There are parking lot lights, a garbage can, and a port-a-potty. There is a firepit with a short climb up the hill. There is a wooded area to walk pets. We do require that pets be on a leash, as we have two cats. And of course, a funky ice cream shop with premium ice cream, a sculpture park in the woods, and lots of places to sit in the shade! We request a maximum of 3 days. It is suggested to call ahead because sometimes the parking lot can be full of customers. But after 9:30 pm or so, all you'll hear is road traffic. From October thru March, the shop is closed, so you can come anytime. Just please be considerate, and leave it like you found it!
You can run your generator.
No unleashed dogs.
Must arrive outside business hours (12-9 Wed. thru Sat., 2-9 Sun) on weekends
Please leave it as you found it!
Busy road (rt. 89), then down a small hill to lower parking lot of Scoops Ice Cream & Such ice cream shop. Shop is open 12-9 pm Wed. thru Sat. and 2-9 on Sunday. It is a busy ice cream shop; on weekends you would have to get there outside those times.
Can park along back hill ridge in lower parking lot close to carport. Back in also available.
Don't plan to arrive between 12-9:30 pm on weekends between April and September, as the parking lot may be full of cars. You do not have to worry about meeting with us if we have already accepted your reservation by phone or text.
Mount Airy is Andy Griffith's hometown, so Mayberry is just minutes away! Also we love Pilot Mountain State Park. Round Peak Winery is just around the corner.
I arrived late in the evening and stayed at the back parking lot which was large and empty. There was a little bit of road noise but the stay was safe and quiet. We sampled the ice cream at Scoops which was truly delicious! Scoops ice cream was quite the venue, its rustic with seating and hanging lights, it was like a hippy hangout, very cool and laid back.
The next day we had breakfast at the Copper Pot restaurant which was a short drive away. Downtown Mt. Airy was a short distance away. We had a delightful day there looking at the stores, and going on the patrol car tour. This was a great place to Boondock if visiting Mt. Airy or if you are stopping over on your way to another destination.
