Larry and Shirley are two of the loveliest people - ever! Their hospitality is legendary (just read some of the other reviews!) and my experience confirms what others have said. Their property is drop dead gorgeous (especially right now - late September - peak colors), they are great conversationalists and are happy to share their knowledge of the area, and lastly and most fun, is the fact that this lovely couple shared coffee and the BEST blueberry muffins anywhere!
HUGE thank you to the both of you!
Had an amazing time!!! Beautiful, private location. Breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. Hosts were super friendly and accommodating, as well as letting us have our space!!! A hard combination to pull off. We had a great time driving and hiking in and around Central City watching the Aspens trees change color!!! Perfect trip in every sense. Will definitely come back.
Larryd and his wife were absolutely wonderful. They welcomed us on there property and made sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable boondocking experience. The views are gorgeous. Many hiking trails and we saw wildlife right outside our camper. Then after my husband had an emergency during our stay, they were so helpful and kind. They went above and beyond for us complete strangers. They truly know what it means to "love your neighbor as yourself". We were so blessed to have them that weekend.
Larryd and his wife were both super friendly and accommodating, always making sure we had everything we needed.
The property is beautiful and has an amazing view of the mountains, and there are tons of trails that are dogs loved to walk with us on.
At night you could see the beautiful stars and there were no city noises to keep us awake at night - we got some of the best sleep in quite awhile.
I really enjoyed being able to sit on the porch and chat with Larryd and his wife, who made some of the most delicious apple pie for us.
I cant wait to visit again in the future!
We travel full-time and it's very nice to find a spot to take a moment away from cities and campgrounds and others. Rocky Mountain High was the place. We'd left Rocky Mountain National Park and spent the day in Boulder in 95 degree temps. Honestly, we had no idea where we were headed when we landed in Central City. Gambling in Colorado? Who knew? We had a beer at a local establishment, then traveled to our hosts' location. By the time we arrived and were most graciously greeted, the temp was in the low 70's with a light rain falling.
While we didn't spend any time with our hosts over the two days spent with them, they were kind in offering us access to amenities and their lovely spot at 9,200 feet above sea level. Views are great and we couldn't have asked for nicer temperatures in late August, even if it rained a bit. We were able to get work done as our internet connection was great and the evenings were very quiet.
No doubt, one of the nicer places we've boondocked. Hopefully, should we be back through in the future we'll get a chance to become acquainted with our hosts. Recommended.
As others have posted, this is a great place to spend a night or two. We enjoyed visiting with our hosts and watching the hummingbirds. Our stay was very pleasant and we would 💘 to stay here again sometime.
This was our first experience and it didn't disappoint! The hosts were fantastic and the property absolutely beautiful. So much to see and do in this area-- we will definitely be back!
Had so much fun looking at all the views from this place. It was magnificent. Not to mention the owners were so nice to us. They loved our kids and let them play in a little playground they had created. They talked with them and joked with them. They hiked with us the area in the morning and we had some really great conversation. You definitely have to stop here when you can.
Larry and Shirley were in frequent contact prior to and upon arrival. Shirley met us the the driveway entrance and guided us to the parking area. What a beautiful view from their mountain top location. The breeze and cool temperature allowed us to sleep very comfortably without the air conditioning even in mid-August! Super hosts and a
memorable visit will be in our memories forever! Strong recommendations for this host site.
I am afraid they may have spoiled us for future bdw hosts. Very kind and hospitable. Beautiful property. Highly recommend!
Wow. The hospitality of these two are just wonderful. We enjoyed chatting with them and experiencing what it's like to live on the top of a mountain with spectacular views for two nights. Our daughter loved the swings and their dog. We aspire to be like these hosts some day. Thank you so much for everything!
FYI: Our Verizon worked well. AT&T was OK. Getting there was no problem. Apple maps was able to get me there with no problems.
This is conveniently located minutes to downtown Central City. The property is gorgeous with a rear porch that overlooks the continental divide. I found it a great place to hike with my dog also. The hosts are incredibly hospitable. I had water and electric with 75 feet of hose And a 50 foot extension cord. It’s inters to see the weather come in and out all day long.
