We live on the edge of the Chequamegon National Forest where there are over 800,000 acres of forest land. Our property has 40 acres. The boondocking site is on the edge of our property away from where we live, giving everyone privacy.
The area has many forest roads and trails for ATV's during the summer, and snowmobiles during the winter. We live across the street from Long Lake, which provides a swimming beach, picnic areas and pit rest rooms. There is a hiking trail that goes around the lake.
Closest towns are Washburn (6 miles), Ashland (15 miles), and Bayfield (20 miles). Local restaurants and grocery stores are available in each of the towns. The closest Walmart is located in Ashland. Memorial Medical Center has hospital and emergency facilities also in Ashland.
Cell Phone signal can be spotty in our area. AT&T has the best service. Verizon is sporadic if you move around, or if you have a cell phone booster. T-Mobile and Sprint have no coverage around our area.
Please be aware that we do live in the wilderness, which means that during certain times of the year, especially during the spring after the rainy season we have mosquitoes and ticks. Ticks appear in May through late June, and then again in the fall. We do spray the camping site to control mosquitoes and ticks but your camper should have good window screens for your comfort.
No drugs or excessive alcohol. No fireworks. No campfires as the area tends to be very dry in summer.
Please try to be respectful and keep the noise to a minimum after 10 PM, however you may run your generator at any time. You will be far enough away that we will not be able to hear it.
Remember that this is real wilderness. There are wild animals in the area such as bears, coyotes, deer, wolves. Do not leave any food out at night. Keep an eye on your pets and clean up after your pets. Please leave the site as clean or cleaner than you found it.
Because we are booked back to back most of the time. I ask that you leave by 2 pm on your departure date. And arrival at 3:00 pm or later on your arrival date. If necessary, you can check with us and if nobody is booked around your scheduled visit, you are welcome to stay later or come earlier.
If your plans change, and you decide to leave earlier, kindly let us know in case the next guest wants to come earlier.
Paved road to camping spot. Fairly straight road to our property. There are a few signs that say dip/bump. Use caution and don't go flying over them. Not much traffic on Wannebo Road.
The boondocking spot is very level.
DO NOT USE OUR ADDRESS ON YOUR GPS. It will not take you to the right place. It will also want you to take short cuts which will put you on national forest roads, many of which are not paved and difficult to travel with a camper. If using your GPS, enter Washburn WI, or the intersection of Wannebo Road and Highway 13.
Once you get closer, follow the provided directions or use these GPS coordinates to get to the boondocking site: N 46.65869 W 091.04503
Yes there is plenty of space for your tow vehicle. Either in front of your rig or beside it on a dirt path that leads to our place.
We are available during the spring, summer and fall months, and by special arrangements during the winter. While we can provide in special cases water and electric at our "house", the boondocking site does not have electric or water.
You can get drinking water at the many artisan wells in the area. You can also dump at a local camp ground for a fee.
We have one site. But we can sometimes accommodate more in different areas of our property.
Lake Superior and the Chequamegon Bay are the main attractions with opportunities for swimming at the beach, fishing and boating. Bayfield is the starting point for visiting the Apostle Islands. Some of the shoreline is rocky and contains caves. Kayaking tours to the caves and the area are available through different local outfitters. The area has many hiking trails and water falls to visit.
The Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center offers many exhibits and information about the area.
During the winter time the area offers ice fishing, snowmobiling and cross country skiing. There is also an annual dog sledding race. There are ice caves which are sometimes accessible by hiking on the frozen lake. This is a rare occurrence and when it happens, this area gets many visitors. There is also an ice road that is maintained by the state going to Madeline Island.
Although we have never had guests during the winter time, we do have the ability to provide a camping spot during winter and have equipment to clear snow.
The name said peace and quiet and it sure was... how wonderful! Pushed back off a quiet road with a nice lake within walking distance and all towns are within 30min.
Our host came by and check to see if we needed anything and provided some local knowledge.
Hope to come back sometime.
Kind accommodating hosts with a beautiful property! We will definitely be back when we are in the area. Thank you!
