We sit at the top of the Catoctin Mountain range off the beaten path. We have three sites to choose from, all are level, grassy and next to a tree line. Guests are welcome to join us on the patio for a campfire and watch for deer and bear. Water and electric(15A) available if necessary. 30A Electric is available, but only for rigs that park in the driveway closer to the house.
No smoking, but cigars are welcome. No fires except on the patio. We have grills(charcoal and gas) if you want to use them.
We are located approximately 2,000 feet up on the Catoctin Mountain range. The main route is Route 77 from the east (Thurmont) and west (Smithsburg). We are also accessible from I-70(exit 42) thru Myersville and Wolfesville from the south on Route 17. Route 77 ascends about 1500 vertical feet over 4-6 miles and is a well traveled road through Catoctin National Park and Cunningham Fall State Park. We maneuver all roads with our 35' fifth wheel easily. Please carefully consider road limitations and your comfort level when booking. We'd love to have you, but we don't want you to have a "white-knuckle" ride getting here. Guests may need to back in to an easily accessible spot, depending on rig size and length. We'll be glad to help you get in and out.
In driveway, or on grass.
Due to our central location near Gettysburg, Antietam, Harpers Ferry, and several National and State Parks, we have many requests for stays, especially in the spring and summer. On occasion, depending on the rig size and number of guests, we can accomodate 2 groups at the same time, however, those requests generally require more lead time, so get that request in as soon as you are able. Our calendar is updated weekly with changes to available dates.
We are located at the top of the Catoctin mountain range running through Cunningham Falls State Park and Catoctin National Park, home of Camp David(you can't visit there). Both parks are less than 5 minutes away along with the Appalachian Trail, also 5 minutes away. Cunningham Falls is the tallest waterfall in MD, and is easily accessible from a number of trails, including a handicap accessible lot. Gettysburg National Park, the Antietam Battlefield and Harper's Ferry National Park are all a 30 minute drive. Red Heifer Winery, Catoctin Breeze Vineyard, Big Cork Vineyard, and Springfield Winery & Distillery are nearby. Frederick, MD is a great little town to visit and stroll Market Street.
From the kids: miss Cindy was very nice and gave us a zucchini bread. They also told us about Gettysburg which everyone should do.
From mom: Tom was very helpful with some repairs to my rv & equipment. The property was quiet and relaxing, and a short drive to both Gettysburg and hiking.
So happy to have found this pretty and quiet corner of Maryland with such accommodating and nice folks. Sorry we didn’t have more time to spend with them and in the area. Hope we have the occasion to come back! And the zucchini bread was delicious! Thank you so much!
A positive experience from beginning to end. Tom and Cindy have a wonderful property. We were there for a quick stop to ride a bike event the next day and they realized we needed our rest. Next time we plan on sitting and enjoying their fire pit and friendly conversation!! Thanks Cindy for the high five as we rode past on our bikes!! And thank you for the delicious zucchini bread!!!
Camp Catoctin is a great spot. Hosts are so friendly and helpful. Fabulous zucchini bread, camp fire chat and so helpful w some minor van issues & making plans. Very enjoyable stay
Awesome hosts! Tom and Cindy are super friendly and helped us get set up upon arrival. Both were very informative about local attractions and things to do which was very appreciated. Close proximity to Gettysburg and Harpers ferry along with state parks, make this a hidden gem. We would love to visit again.
We were grateful to find this peaceful, mountain spot for a quick overnight stay. The trees we were parked next to provided enough shade that we only needed to open the windows and run the fans. We appreciated the 15A provided!
Our hosts were great! The chocolate zucchini bread that Cindy gave us was such an unexpected treat and incredibly delicious! Thank you!
We would stop here again!
Hosts are super kind and generous. They gave us loads of information, and some fun toys for the kids to use on our travels.
We had a great first Boondockers Welcome experience at Camp Catoctin. The spot was nice and level and lots of shade—super friendly hosts. If we ever find ourselves in the area again, we would certainly see if we could stay with them again.
We were looking for a peaceful layover on our maiden voyage to Maine. This is a nice quiet country setting with mostly treed canopy, so AC is not necessary. Hosts are more than helpful with historic info and sightseeing recommendations. Don't be put off by road descriptions coming in. Yes, state highway up and down the mountain is twisty and moderately steep, but easily maneuverable by much longer than our 30' fifth wheel. Relatively short 4 ish miles up and down.
Tom and Cindy were super accommodating. Cindy made us a fantastic zuchini bread which was a pleasant surprise. Their welcomed us to wander their yard which includes a nice trail network and attractive gardens. We found it was best to back into their driveway which was no problem and they have a number of great great spots to park your rig. Scenic drive through the park to get to their place. It was a very nice stay.
