The house sits in front of a large pond. We have a floating dock that people love to take their morning coffee and sit still on the dock counting fish while enjoying their coffee. We are also within 15 km of 2 golf courses. (Pike Lake Golf Course and Mount Forest Golf Course) 10 minutes to Mount Forest to get a little shopping done.
We are non-smoking, but smoking is ok but keep your butts off our land, as we don't want to see them on the ground nor does the next Boondocker want to see them. We also don't need grass fires or barn fire, so smoke in or next to your RV.
Children are all welcome, but the property is not safe to let them roam as there is lots of water and horses for them to get hurt by.
Respect our land and keep it clean. We should only see your tire marks when you leave the area you stayed in.
If you would like to do something, ask and we may assist you.
No going into barns or buildings without someone with you.
We do have some watercraft which you are welcome to use but please check first in case there are issues with something or instructions needed. Bring your own life jackets (COVID)
The Access road is gravel. If you have a very large RV you may need to park in the front field which is open, so pull through is possible. This field does normally have horses in it, but they can be put installs for a night or two. Near the barn, there is room to turn around, and parking in the barnyard area is also OK but may need to move if other access is needed temporally but never at night and is not pull through. There is lots of room for wide turns. There is room near the house but smaller RVs can only fit. The roads/trails to the back of the property are narrow and small vehicles can get back there, but it would be your call after you walk the road. Trees will rub your RV, but the road condition is solid.
Anywhere near your trailer location selection. Depending on the location you would like to put your trailer/Rig there may be no room for your tow vehicle. Parking on the property is not an issue. There are only 2 spots with power, but the spot behind the house has the best power next to the solar array. The other spot has a weak 15 amp and is easy to pop the breaker. Even though I show there is no Pull-through parking. it is very easy to turn around in the main yard, but if you want a better view and better power you will need to be able to get out of the tighter area, but everyone so far has had no issues getting out. We had 3 - 30 foot trailers in behind the house and we got them all in and out with no issues.
Most of the time it's not an issue.
This year with Coivd I've been very busy with visitors which is why I'm now asking for hook-up cost as I'm seeing my bill has gone way up last month with visitors every weekend. Plus the price of hydro in the country is way higher than hydro in the city or in towns.
As we love to ride through the property with the horses, there are lots of trails to explore. The pond is stocked but it's catch and release unless your cooking supper that night for all. But check with whoever is home about fishing first. You can keep any sunfish you catch but the stocked trout/Bass are for my supper. LOL
Owner met us in the pouring rain to guide us to our sport. Perfect view of their personal lake. Unfortunately we were not able to stay as planned and had to pack up early in the morning and head out. Hopefully we can come again and enjoy the area.
Due to COVID travel restrictions in Ontario, we had to reschedule so many times yet the Butlers were so accommodating and fast to respond. We knew before we came that we would be in for a great stay! They were so welcoming and showed us their horses and cows. We made use of their many trails for hiking/exploring and definitely the pond for fishing (catch and release!). Our kids (grade school) had a blast and we will definitely be back again in the future!
People like the Butlers really make Newbies like us believe in the power of BDW and how wonderful people can be to complete strangers!
Great people on a great property. Very quiet with beautiful sunsets. A true cowboy and gracious hosts. Lots of fun in an interesting neck of the woods. Can't wait to go back!
This was our inital introduction to the aspect of Boondocking. Our time at TheButlers proved to be an excellent start with our Host provinding exact directions to their country location, and contact information. We were welcomed in person, and directed to a parking location that provided us with the scenery and quietness that was much appreciated after driving most of the day. We were invited to use the trails that circled the spring fed pond. Upon hearing of our interest in farms animals, our Host escorted us out to the pasture to get close with the horses. Would we return? Yes.
Exceeded expectations - quiet vast property, trails, horses, pond, and interesting, friendly hosts. Thanks so much.
Really enjoyable stay with the Cowboy.
We really enjoyed the wildlife, lots of woods right on the property to hike, with a very large pond. It felt like we were up at the lake !!!
He had 4 horses, a couple of cows, 2 geese, 7 goslings, and fish.
We also seen deer and a mommy fox.
I tried fishing in his stocked pond, and caught several small fish, catch and release of course, and it was fun.
bass and trout.
Upon arrival the Cowboy helped us hook up water and 15amp hydro, and also helped us back our trailer into a nice spot.
We would highly recommend this stay, and would love to return in the near future.
Our recent stay at the Butlers was very enjoyable, we were met by the host and he made sure we were all setup.
Over our stay we were fortunate to have some great conversations and had a guided tour of the wonderful property.
this stop will definitely be on our list for a return visit
Thank You a whole lot for the time we spent with the Host. We enjoyed our stay and we are happy to have
made a new FRIEND.
Very welcoming guests .
Beautiful pond on a horse farm ... they allowed us to drive one of their ATVs and have us a tour of their property .
Took us to feed the horses .
Let us use their paddle boat on the pond.
This was a great spot and a very friendly host. From the time we arrived until we left our host was very friendly and the location was terrific. Nice walking trails to just sitting with a view of the pond was very relaxing. Hope we get the chance to go back. Thank you for a great spot.
Very accommodating host. Bob made sure everything was in order for us when we got there. With his help we got the paddle boat out on the lake. A beautiful location. 2nd time around, loved every minute here.
Excellent time here, very hospitable family. Very warm welcome in spite of social distancing. Helped us get set up in the best way possible. Beautiful property and animals. They shared lots of travel stories and life experiences. A true cowboy that rides horses.(not sure why people who ride HORSES are called COWboys). Will definitely return again!
We had the fortune of a repeat visit to TheButlers. The peace and quiet of this country property, the ability to walk on groomed trails that led to beautiful sites after every turn, and of course getting to sit around and chat with one of the best host we have come across.
If anyone is looking for a place to decompress, or meet new and interesting hosts then I cannot suggest this location enough. There are plenty of things to do in and around the area from wineries, breweries, golfing and dancing just to name a few and only minutes away from town in case there is anything you need.
When we left we felt like we were leaving as friends rather than just Host and Guest. A heartfelt thank you goes out to TheButlers for the special treat you provided. I hope Mac got extra oats for putting up with me.
The Butler's were very friendly and welcoming. They offered us multiple locations that we could Boondock. We enjoyed the trails and appreciate the time they took out of their day to let us visit the horses. We would go again with no hesitation.