Nice quiet spot just a few miles from the shops and activities in the Bayfield/Washburn area...Nice Forest Service Day Use area just across the street that has picnic tables and grills, Nice sandy beach and beautiful trail around the lake..
Gina and Jim greeted us the day we arrived to make sure everything was good and answer any questions we may have, very nice! This spot is quiet, close to Long Lake and Lake Superior/ Chequemagon Bay, we'll be back!
Nice location in the trees and across from park with a beach. Make sure to check out their guest book and fill out a page with your experience. Directions to the site were spot on. Thanks so much for hosting us. Don't miss visiting Bayfield such a great town.
We really enjoyed our nights here and Gina and Jim were great. The road had much more traffic than expected but it was very quiet after dark. We will have to come back and explore more.
We love boondocking with Gina and Jim! Site was level and had a few blue berry bushes! They were so kind and prpvided us with a list of reccomendations in the area. Our kids loved playing at Long Lake which was gorgeous and the food at Cocos was so good! We hit the artesian well in town too. Loved the area and it was made even better by wonderful hosts!
We enjoyed our stay at Peace and Quite and it does live up to the name. Jim welcomed us upon arrival and got us settled in. The site is tucked into a clearing with woods on 3 sides, right along Wannabo Road. There are ATVs but none of the road noise bothered us at all. Gina prepared a written list of information, directions and things to do which was extremely helpful. You are about 10-15 minutes to Washburn, which was a delightful small town. and 15 more minutes to Bayfield which was a lovely, charming waterfront town. We took our bikes on the Madeline Island ferry and road to Big Bay State Park, along the waterfront and back to town. We actually lucked out and caught the local 4th of July parade. We also took the Grand Tour Cruise out of Bayfield to the Apopstle Islands....if you do this (highly recommend) sit on the left side of the boat for the best overall view. There were three of us all traveling in our own rigs and were able to tuck into the site comfortably....I think this worked best because we were all friends!
Great location; peace and quiet. Beautiful pine forest. Close to lots of places to adventure. Hosts provided a paper with activities in the area. Loved it here.
A private spot tucked in on the edge of the Gina-Jim’s property with plenty of room to park. They provided excellent directions to their property — following them, it would be hard to get lost. We backed up our small 5th wheel all way back to the picnic table to have the maximum setback from the road. Jim stopped by with an info sheet of area attractions & services compiled by Gina. We particularly liked the information about the artesian well where we filled our water jugs. There’s a lot to see & do in the area & we definitely would recommend this stop.
Enjoyed our stay. Very private, wooded spot near the Apostle Islands. We absolutely loved the detailed communication and met the host shortly after we arrived. Had a typed up sheet with tons of useful information even for our pet:). Yes, cell coverage is spotty but just moving around a little bit we got a direct line of signal and actually had decent ATT coverage! Definitely would stay again.
I've always loved this area and have been hoping that more BW hosts would become available!! The directions given to finding Jim and Gina's place were spot on!!! I had very spotty cell service (Verizon) when I arrived so stopped over to inform them of my arrival. Took the next day to explore and hike around the lake across the road from my boondocking site. Nicely maintained picnic area, beach and trails. Enjoyed my first wknd. of the concert season up at Big Top Chautauqua and the beauty that surround the Bayfield area!! Hope to do more of it throughout the summer!!! Great boondocking site that's close enough to enjoy all that the area has to offer!!!
Excellent directions to that place. Could have not been any more peaceful and quiet, surrounded by forests. I met one of the hosts, very friendly and well coming. Thank you again!
Could not have asked for better! This is only our second stay with a BoondockersWelcome host and I have to say the bar has been set high. Very quiet, peaceful and secluded. Located near all the areas attractions. A beautiful area for hiking, biking and kayaking and we did it all. Must does are the hike to Lost Creek Falls and Houghton Falls, the ferry to Madeline Island and best of all kayaking the sea caves.
Gina was easy to communicate with and the directions were spot on. Jim met use when we arrived and provided useful information about the area.
