Welcome to our historic home in a little farming town on the Connecticut shoreline. We have lived in our home that was built in 1782 for 7 years. We welcome you with your van camper to stay the night or two! We do not have a separate grill or fire ring for your parking spot, but you are free to use our charcoal weber or Weber gas grill. Whether you are passing through, or here to see the local sites, we look forward to meeting you! Due to the fact that we have three dogs, we ask that only campers with one small dog join us at our home. We do have a fenced in side yard for you to use when our dogs are in the house. When you walk your dog please pick up after then and remove from the property. Our home sits on a main road and there will be road noise! We have 3 acres with the main house a rental cottage and a workshop/ garage. You will park next to the workshop that overlooks our vegetable garden and rolling backyard. We do live on a main road that does have regular traffic if you are sensitive to car noise then this may not be the place for you. But if you have your AC going it shouldn’t be too bad. We hope to see you all here soon and learning all about your travels. Suggested Local Attractions:Hammonasset State Park beach, Old Saybrook, Essex Steam Train, Gillette Castle State Park. Connecticut River, Long Island Sound are all within 10-20 mins drive. There are too many attractions to list them all! Very fun spot. And if your looking for lobster, then head to lobster landing #1 rated in New England and only 10 mins down the road right on Clinton Harbor.

Historic homeowners near the Shoreline Details: Both Rob and I grew up on the Connecticut shoreline, I grew up in Old Saybrook and he grew up in Branford. We have been married for 7 years. We have three children and when our youngest left for college we got back into camping. We are excited to meet new travelers and get stories and ideas of places to visit. Home Town: Rob and I live in a agricultural town on the shoreline of Connecticut. It’s a historic town, and our home was built in 1782! It was originally built for the second pastor of the congregational church. The third-floor used to house a small private boys classroom, where Henry Wadsworth Longfellow came to teach and wrote books. The birds of Killingworth was written here! Skills or Expertise to Share: Rob is a contractor and we both work in the construction field. I’m in commercial and he is in residential.

We pulled in here just before dark in the middle of a downpour. Our hosts had given us great directions on where to park and even had the AC power cord out and ready for us which we greatly appreciated. We decided it would be best to back in beside their RV while we still had some light as it would make it easier to leave the next morning. We were just passing thru and with the rain and darkness we didn't have a chance to meet out hosts or see their 1782 home. The gardens looked wonderful and we would have liked to look around if it hadn't been for the rain. We really wanted to inquire about the numerous old rock walls we saw on properties around the area as we're sure it's some interesting history. We enjoyed a quiet peaceful night before continuing south down the coast early the next morning.

We needed a place to stay before visiting relatives in Hamden. There was great communication between us and our hosts. Rob came to greet us and we discussed their gardens. We will stay again!

Hosts were incredibly accommodating, even providing power and water and asking for nothing in return. nice, safe, beautiful spot to stay for the night. Wouldn’t hesitate to stop by again.

Beautiful home and grounds with gardens. Walkable to cute ice cream parlor. I read previous comments about road noise but neither of us noticed anything all night, with windows open so probably only an issue for light sleepers. Owners were very nice and offered lots of helpful tips on restaurants, etc. Even offered us to pick veggies from the garden if we wanted. Highly recommend.

Great communication and flexibility on Arrival time. Beautiful property. Enjoyed a walk around the gardens before the rain set in for the night. The parking was level and electric hook up and water was kindly offered freely. We (Sprinter van) had no trouble entering between the gate posts and turning to park in front of the workshop but don’t think a bigger rig would make it. Only slight negative was the view of the beautiful backyard and vegetable garden was obscured by the hosts RV. We heard the traffic noise when outside but it did not bother us at night however it was pouring with rain! Nice rural area 10 mins from coast.
