Thank you for your interest in my Boondocking location. 😁
QUARANTINE FRIENDLY. If you are a stranded traveler, the number of nights' stay can be renegotiated.
Longer stays, (over a week) if hooked to electric, a small bit of help with the bill would be appreciated, but Not at all expected. I will leave that to your discretion. Just an appreciative hello and goodbye, makes it all worth it for me.
CURRENTLY the Schoharie County is under NYS Quarantine guidelines. You are more than welcome to park at my property, and plug in, use my acre to spread out, take a walk, or whatever you need, and I can keep my distance and still try to make sure you have all that I can to make your stay comfortable.
Local restaurants and fast food places are offering drive-thru, and take out. Some are offering outside dining , and limited dine-in options as well.
As well, Price Chopper , Walmart , Stewarts, Tractor Supply, and Mobil marts are available, with fewer hours than normal, but are still open. Some produce or items may be limited, or in smaller supply. Most stores in the area are requiring a mask be worn, to enter, at this time.
The local Cobleskill Regional Hospital is NOT handling COVID-19 cases at this time. They are only able to care for regular health and critical cases at this time. If you find yourself in need of medical care involving Covid-19, you can contact the Cooperstown BASSETT HOSPITAL hotline # at 607-547-5555, for help or advise, while in our area.
My home is in the center of Schoharie County , in upstate New York, right in the middle of Cooperstown NY & Albany NY along I-88. It is an area with beautiful forest and country farmland. Plenty of hiking and kayaking possibilities.
My home is a 2-story cape on an acre of land, outlined in the back by woods. I have a fire pit and plenty of room if you wish to set up tents as well.
The driveway is blacktop on a slight incline, about 50 ft long...The turn into the driveway is tighter, so although the driveway is longer, it may be more difficult to turn a vehicle in if it is over 33 feet, (unless there is a bend in the middle ,like an item you're towing) But you are welcome to give it a try if you have a longer vehicle.
The field (when dry), has pull through parking and many available spots , from boondocking far away from the house, to hookup parking near the house, or in the back field by the fire pit. The lower field also has the option of parking next to a small shed that includes a small kitchen/ sitting area , (like a small airbnb extra) that you can also use while you're here.
* It is best to enter the driveway (or the field ) coming UP the hill from North St or North Grand St. You will probably bottom out coming from the other direction.
* When the weather is dryer, you may use any area of the field ( access to h2o is available near the house, unless you have a really long hook up) H2O is hooked on well water. I can supply an extension cord to the field, if you need the 15 amp plug in.
CHILDREN are Always welcome here😁. There is plenty of room to spread out yard games , if you have badminton or volleyball or croquet or Frisbees or bubbles.. feel free to spread out and have fun.
Small & non-aggressive breed dogs allowed on a leash. Please realize , there is wildlife that come through my property often, such as deer , rabbits, wild turkeys, possums , red foxes, raccoons, even an occasional coyote, so it is best that pets (or young children) are not left unattended.
The fall is beautiful leaf-peeping season here.
I have concord grape vines that are usually ripe by September or October, that you are welcome to help yourself to. (I harvest some of them to make my own jams, but you are welcome to whatever I don't, or the animals don't, help themselves to)
I also end up with a field of Japanese lanterns that are wonderful for cutting and drying and putting in floral arrangements.
I am just outside the village of Cobleskill , which contains plenty of restaurants , diners , a Walmart, Dollar General, Price Chopper grocery store, SUNY Cobleskill, Howes Caverns, and even a small local movie theater.
Although just outside the village, I do have a few neighbors and ask that you are respectful to them please, with no loud music, partying , excessive drinking. Quiet time between 9 p.m. to 8 a.m.
I do have my own 22 foot Skoolie parked alongside the blacktop driveway where you would park your vehicle, (unless on the grass lot) which I can move, if you need me to, so you have more room to park.
I ask for at least 24-hour notice, since I am frequently traveling, so if I'm not there, I may still be able to have someone over see your stay, and make sure things are set up for you.
***if you have any other questions, especially with all the COVID regulations around the country right now, please feel free to contact me, and I will try to get you the most current information for our area.