This place is peaceful and the hosts are great! Communication prior to our arrival was excellent. Upon arriving the host helped us into the location for our stay for a few nights. Their property is beautiful and has some nice trails in the back for walking our pup. We've had the best sleep here, it is really quiet and you will wake to the chirping of birds. The hosts repeatedly asked, if we were ok, and did we need anything, they make you feel like part of the family. They are so generous, not only offering a great place to stay, but water, 15 amps and great advise about the area. So much to do in the here, we know we'll be back. We are so grateful our paths have crossed! We are looking forward to seeing our hosts again either here or in NH.
The hosts were very gracious, they accepted my stay even though it was a last minute request, and allowed me to stay for a night to visit with my friends who were staying there. Tom was helpful and offered to provide anything I needed. Cindy was so sweet, she made a delicious zucchini bread for me. I'm grateful they let me stay, I had a fabulous time visiting with my friends. It is such a beautiful area and so many interesting things to do I hope to be able to stay there again. Thank you Tom and Cindy you are wonderful hosts.
Loved our night at Tom and Cindy’s, such a beautiful secluded area. Cindy greeted us, very helpful in getting set up. Met us with a sweet little gift. Definitely recommend.
Note, if you GPS sends you up Hayes Road, call Tom & Cindy for alternative directions:)
What a wonderful first experience at Boondocking. Tom, Cindy and Henry were great hosts. Tom provided expert help directing me as I backed in off the road and into the driveway. Very welcoming and gracious folks. They have a beautiful piece of property and we had a gorgeous sunrise. Perfect location for visiting Gettysburg, Antietam and the Cacoctin Mountains and nearby state parks. Sorry we were only able to stay one night. They gave us a lot of good advice on our best route options on the various mountain roads. Hope to ge back there again.
We can’t say enough about T, C and Henry! They were so kind and welcoming. They helped us get backed in and settled, had a homemade welcome gifts or us, and gave us hints on the local attractions. It was great to get to know them around the fire! They are a great couple and we can’t say enough about their hospitality! They have a beautiful place and the surrounding landscapes and historical homes in the area are breathtaking! Thank you T and C!
We thought we left a reference for our gracious hosts at Camp Catoctin months ago. Sorry about the oversize. We had a great time visiting with this fine couple and enjoyed an evening beside the fire on their deck. We will probably visit them again in the future. 👍👫😁
I can't say strongly enough how nice these two guys are. From the moment they welcomed me to their property to the time I left, they couldn't have been more helpful and generous with their time. I hesitate to say that Tom helped me fix a brake problem on my trailer--it's more accurate to say that I helped him fix my problem.
The reward for making the drive to their place is a very, very quiet place to spend the night.
Super people and great location.
Tom-and-Cindy's place is nestled in nature and close to so much. Gettysburg is about a 30 minute drive, there are a number of hiking trails in the State Park and in the Catoctin Mountain Park (less than 10 minute drive from their home) and plenty of trails in their backyard too. The site in their yard was perfect and they are a couple of the kindest people you will ever meet. We hung out around the fire in the back yard the first night and then I was treated a beautiful piano serenade on my last night with them. Tom also helped me with an RV repair, he is quite handy :-) They went above and beyond in every aspect of my stay. Thank you so much Tom and Cindy and I hope our paths cross again!
Beautiful property in a great location. Thanks again for letting us enjoy it for the night.
Really enjoyed my stay there. Very nice and accommodating hosts. Really beautiful home in nice neighborhood. Wish them and Henry safe travels
Great hosts. Enjoyed our conversation on the outdoor back patio. Nice sunrise over the mountains. Parked on the large driveway because of recent rains, but the wooded view surrounding us was very nice. If parking on the driveway because of rain, bring leveling blocks.
We had a great stay at Camp Catoctin. Hosts were very helpful, accommodating and made us feel welcome. The location was beautiful and very quiet. There is so much to do and see in their area and we hope to stay with them again.
Loved our stay! From our first contact, their friendly welcome, great directions and very generous hospitality it was a five star stay. It's a quiet beautiful location which is close to so many
things which were on our bucket list. Definitely met new friends and hope to meet up again sometime.
On the top of a mountain and in the shade, does it get any better than this. Yes, add in fantastic hosts and fireworks and you have a perfect 4th of July weekend. Enjoyed riding all the country roads and great pizza from a local place. Arrived strangers but left friends. What an enjoyable experience, would like to come back in the fall and see all the foliage when it turns. Thanks so much for your hospitality!
