House Rules

We love to meet new people and share stories. You are welcome to use our grill (please refill tank if it runs out), fire pit, pool, herbs and kid toys. All we ask is you pick up after yourself and pets. Animals not allowed in pool. No Cats. We have a 26lb Schauzer that is old and doesn’t like hyper dogs. We will need to let them get to know each other on a leash. If you know your dog barks while you are gone please don’t leave them in the backyard. If you want to leave them in the yard ask first. We can not have your dog and ours in the backyard at the same time. I can shut the dog door and keep ours inside until we see if they get along. Ours is old and grumpy. If you want to use your grill and lawn chairs please do so in the backyard only. No smoking on premises. Pool rules include, no glass by pool, children supervised at all times, use bathroom outside that has no access to our home. No swimming after 10pm. You are welcome to hook up to our electricity in the garage and our hose outside by bathroom door but no generators. We do have seven bathrooms so if you would like to use one I am sure we can arrange it. We are offering you a place to stay as we know what it’s like to be traveling for extended periods of time and need a free place to park for a couple days. Many people have told us that our backyard is like a retreat so please enjoy it all you want. Hope to see you soon.

Retired teacher Details: During my summer break of 2015 I spent 56 days hiking and, tent or car camping in Washington State, Oregon, California and Colorado. Fell in love with it and decided to retire from teaching and start exploring. Of course on a teachers salary I had to watch the budget. Discovering at my age I need a toilet in the middle of the night I purchased my lovely Lilliputian (which means tiny) 15' Jayco Swift and travel 76 days with my then 21 year old daughter. After the loss of my father on Easter 2019 I realized life is short and to make the most of it. I purchased a 20ft KU Jayhawk bus and made it a camper. We have season football and basketball tickets so it double as a tailgating vehicle also. So far since April I have been to Europe twice for 30 days each, took a week trip on a motorcycle, and visited one of my daughters 4 times in Crested Butte, Colorado and it’s only October now. I now either car camp, pull Lilliputian or take Blupurr (KU Short Bus) and explore. Can't wait to see what's out there! My husband or one of my daughters or my 81 year old mom will sometimes come along depending on there schedules! Winston (Schnauzer will come any chance I let him). I solo travel when nobody in the family is available to go. Home Town: I live in Lawrence, Kansas when not traveling. Favorite Boondocking Locations: Don't know never done it yet! Skills or Expertise to Share: Retired 4th grade teacher so whatever that means! Probably means I can herd cats!

Cheryl was an amazing hostess! Very much went above and beyond to assist with anything that I might need. Happened to end up at her doorstep during some bad weather and let me stay extra time. I especially enjoyed conversing about her vast experience traveling. She gave me so many helpful tips and I'm very grateful.

Great spot for the night! Close to the I-70 exit. Cheryl was very responsive and proactive. Her location is close to the train tracks so expect some noise, if your like me the trains will lull you right to sleep!
