Have you stayed at this host location?
Leave a reference for this hostWe are in a quiet, wooded residential area just north of Red Sand Lake off highway 77. You will hear loons nearly all summer long echoing off the lake. We also host WarmShowers guests, so you may be sharing the yard with touring cyclists pedaling from the Headwaters of the Mississippi to New Orleans or coast to coast.
There is also a dump station (small fee) available at the Gull Dam (Army COE) campground within 5 miles.
The Brainerd Lakes area is a major tourist destination in Minnesota, with many businesses that cater to visitors. Loads of fun events and activities in the area in all 4 seasons. We're happy to point out local events and favorite spots for you.
Welcome to the Brainerd Lakes area! Our intention is to provide an overnight point for travelers en route.
Many people in our neighborhood spend their evenings outdoors, so please limit your generator use to between 5:00 and 6:30 pm. Quiet rules are in effect in the neighborhood from 10 pm to 6 am.
Regular household electricity (15amp) can be accessed from an extension cord in our garage. This will be enough to run small appliances, fans, fridges, but air conditioners may trip the circuit breaker.
Propane barbeque grills are fine. We marked "no barbeques" because we don't have a place to dump charcoal ashes
Absolutely no smoking on property.
Limited alcohol consumption is ok, but please no parties, loudness or rowdiness.
No drugs or illegal substances whatsoever. Anyone violating that will be asked to leave immediately.
We live by the camper's rule: pick up after yourself and leave the campsite better than you found it. :-) We expect you will too!
We are down a paved road in a small neighborhood off the main highway.
** Note our circular driveway has overhanging tree branches, so rigs taller than 9 feet will not be able to pass under the branches from the first drive entrance. If your rig is too high, you will be able to pull in to the 2nd driveway and then back out. (just won't be able to make the loop as you'd pass under the branches).
We have a circular drive. TVs should be able to fit in front of or behind your rig, just making sure to leave room for us to get out from the garage parking spots.
We do a lot of last minute trips ourselves in the summer, but feel free to give us a shoult and see if we can accommodate you.
There are multiple fantastic microbreweries in the region, the Paul Bunyan bike trail (100+ miles) is just across hwy 371, and we are within a few miles of multiple boat launches on the Gull Lake chain and our own tiny Red Sand Lake. We are within a few miles of some nice little short hiking trails and the in-town Brainerd Arboretum, with lovely walking trails. Rentals for fun toys (bikes, pontoon boats, etc) are available from many shops in the area. Live music in the summer runs the gamut from Norwegian folk festivals to acoustic Fridays in Nisswa to local cover bands to a classical concert series that runs all summer in the greater Brainerd Lakes Area. In addition to the Gull Lake chain of lakes and the Whitefish Chain of lakes, the Mississippi flows right through town (with several local boat launches). We are also within 30 miles of Cuyuna Recreational area, which means access to snorkeling, scuba, fishing, and swimming in the mine pits, as well as the nationally acclaimed Cuyuna Mountain Bike system of trails ("Shred the Red!"). Several excellent bike shops for folks needing service, and local RV service shops are available as well. Also great ER hospital service if you end up over the front of your handlebars :-o Loads of campgrounds nearby for folks who are looking to stay in our area longer.
