Our site is a secluded, wooded acreage with ponds, streams and wildlife. We have walking trails and docks on the ponds. The view of the night sky has nearly no light pollution though it is restricted peripherally by the trees. There is an abundance of wildlife and incredible biodiversity. We do have water available to take on for your fresh tank or drinking (and it’s cold, delicious and fresh from our well). We have a camp fire ring. We also have adults here with some knowledge and training in RV and mechanical issues/repairs (appropriate fees for work do apply). We have a garden in season and there is also some availability for wild harvesting of berries and mushrooms, etc in season. Suggested Local Attractions:We are 5 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway (about 7 miles from the Mabry Mill site). We are close to Buffalo Mountain Natural area preserve. There are hiking trails on Buffalo Mountain and on the parkway. We are in Floyd County, VA which is on the Crooked Road music trail and home to Floyd Fest each summer. There are many local farms and thriving farm markets in the warm season. The Little River in Floyd also has some good fishing. There is a campground in nearby Meadows of Dan and a couple in Floyd county for your dumping and paid/hookup needs.

Also, if your generator is very loud, we may ask that you reduce the time you are using it. Safety is the word. We are happy to enjoy all varieties of people (and their animal friends) but safety is paramount Finally - please practice pack it in/pack it out. There are dumpster sites around the county where you may drop your trash when you leave (I can provide location suggestions based on your intended route). There are also campgrounds in the region for your dumping and paid/hookup camping needs
Location
Access Road Conditions: The road to the property is paved, 2 lane but no painted lines or reflectors (country road). The driveway on the property is gravel and dirt/mud. There are some relatively tight turns and maneuvering and backing up will be necessary. I am quite comfortable with my excursion towing a 35 ft Jayco bumper pull with these maneuvers but if you have a large rig and are not comfortable with backing it up, this is not the site for you. There are also trees and the possibility of contact if your rig is tall Tow Vehicle Parking Details: We have plenty of area in our regular driveway space for tow vehicle if needed/desired

Adventure seeking roadschooler Details: I am a homeschooling mom of 9 (traveling with 7). We are on a year long sabbatical journey to see most of the United States (and a little of Mexico and Canada). My husband is occasionally able to join us. We love to explore the outdoors and are always looking for new things to see and do. Home Town: Our current residence is in Virginia. We have lived in Texas and California. I'm originally from Montana. Favorite Boondocking Locations: Many! Skills or Expertise to Share: I can offer encouragement! I love to get to know new people and encourage them on their journey. I love to exchange ideas about history, science, plants, herbs, health, education/homeschooling, women's health and other topics relevant to my lifestyle. I am fairly handy and do light building. The children and I love to lend a hand in farm chores, gardening or harvesting.

We arrived towards the end of the day, and our hostess had already told us she would be out when we arrived. It is a bit challenging to back into the spot by the lake, but we did it without too much trouble (& I am not an experienced driver). The spot is gorgeous, and tho the night we arrived the temps dipped into the low 20s, we still had a very quiet and restful night. We will stay there again!

Ruth is an enthusiastic very helpful person. Arrived after dark Ruth met us at the gate explained what was involved to maneuver the driveway and directed backing in to parking spot. Our rig is 45’ long (truck and trailer) it took a little jockeying to park but Ruth was very helpful

If you looking for a peacful place to stay this a nice spot. It’s nestled by the Blue ridge parkway and Floyd. Our site was gravel /grass and pretty level by a small pond near by. Water is available, no electric. However, if you meet Ruth she has big plans to include electric! Love this woman! She is a wealth of information from her own travel experiences. Ruth is a wonderful host and her children are delighful!
