We got in late and left pretty earlier but it was a nice spot off of the freeway after a long day of hiking in Shannandoah. Cell service was spotty. While you cna still hear the highway it was sparse enough that it did not bother us sleeping. You pull in through a neighboring church parkinglot so i would imagine it could be a little tough to navigate for larger rigs if you came during service.

Jon, Taylor, and little Owen were great host. My reservation was confirmed very quickly. once confirmed, Jon reached out with info and local recommendations. They offered up their fire pit. Little Owen even shared his toy car with my son😉 We had a nice, quiet stay. Perfect for those visiting Massenhutten or the Shenandoahs.

We had a great stay at Route 33 Retreat! We didn’t get a chance to meet our hosts, but they were very thorough in their communication which really helped in getting to the site. If you’re a light sleeper like me, bring earplugs as Route 33 is very close and quite active. If you can sleep thru anything (like my husband) you won’t notice a thing. We didn’t get the chance to explore much as we were doing a work training during our entire stay, but the location is very near Shenandoah NP and an easy stop while heading south!