We stayed for one night and really enjoyed the hospitality and gorgeous views
What an amazing experience! This property is honestly breathtaking. You feel as though you’re on top of the continental divide! The hosts were so genuine and hospitable. They have a gorgeous property with a couple of different parking spots, either of which are awesome. We couldn’t imagine a more beautiful spot or friendlier people. We hope to be back someday!
This was our first Boondockers Welcome stay, and we have to say -- we're big fans! A large part of that is due to Larry and Shirley's hospitality. Their kindness and generosity was exactly what we needed after a long drive. Both Shirley and Larry were incredibly helpful, allowing us to fill up on water and patiently entertaining our boys' endless questions about the property and nearby wildlife. We were even treated to a campfire cookout, which was the best kind of soul food. Such a treat! Their property is stunning, with beautiful views and a fantastic wooden playground for the kids. It was peaceful and serene, which is exactly what we were hoping for. There's no doubt that we'll request another stay with Larry and Shirley should we pass through this area again!
Hosts were away but allowed us to stay and we'd stayed previously but this spot never gets old.
Wow what a stay. So gracious and such a beautiful spot. I wish we could have stayed all day.
Host even provided some hot coffee and hot chocolate.
I can't wait to check it out again
Wow - what an amazing place. Gorgeous views & outstanding hosts. Very close to the historical towns of Black Hawk & Central City.
Our daughter loved their incredible playground with a teeter-totter & tire swing. I was so amazed by the home they built on such a special property. The hosts are so welcoming! We did a wood burning fire with s’mores and hot chocolate. We will DEFINITELY be back for another stay!
Highly recommend and very welcoming. Went above and beyond as hosts! Beautiful property overlooking the continental divide. Would definitely stay here again!
We had a fantastic visit at Rocky Mountain High, L&S invited us in for coffee in the morning and even offered to let us stay longer when a little snow and dangerous wind warnings popped up on our departure day. Will definitely visit again!
L&S are very kind, welcoming hosts. We only stayed one night, and they were kind enough to offer us amenities and anything we needed. It's a lovely spot - we are grateful! Thank you!
This was our first stay using the website and we are very pleased.
Beautiful mountain top location with easy access to hiking, cute small towns, and so many casinos (if that's your thing). Great hosts who took time out of their Saturday to show us around!
Our hosts were instantly like old time friends, they could not have treated us any better! We loved our stay at their gorgeous place, so peaceful and refreshing. We hope to see our new friends at our place in the near future!
Beauty and an extraordinary couple both interested and interesting. A delightful stop on our journey. You’ should be sorry if you miss this one.
This was our second stay at. "Rocky Mt. High" and it still hard to image a more Beautiful place to stay. Our hosts treated us like family, had us for dinner with their friends. Can't thank them enough for the hospitality they put forth. Do yourself a favor and try to make it one of your stops if you are in the area.
Larryd and his wife were very welcoming. I had a bit of trouble getting there and Larryd was willing to come help me out. Fortunately it all worked out. Their property is beautiful with wonderful views and my dog and I thoroughly enjoyed staying there. Central City old town and Black Hawk were interesting and fun to explore. I highly recommend Rocky Mountain High for your BDW experience.
This has to be the Best setting anyone could ever wish to stay at. As good or better than any National Park. Our hosts hospitality was second to none.
This was our first Boondockers Welcome stay and we can give nothing but praises to our wonderful Hosts. Central City and Black Hack are just minutes away, for your entertainment and more hiking than you can handle.
Do yourself a favor and make a point of staying at Rocky Mountain High, you will not regret it.
We were blown away by Rocky Mountain High. The property was easy to get to and absolutely stunning. Our hosts were accommodating and so friendly. The mentioned that they had recently been visited by a bear, which we were hoping to see, but we got something even better. A moose and her calf meandered throughout the yard, right next to our RV! We had so much fun watching them from our window. Note: If you're a large RV (fifth wheel or big A) navigating through town may be a challenge. It's a small historic town with small, winding streets.
We truly felt welcome and his property is gorgeous! they went above and beyond with hospitality and were very accommodating. I would definitely consider coming back and we highly recommend!!