Thank you, and please feel free to just come and relaxed.
Excessive drinking, partying, or loud music.
Although smoking on the property is allowed, it is not something I am thrilled about, and I ask that you please do not use my property as an ashtray, since I am right on the border of woods. If I do find that you are throwing used cigarettes around my property, you will be asked to leave.
If you do have a dog, please clean up after him or her. Please make sure your pet is always on a leash , either a hand leash or a ground leash, as neighbors do have dogs as well.
Quiet time is between 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. Please no generators during this time.
During Hunting Season: NO hunting is allowed on my property's back woods. Any guns/bow and arrows/ weapons , are to be securely Locked Up in an appropriate storage box within your vehicle at ALL TIMES, and are NEVER to be brought outside your vehicle onto the property. You WILL be asked to leave IMMEDIATELY, if you fail to abide by these rules. Safety is not a joke.
All I ask is for common sense and respect for my neighbors and I, and for you to enjoy yourself while you're in the area.
If there is anything I can do to help assist you while you are here, please don't hesitate to let me know, otherwise I will pretty much stay to myself, to respect your privacy.
My field has room for 35+ feet, and I Will Accept Larger Vehicles, if you feel you are crafty enough to pull them into my field, or driveway, being that the turn into either is a little tight off of a paved country road
If you can't , there is a Walmart within 5 minutes of my house, that is very accepting of overnight vehicles. There is also a park and ride within 7 minutes from my home, with a Stewarts across the street from that lot, right off of
Pull through parking on lower lot only, not on driveway.
Parking is on a blacktop driveway. Or on the lower/upper grass field - if dry. It is on a rural blacktop road on a hill.
Turn into the driveway is a little tight. I have had vehicles up to 35 ft manage to pull into the driveway. Driveway does have a slant.
** PLEASE BE AWARE***
if you try to access the driveway or the field coming down the hill (turning Right into property), you will probably Bottom Out.. (Yes,,it HAS happened..and it's not pretty). It is BEST to ENTER Coming UP the hill, keeping my property on the left side and then left turn into the driveway or field.
The field entrance is BEFORE my house/driveway when coming UP Quarry St. The driveway entrance is AFTER the house.
** it is best to enter Quarry Street coming from either North Street or North Grand Street, (routes 145, 7 or 10)and then proceed UP the hill on Quarry Street.
tow vehicle can be parked on lower grass lot, (when not soaked wet from rain or snow)

My host was more than generous and reassuring, knowing This was my maiden voyage and first stop with Boondocker's welcome. She was responsive every step of the way and greeted me when I arrived ,helped me park and offered me anything I needed to be safe and comfortable. I will always remember this first stop And in a strange place towing my new teardrop. Thank you so much for making the beginning of my adventure a positive experience.
Couldn’t ask for a better stay - a beautiful, quiet location and a kind, friendly, helpful host. Highly recommend!
Very kind, generous host. Gorgeous, quiet spot to stay. Definitely follow the detailed directions provided in the profile, even in a van (albeit a long one) I was glad I went the direction Darby recommended instead of following Google.
Great host, good conversation, everything you need for a very pleasant boondocking experience.I would love to get back there at some point.
DarbyR84 was very communicative and helpful in getting us to her lovely place. We enjoyed the beautiful scenery on the drive in. Her spot is super cool with a fire pit area and shed that she creatively turned into a beautiful little haven for travelers. She has a skooly that she’s working on that’s really neat to see too. Our 5 year old daughter shares her love of animals and they really hit it off; she’s great with kids! Follow her entry instructions and don’t listen to google maps for the best parking experience!
My host is definitely a new friend. We got along so good and she and I were singles girls fixing things. It was very satisfying. We had lots of great conversations. Very much in common. Will definitely stay in touch. And, the property is so beautiful with multiple spots to pick from. She is so sweet and accommodating, offering such cute little amenities in her cute little shed. I highly recommend this amazing host for a relaxing visit.
Host was very helpful and kind. A lot of space on the grass in a beautiful scenery in fall. Lovely person
A short but lovely stay in Cobleskill, wish we could visit longer with our wonderful host.
