Have you stayed at this host location?
This site is at our river house (our local getaway!), The Steel Magnolia (ugly steel house with two magnolia trees in the front yard). It is located on Dog River and we have 170' frontage on the River. We have a boat dock (it is old...use at your own risk). Our yard water is from our well (safe to drink and taste better than most well water).
Since we have pet chickens and a working dog, no pets are allowed. Our gate is tied to our security system...so all guests must arrive by 6PM or before dark (whichever comes first). Monday arrivals must be in by 3PM. Departure times between 6:30 & 9:00. These times may vary and can be discussed as needed.
Since this is our river house...you are apt to see our stuff parked on site, boats, trailers, work equipment, etc. The Steel Magnolia is a work in progress. :)
We are close to I-10 & 1-65.
Travis & Kathy
No smoking on the property.
Clean up after yourself.
No Pets.
No children outside without adult supervision.
Alcohol in moderation only & no recreational drugs
Super quiet generators are ok.
"Nice" music outside is OK if not too loud!
No swimming in the River.
Do not feed the dog or chickens.
Our boat dock is old...use it at your own risk.
No dump station on site.
15 amp electrical & well water available (please consider a modest donation to help support our River project).
Sunset is a great time to take your chair down to the River, enjoy the scenery and a glass of wine.
Enjoying your outside meal down by the River is fine.
Outside cooking/grilling (your equipment) is allowed. Used charcoal must be extinguished & bagged for disposal.
Large trash can is available for typical garbage disposal.
Campers will have to back in from the street, through our gate and then straight down a concrete driveway. It is a bit tight. There is also a dip in the road at our driveway (super low-slung rigs may have a problem). If you are not competent in backing your rig and don't have a spotter with communication ability...entry may be difficult for you.
We live on Dog River. This is an old and depressed neighborhood...but still safer than most places. There are low hanging limbs that can be dodged easily.
On concrete in front of trailer.
No vehicle with leaking fluids will be allowed! (Trying to protect the River).
We travel a lot on the weekends so they are limited...but please check with me. I am not blocking every weekend on my calendar...again, check with me for Friday/Saturday boondocking. Monday arrivals will need to be in place by 3PM.
All arrivals, other than Monday, need to be in place by 6 PM or before dark (depending on the season). Departures after 7:00 AM unless otherwise directed or agreed upon.
Our main gate is secure, electric and we need to be available to open/close it.
Historic downtown Mobile, Battleship USS Alabama, Bellingrath Gardens, local water front areas.
We spent 1 night at the Steel Magnolia on our way west. Travis and Kathy were so warm and welcoming. We had a nice dinner with them at a local restaurant and Travis had lots of great camper tips for these newbies to trailer camping!
This was our first experience with Boondockers and it was superb! Any place else we stay is going to have a hard act to follow! Such a relaxing atmosphere and wonderful hosts!
We travel each year 4-5 months and do a lot of boondocking. And sometimes we come at a Very special place: good communication, nice talkings, friendly people, Great and peaceful place, nice drinks and a good diner etc etc. Steel Magnolia has it all!! Kathy and Travis thank you so much. Hope to come again when we come back to the USA. Love, Johan and Loes
We really enjoyed our stay at The Steel Magnolia. They are a friendly, fun couple.
They have a nice location on the river. These folks are also a fount of knowledge relating to health and many activities (see their profile). Hope to see them again soon!
