I am 16 miles from White Sands National Park, and there are several attractions locally and within short drives. Carlsbad Caverns are about 3 hours away. I am centrally located in Alamogordo. RV parking here is on dirt in my backyard with no fencing. There is a free dump station at the Chamber of Commerce, 1301 N White Sands Blvd, Alamogordo, NM.
You are welcome to use my outside 120V electric box, and hook up to my outdoor city water tap. A generator can be used on a limited basis. A dumpster is very close, and a free RV dump station is less than 2 miles away. I am also less than 2 miles from 2 Wal-Mart stores. There is a decent hospital about 3 miles away if needed. While I go along with social distancing during this so called pandemic, I do not wear a mask on my own property. I generally only check my emails in the morning, and late at night, so don't expect immediate responses. Quickest contact is with my landline phone number (575-434-1180). I am always available, and encourage, yak time.
All city streets, no access problems.
Some room adjacent to RV or on the street.
I live alone, so if I don't answer your call, I may be working outside, or answering nature's call. Keep trying about every half hour. Thanks

We enjoyed staying at Ted’s place. He was a great resource for things to do. The neighborhood was great for walking our dog. Had a nice visit with Ted. He gave us great info on free dump stations in town. We even got to experience a gully washer… big rain storm that lasted for only a short time. Glad we could stay here and will consider it again.
Good location for visiting White Sands NP, Space History museum. No missile tests though.
Nice to have electric hookup, but did not need AC, cool night. Slept really well. Quiet, level parking area.
Host was super helpful, offered WiFi.
Incredibly clean convenient free dump in local Chamber of Commerce. Wish all towns did the same.
Ted was very friendly. Guided me into his back yard. He offered me a 20 amp circuit but my trailer needs a 30 amp.
He said there would be no problem running my generator.
What a treat to get to stay with this host. He knows so much about the area. Directions were very easy to follow. He is in a perfect location to visit White Sands. We really enjoyed just sitting and talking with him.
If you are on your way to Cloudcroft or White Sands or the Space Museum ... Ted’s place it the perfect spot. He could not be a nicer human. He does this just to chat with people but is super casual and accommodating. Great recos. Lovely guy. Super convenient and easy.
Our host was very welcoming and provided some helpful local info. The backyard was level and we enjoyed a quiet good night’s rest before heading off early to visit White Sands NP
You certainly can’t go wrong with this host! His house is in a great spot within walking distance to much and short driving distances to everything else you could plan to visit.
He was a pleasure to “yak” with and we wish we had more time to visit
My husband and I stayed at Ted’s Humble Abode for 2 nights while in the Alamogordo NM area. Ted is a gracious host and offered us use of his water and electric, however we did not need them during this stay. The area in back of his house was plenty big enough for our 32 ft fifth-wheel. The host location is only 18 minutes from White Sands National Monument which we thoroughly enjoyed. If you get the chance to stay at this location make sure to visit the CLOUDCROFT area just up the mountain about 25 minutes away. The town is adorable and much cooler (due to elevation). We ate at the CLOUDCROFT Brewery and it was delicious! The place had great beers and atmosphere! We would stay at Ted’s host location again.
Great experience. Host was indeed humble and very gracious. Great view from our spot. No extra leveling was required on our 34' C. Was pretty darn quiet as well. Thank you very much & we would stay again.
Search the world over and try to find a more kind and generous person than our host at Ted’s Humble Abode. I suspect your search will be in vain. Ted is the best, and our conversations with him MADE this stop for us. Ted doesn’t have a camper. I asked him, “What made you want to be a Boondockers Welcome Host?” He replied, “I like helping other people. I have this space available and I said to myself, ‘Why not?” This response exemplifies Ted.
Ted took the time to draw us up a map of things to see and do in the area, and asked us what we were interested in. All in all a most delightful stop, and THIS is the reason we find Boondocker’s Welcome such a delight. Traveling, to us, is about meeting the locals and learning about their lives and seeing their town. You don’t get this in a commercial campground. If you like ‘urban camping’ (which we do) you will want to drop by and see Ted. Tell ’im we said, ‘hello’.
As a side note: I read some of Ted’s other reviews concerning barking dogs keeping them awake. There are some dogs in the neighborhood, but I never heard one barking at night. The dogs are friendly.
Backing in with a large camper (we have a 30ft 5th wheel) might be technically challenging for some. It might have been for me, but I was having a ‘good back up day’, and I nailed it the first time. Ted actually had a neighbor move his car on the street prior to my arrival to give me a bit more wiggle room in backing up. There is very little traffic on the side street so you won’t feel pressured to back in quickly.
Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Ted was so kind to take care of all of our needs. He's an interesting guy, so make time to speak with him. Oh and his guacamole is outstanding! Thank you Ted!!
Doc and I had a enjoyable and relaxing time on the host property. We were able to do a lot of fun things in the time we were in town. The host was very nice and helpful. We appreciate him letting us stay on his property. Thank you again
Returning back from national park visit. Great host. Neighborhood a liitle rough.
Very much appreciate this hosts communication and patience. Would love to stay when I’m in the area again!
Basic parking spot good for smaller or probably even medium RVs (something massive is probably not going to fit here), with electric and water and a very friendly host! He made us sandwiches and was very pleasant and helpful. I think my husband may have adopted him as an uncle now. We are thankful for the stay and would stay here again.
We had an excellent stay at Ted's Humble Abode. He was very welcoming and friendly. Location is convenient to White Sand National Monument and Cloudcroft. Both are must sees.
Ted’s Humble abode was a great visit. I had dinner with Ted two nights in a row and we really had a nice time learning about each other. He was extremely gracious - even drew me a map of the area.
Super close to White Sands - and highly recommend a visit. The Space Museum was closed due to Covid and renovations. Should be an impressive museum once it reopens.
We only could stay one night here because our RV ended up needing repairs. Ted was very kind and understanding. His space was a little difficult to get into for our 34’ fifth wheel but the location was excellent for exploring White Sands.
Ted was extremely kind and hospitable to us. He invited us to stay another day and offered many amenities to us. He was super helpful and we really appreciate him having us!
If I had more time there I would have honestly invited him to join us for some of the fun activities Alamogordo offers. Thanks for being a great friend Ted, and for the delicious treat we got to take with us!
Located is a nice central location, Ted's Himble abode was a great stop and Ted was very helpful and welcoming. Would stay again if in the area!
My partner and I stayed with ted for two nights so we could visit white sands and do some hiking. It turned out that the weather prevented us from hiking, but we enjoyed our visit all the same! Ted was very helpful and let us do our thing. Would definitely recommend a stay here if you’re trying to explore white sands!
Ted is a kind and thoughtful host. We had a great stay. His spot is level and east to back into. His home is well located for activities, laundry, or groceries. He provided us with plenty of ideas for what to do in the area. Thanks again Ted for the great stay and the guacamole!
The host was very helpful and friendly. A short drive to White Sands, which is a must see.
Ted.Hopkins was a very thoughtful and kind host. We really enjoyed meeting and talking to him. The space had plenty of room, with electric and water and he even let us use a dumpster. We had about 3 bar of T-Mobile and Verizon here. Great spot to stop and see white sands
Great quick stay at Ted's Humble Abode. We were just passing through town and had a nice quick set up and rested well. thank you again!
Ted was a very friendly host. He gave us lots of recommendations of things to check out in the area and even drew us a map. He knocked on our door and gave us some delicious chips and guacamole which went great with our tacos that night! If you’re a light sleeper, you may have some difficulty here as the neighbors 3 dogs are active barkers and we had birds dancing on our trailer every morning. We are from the city so we can sleep through lots of noise so it wasn’t really an issue for us. About 20 minutes to White Sands NP (highly recommend!) and 30 to Cloudcroft. Overall a really nice place to stay while we explored New Mexico for the first time.
My host happily supplied a safe place for me to stay. He also gave me directions on a free dump station which is always helpful. A great place for a passing through stay.
Ted is a very nice host. His spot is in a great location for exploring Cloudcroft and White Sands. He was helpful in making a map to area sites and stores. The free dump station is really close and convenient. The dogs do bark but they aren’t that bad. If we are ever in the area again we would definitely stay again!
I enjoyed my stay at this location. The host was kind and showed me around the area. He also suggested attractions that I might enjoy. I would definitely stay here again.
TH was a welcoming host, and his location is so close to the White Sand Dunes (we went twice!).
Do bring a pair of ear plugs, the neighbor's three dogs bark all night. The puppers are friendly though and lick you through the fence. We'd stay again!
I was delighted to be Ted’s first Boondocker’s guest.
His humble abode space is centrally located In Alamogordo and 16 miles from White Sands.
Ted’s space accommodated my 23’ RV and 14’ toad w/water and 15 amp electric if you need it. A free dump station is close.
Ted was very welcoming and assisted me w/my setup. He’s also very personable was was kind to drive me on la tour of an overview of the town.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, going to White Sands, Missle Museum was Covid closed, yet would highly recommend Ted’s for your stay.
Also has a great view from his front porch of magical sunsets!