We stayed two of the three nights we booked. Unfortunately it was unseasonably hot and the mosquitoes and ticks came out in force! No fault of our generous hosts! The site is private and we had whip-poor-wills and barred owls to listen to as well as the drone of mosquitoes. Ticks are a bit more worrisome as they are associated with Lyme disease. We couldn’t get in or out of the rig without picking ticks..
Jim-Gina were great hosts. This was my first boondocking experience and I loved it!! Unfortunately, my trip was delayed and I arrived a day late. I would have really enjoyed making full use of their space. Jim and Gina were excellent with communication and very patient with me as I learned the ropes. As an added bonus I was able to meet there furry friend Bella, a gorgeous white 9 month old samoyed puppy. Next time I travel up that way I would love to stay at their site.
As a gesture of appreciation, I have extended an offer to them to came stay at my AirBnB in the twin cities on me. I am super impressed with this site and the kindness of others in sharing their space to bring happiness to others!!
Love the area and these hosts are awesome! I spent my days riding my bike in the area and had a massive site to myself at night.
The hosts had an information sheet for me about the area which was very thoughtful and many recommendations on places to visit.
Thank you so much for your hospitality!
What a perfect overnight spot, complete with a picnic table. Long Lake is nearby with a walking trail.Unfortunately we were unable to meet our gracious hosts, as they were traveling too. Thank you for allowing us to stay anyway.Once we found the reflectors and warning triangle, there was no question we had arrived. Even using the coordinates we were taken on all kinds of unpaved roads and incorrect location, although we were close! Leaving on paved roads took us to Hwy 2 much faster! Thank you for a great stay! Hope to meet you next time!
Gina and Jim have a sweet spot set up for their guests! This is a wide, long site with woods on 3 sides (nothing overhanging, nothing to worry about!). You can park in as far back as you like - we chose to back our 31’ Class A so that our front end was about 60’ from the road - but there was stil plenty of room behind us. They have even placed a lovely picnic table at the rear of the site - totally unexpected, and a nice touch!
Gina graciously emailed us lots of local info, including where the nearest hospitals and vets are (that is something I would totally want to know, so thank you for that!). Her recommendations included spending time at Long Lake (it was a great walk around!), seeing the town of Bayfield (lovely, and we did an Apostle Island cruise, too), and the Washburn restaurant called Coco’s. Gina, despite their not having fries, lol, we loved their food and ate there both Saturday and Sunday.
Our cat also loved this site, and sat on many a tree stump, just looking around.
Our only regret is not having met our wonderful hosts. They had allowed us to stay while they were out of town - so we hope to come back in a “normal” year and thank you for your kindness in person.
We enjoyed ourselves very much! Very nice site, with lots of local activities. Loved hiking the lake near by. Hosts were wonderful people. Appreciate all the activity info provided.
Gina and Jim were extremely accommodating and welcoming!
They were knowledgeable about the area and made our stay very comfortable!
Gina-Jim are fine folks! This is a perfect place to stay to enjoy the Washburn/Ashland area! Washburn has a wonderful laundromat and car wash that are right next to one another...perfect for multi-tasking! Long Lake recreational area was right across the street from the camping spot and has beautiful sunset views over the lake. The hosts directions are perfect and really...you shouldn't trust your GPS. It's 1.5 miles down the road past where the GPS says they live! It's perfectly marked and Gina walked out to the road to help me back in. They were perfect hosts and stayed in touch throughout my stay. I just happened to be there when Gina had a litter of puppies and I was able to get in my puppy fix! I would highly recommend staying here if you want to visit the Apostle Islands.
Sure was peace and quiet sitting next to the pines with the wind blowing through their limbs! Site is right beside Long Lake Recreational area and very close to the quaint little town of Washburn with places to eat, Coco's for delious pastries, hiking and plenty of water activities. And driving north to Bayfield offers artesian shops, the Apostle Island Cruise Tours and much more! Our host shared with us things to do in the area, and a fact sheet for our reference. We enjoyed talking about each other's journeys, just good down to earth folks!
