We have a strawbale home on 20 acres. It is in a development, but neighbors are few and far between. We are at 7300 ft elevation, amid pinon and juniper. The views from our property are pretty darn good. We are adjacent to BLM land, so there is plenty of hiking right from home base. We have a fire pit and horseshoe pits available for your use. We have an outdoor pizza oven that we might be convinced to fire up if you feel like making pizzas. We're 23 miles from any town, so the night skies are spectacular. Sometimes it seems like you could just reach up and touch the milky way. We are frequented by deer and elk and other wildlife.
Number one rule is that you MUST call us from the road when you arrive in either Springerville, AZ or Quemado, NM. We will meet you on highway 60 and guide you to our home. Your GPS will not find our house - you will get lost if you try to find it on your own, and there is no cell service where we live.
If there is a "no burn" ban, then absolutely no open fires
Likewise, if it is during fire season, smoking outside could be hazardous. Please, smoke only at the burn pit.
No running generators after 9:00pm please
We live a mile and a half off Hwy 60, on a dirt road. If it's been raining or snowing, it can be really sloppy. Otherwise, it's a well maintained road. We have 2 options for driveways - one is steeper than the other. Both will require you to make a relatively tight turn, but we do it in our 23ft Class C without a problem. There are juniper trees that may brush your sides if you're not careful. We will try to get those limbed up so it won't be a problem.
We have plenty of open space to park your vehicle. You will want to unhook it before you come up our driveway, however.
We do a lot of last minute trips, so we might be gone even if I've forgotten to block it off the calendar. I'll try to be vigilant, but the best laid plans of mice and men...

Wonderful hosts and great peoples. A beautiful place, and it was great sharing stories and hearing about their travel experiences during our informal happy hour. This place is like a postcard, not a sound around, except for the bird songs and the clearest night sky you could ever hope for. What else would you need for a perfect stay?
Sher & Gene are extraordinary hosts. From meeting me in town where I followed them to their home, to helping me park they were pros at this stuff. We had a wonderful evening chatting on their porch with a 2nd guest they had. This was the best evening I've enjoyed in a long time. Their home is very unique and I enjoyed how quiet their property was. If they still are hosting guests on my return I'll defiantly stay again! Thanks!
What a fun experience to stay overnight on this unique property! The hosts are the MOST, and go to Herculean efforts to allow guests to stay with them.
Happy Hour with these interesting folks & a tour of their straw bale home is an added bonus!
Thank you, Gene & Sher, for your hospitality!
I never felt more welcome and accepted than I was by this couple. They were fun, pragmatic, helpful and so very gracious and generous. I feel like I have made a friendship that will last a lifetime. They did everything possible to accommodate me and showered affection on my old dog too. Their pomace is out of the way (be prepared for no cell service) but they shared WiFi and OMG the stars at night! So close you could touch them! I can’t recommend this stay more highly.
