Have you stayed at this host location?
Leave a reference for this hostThis site is what boondocking is all about. Very quiet, shaded, and secluded spot, surrounded by hundreds of undeveloped acres and no street lights. The site pad is gravel and measures 20' X 40'.
Keep the gate locked and please be considerate of the folks that live along Shoup Rd. by driving slow to prevent dust. No smoking within 200' of Gas Wells. Hike at your own risk. Firewood usually provided or gather anything off forest floor. Do not burn plastic in the fire pit or leave any trash. Water tank fill-up available at my residence.
Access road will turn into a one lane private gravel road. Continue 3 tenths mile on that gravel road and there will be one short steep hill with a gradual turn to the right. (Not good for large 5th wheel or travel trailers). Continue until the road ends at the green Penneco Oil Co Gate #2. The gate will probably be locked so there will be a key on a table on my front porch. Please lock gate after passing through. You may keep the key until your departure, just don't forget to leave it on the porch. Continue 3 tenths mile on this road to camp site. (no camping at Gas Well grassy sites) This is a flat solid road and all limbs and brush have been cleared so no worries about scratching your unit. Best RV for this site is a small motorhome or small trailer.
Opposite side of road is a pull-off spot.
Ghost Town Bicycle Trail (5 miles), Buttermilk Falls (6 miles), Laurel Highlands Hiking Trailhead (10 miles). West Penn Bicycle Trail (10 miles) museums, fishing, kayaking, and much more.
We had to cut our stay short due to weather and family, but not only was the site absolutely perfect for us, but the host could not have been more hospitable. He was helpful, informative, generous and obviously a very talented person all around. We will definitely visit again.
This is what boondocking is all about! Wonderful property + wonderful host= wonderful experience!
Another great few days of relaxation and conversation at the road’s end retreat!! Grateful that Jims56acres chooses to share his gorgeous piece of property! Time spent here is truly a special treat.
5 days here at the Road’s End Retreat and I’m pretty sure I still do not have adequate words to describe what an honor it was to stay on such a gorgeous piece of property and with such a gracious host! The pristine camping site is level, safe and very private. It is most apparent that sharing the natural beauty and history of the property is a labor of love for Jims56acres and I was in awe around every turn on the hiking trails. He was helpful in providing a list of services and things to do in the area, but my favorite part of the stay was enjoying the beautiful trails here on the property- both his guided tour and the multiple trips daily across the trails with my dog! The great fire pit, conversations and a perfect spot for stargazing just added to the experience. Oh, and we won’t talk about the delicious homemade GOBs!! Staying here was an absolute treat in every way! I will be back! Gobs or not.