Wonderful people as we were met by G at our place to park. She gave us lots of information about the things to do in the area. Invited us to meet her dog! She asked why we were only staying 1 night. I said we didn't know that there was so many things to do in the area. She said we could stay another couple of nights and we did.
Thank you for a wonderful experience!
Allen and Kay
Peace and Quiet doesn't begin to describe the setting. I felt like the envy of the whole RV world! Because of the coved, I only spent a brief time with my hosts but I found them gracious. I'd love to go back in the future!
Our plan to stay in Bayfield didn’t work out. I contacted Peace and quite and as luck would have it they had a cancellation and told us to come on over. Not sure we would have found a place otherwise. She met us at site and made sure we got settled in and gave us info on the area. Didn’t get to visit much due to circumstances but hosts were great, site was great, location great, would love to come back and spend more time getting to know them in the future.
Surrounded by beautiful, scenic Wisconsin, this little BDW gem is tucked back off the road amidst the trees and ferns with Lake Superior a mere 6 miles away. Perfect location in midsummer if you're into watersports and if not, the drives through the idyllic countryside are nothing less than wonderful.
Our hosts made our stay all the better by delivering as advertised- Peace and Quiet.
They were warm and engaging yet mindful of privacy and space. We discovered the needle crafting talents of our host and now rock an adorable seatbelt shoulder strap on the Mrs.' side! (Thanks, G!)
We highly recommend this BDW location to anyone who just wants to immerse themselves in the amazing world of the Wisconsin Northwoods!
We enjoyed our 5 night stay with our gracious hosts. The site is secluded, with a non-existent Verizon signal and a weak but usable T-Mobile/att signal. We enjoyed bicycling to see the murals in Ashland. Kayaking the coastal caves off of Meyers Beach at the Apostle Islands National Seashore on Kake Superior. The Bayfield Fruit Loop to visit farms for fresh produce and to pick organic blueberries. Took our RZR on the Beautiful Valhalla OHV Trail right down the road. And got to hold an 8 day old puppy!
The boondocking site is so quiet and private and hosts are very pleasant! We would stay again if in the area.
We spent 2 nights and it was perfect! We were camping with our 8 year old grandson and we wanted to be close to Bayfield to take the ferry over to Madeline Island so we could do some biking. It is only a short drive to get to Bayfield from the site. We met Gina when we first arrived and found out that it was a short (1/4 mile or less) walk to a beautiful Wisconsin lake (Long Lake) and a great sandy beach. It was hot so we all went swimming both nights and it was wonderful. Jim and Gina are great hosts and gave us printed information when we arrived. DO NOT use your GPS to find the spot or to leave for your next destination. Jim saw us drive past their place with our travel trailer and actually chased after us to let us know that if we continued the way the GPS was taking us it would be a ruff go of it. We can't wait to swing buy again in the future to stay. Jim and Gina also had 4 day old puppies when we arrived, which made our grandson so excited.
I did not get a chance to meet Jim, but Gina was so amazingly NICE and hospitable. The address does not work on Google so I recommend you follow Gina's directions about how to find the spot.
The spot that I stayed on was very nice and far enough away to use my Generator, so that worked out very well. Gina supplied me with a very nice resource page to help me find local things in the are like Artesian water and a place to for sewage. The area is very nice and has so beautiful sights.
On my last day there, they let me use a printer and scanner which was very helpful to me! I did meet the white dog in the picture and she is very playful and sweet.
I was going to stay a few extra night but had to get back home earlier than I had planned. I recommend staying at a local RV park for 1 night, so that you can fill up with water and dump off trash. Then Gina can help you locate the sewage pump out and Artesian water.
Great experience and I am very grateful!
We spent two nights at Gina and Jims. There had been some mix up with our reservation as someone already had the camping spot so we were put closer to their buildings but under some pine trees. A great spot overlooking a small open grassy area where we saw some deer one morning. We were met at the driveway by Jim and Gina and they gave us options on where we could park. They were great hosts and they have a very quiet out of the way spot.
