We are a public airport, operated by a non-profit civic organization based near a town - Trona, California.
There is a large selection of areas to place a camper, RV rig on the airport, but, services are very limited.
Water is currently available to all visitors.
Electric could be made available if it is truly necessary, at specific locations.
Most of the area is flat, but, very sandy, if one leaves the typically traveled areas.
We (my wife & I) live on the airfield and supply a reasonable amount of security and protection.
There is a gate at the entrance that is typically opened at about 6:00 A.M. and closed about 9:00 P.M.
Other specific arrangements can always be made, nearly anytime.
Do not approach any hangars or hangar owners without an invitation.
Aggressive animals will not be tolerated. We have a very friendly dog that likes all others and people.
Controlled fires are acceptable seasonally, but, must be maintained very carefully.
Your stay will consist of one day, as one 24 hour period, i.e.; check in 4:00 P.M. today, check out by 4:00 P.M. the following day - or, make arrangements to stay as long as you like.
Airport proper is fenced with Barbed Wire. Please keep children under control, averting possible injury.
Please be considerate of others.
We make a serious effort to accommodate all visitors, and we do comment to the Boondockers' website following each and every stay. We look forward to commenting favorably on your visit also.
Dirt and sand areas mostly, but, some paved area for those requiring it.
Large choice of areas to choose from.
No trees anywhere on the property.
Generally, pulling through is acceptable.
Paved county road leads to the property.
Terrain is mostly very flat, and can be very sandy in spots.
Power could be made available, at nominal fee, on a temporary basis.
Next to or near the rig and on the property.
We do a lot of last minute trips in the summer, but, feel free to give us a shout & see if we can accommodate you.
We are nearly always available and look forward to meeting new friends.

Perfect spot. Very accomodating host. Really appreciative of good conversation, great stories
Very pleasant stay. Thank you
Great spot on the way to Death Valley. It was so great that we asked if we could come back on the return trip. Everything was excellent again. Easy, level and private parking and the hospitality is so warm and generous. Thanks again!
What a treat it was to stay at Trona Airport. It was wide open space with great amenities and even greater hosts. We were welcomed warmly and encouraged to feel free to explore the airport and take a look at the small planes on the tarmac. The location was perfect for our one night stop on the way to Death Valley. Our hosts invited us to stay longer and if we didn’t already have a Death Valley campground reserved, we’d definitely have taken them up on it. Really nice place and laid back people. A+
We spent one night here, really enjoyed it. We stayed in a flat area about half way down the runway, no one else around. Has beautiful sunset and sunrise views. The hosts were very nice, showed us the different areas that we could choose from around the airport (there are many!). Really appreciate their hospitality!
Was a nice place to stop for the night. Host was friendly and welcoming, there were airplanes for our daughter to look at, room to walk around and stretch our legs a bit, and a friendly dog :) Very quiet and flat too.
We thank the host very much for welcoming us and providing us with all we needed. Everything was above and beyond our expectations! It was such a pleasant stay. Will definitely return when we visit death valley! Thanks so much.
We were able to hike the trail along the perimeter of the airport, visit The Pinnacles where Westworld was filmed, and head to Death Valley for the Artist Palette drive-all must do's when here. Hosts were welcoming and good at explaining the goings-on at the airport and around the area. It was fun to see small planes out our RV living room window and all the stars at night! Since Death Valley campgrounds are closed for COVID now (December 2020), this is a good spot to be to explore that area. Once in a while you can smell the sulphur smell coming from the Searles Valley Minerals plant, if the wind is blowing the wrong direction (maybe 3 times in 5 days). There is diesel gas in Trona and propane for $2.89 a gallon at the Tractor Supply Company in Ridgecrest. You'll also find an Albertsons, Home Depot, and other big chain stores in Ridgecrest. The RV dump at Desert Empire Fairgrounds in Ridgecrest is open 24 hours and has potable water. Overall, a wonderful and memorable experience!
What a delightful stop! We stayed for 3 nights in November. The weather was perfect, the views spectacular, we had the runway to ourselves and AngelDriver is a most accommodating host. We will definitely be returning to the runway another day.
We spent our very first night on our trip at the Trona Airport. George and Colin (and the dogs) were super friendly and helped us park and get settled in. We really enjoyed talking with them both, and can't say enough good things about them. We loved the convenience of the pilots' lounge too. It's a beautiful and tranquil spot and we'd definitely stop here again.
If you are anywhere near this area you HAVE to stay here! Angel driver and Staff are fantastic and extremely helpful. Being our first Boondocking Welcome experience the bar is set super high now. They allowed us to use our generator during the day and at night, set us up in our own area with a great view. Gave us a tour and history of the airport and even offered water and AC in the pilots lounge if we wanted to use it. We greatly appreciate them and how at home they made us feel while we were there. Thank you!