Great location, plenty of space and quiet, and incredibly kind hosts who even gave us a great list of local attractions. Thank you!
Our hosts have gone out of their way to see that we not only had a great place to camp but it showed us amenities in the area as well as gorgeous spots to visit. Definitely quiet and peaceful!
Thank you for sharing your woodland spot with us! It was a perfect location for exploring Washburn, Ashland, Bayfield and the Aposotle islands.
An easy drive to everything, yet secluded.
We had a fantastic hike to Lost Creek Falls, in Bayfield County, well worth it.
Friendly host and a warm welcome.
Gina-Jim saved us! We contacted them just hours before and they said, “Cone On!” They were so helpful. getting us to the spot. And, what a spot it was- lovely! Level, private, peaceful and quiet!!
Exactly as advertised and easy to find. Great location near the Apostle Islands. Overall a great experience and thanks for letting us stay.
Lovely hosts! Beautiful property! Close to Apostles Islands. This was our first BDW property to stay at and it was an amazing experience! We can’t wait to come back when it’s warmer to explore some more.
This is one of the quietest places we've stayed, it's right off a main road, but very lightly traveled in mid-September.
Gina-Jim were great hosts, they even gave us some brochures on the local area.
Just a short drive into town to Kayak around the Red Cliff's (we did a tour with bayfield kayak).
Gina-Jim were super nice to talk to and we wish them luck with their new property and all the upgrades they have planned!
Lovely couple, sweet dogs. Your secluded rest stop is tucked away in the woods, beauty and serenity abound, short walk to a beautiful lake w a great sunset view. Hosts were VERY helpful about what to see and do nearby. lots to do in the area.
A private area for camping, just across from Long Lake. It's an easy 1.6 mile hike around the lake. Gina was very helpful.
We got in after dark and Gina was very helpful in showing us where the site was by driving to us. She was very friendly and had errands for next day so we didn’t see her after that. The spot with gorgeous with so many stars in the sky! There was no ambient light from electricity anywhere in the area and very few cars going by. Wonderfully peaceful.
The spot is aptly named. It was quiet and peaceful and it was a great base for our Apostle Island excursions coming from Duluth. The hosts welcomed us and showed us around. The directions were right on and the spot was easy to find. It is convenient to Ashland, Washburn and Bayfield. The spot was leveled and we didn’t need to deploy our levelers. Overall a great experience and thank you for hosting us for a couple of nights.
Justus4250’s place is beautiful and quiet, exactly as advertised. A short ride to town with a beautiful view of Lake Superior. Super nice, friendly and helpful, we will certainly stop in the next time we are up this way! Thanks so much!
Thanks to Justus 4250 for such a wonderful stay. The space was peaceful and was within walking distance to activities including a beautiful lake, beach and hiking. Thanks for your hospitality!
We were greeted warmly on the road as we came in. We were directed to our spot and it was very straight and level. We had a very quiet night! Definately would recommend for a stay close to US 2, Ashland, and the Apostle Islands. Thank you for your hospitality and good luck with your future endeavors!
The hosts here were very welcoming and provided us with great suggestions for what to see in the area as well as brochures. She showed my kids where to pick blueberries, let them pet her beautiful dogs, and had rock painting set up. We were totally unfamiliar with the area, but have definitely put it on our "need to return" list. This was an easy boondock site to pull in and out of even with an almost 40-foot rig. There are artesian wells in the area and a nearby campground where you can stop in for showers and Wifi. I didn't have cell service at the site, but I kind of prefer that! It's nice to disconnect for awhile. Driving down their road and coming over a rise and looking out over Lake Superior: WOW!
We had a great time visiting with these very friendly new hosts. Enjoyed watching the deer romp around in the mornings and evenings. Beautiful views And I enjoyed listening to the wind chimes. Be sure to visit Houghton falls preserve For an interesting hike through the ravine and out to Lake Superior. Hope to meet up with them again in our travels.
Our hosts were great people and we were surrounded by nature. Thank you for letting us stay
