I live at the edge of a national forest. It is not uncommon to see 10 deer grazing in the back yard. It is a very quiet neighborhood. Water and Electric available. Patio table, chairs, and BBQ available on porch. Propane refill available on property. If your rig is bigger, contact me to discuss. We may be able to accommodate you. Trash receptacle is on property. Verizon Cell Data is 2/5 bars here inside, 3/5 outside.
No smoking due to propane on the property.
Quiet hours 9pm-9am due to neighbors.
Small noise suppressed generators are allowed. (like the honda 2000).
Household electric only, only light loads allowed. Bring extension cord 50' min.
Pets are allowed, but there is no fence, so be responsible.
Please clean up after your pets.
Easy access from I-20 and LA Hwy 159. I have a paved driveway. Depending on your size, you may be able to pull thru park. If rig, is too large, you may be limited to backing in. I can assist if needed.
Paved Drive and also backyard parking available.
German Colony Museum; Caney Lake Recreational Area; Kisatchie National Forest; Downtown Historic Minden; Dorcheat Museum, Hunting, Fishing, Shooting Sports, Hiking, Biking, Numerous restaurants in area.
GC greeted us as we pulled into his hood and told us exactly where to park. Plenty of room to back in, not completely level but nice and flat. We had no AT&T service but he hooked us up to his WiFi without even asking. And offered his outside outlet so I didn’t need to run the Genny to heat up dinner and make coffee in the AM..Class Act. Got a real education on his passion of hot air ballooning. Was interesting to say the least. Would definitely stay again if we were passing through.. Thank You GC…
I really enjoyed my stay here! The quietest place I ever stayed. Very friendly and hospitable hosts who made me feel very welcome. Helped me with the complicated electronics player in my trailer, let me take a nice nap and then took me out for Taco Tuesday and good conversation. Excellent hosts I highly recommend!
This is a great spot on edge of the forest and a convenient location. Quiet neighborhood and friendly host. Thanks for the great stay!
Safe and quiet neighborhood. Howelldw is a nice host. Interesting conversation. Would recommend.
The host is very kind and helpful, and easy to talk to. I enjoyed my time at his place. Although the Germantown Colony Museum is small, it is well worth the drive. They have a lot of original artifacts and a few structures. Very pretty area!!
Our host was very helpful even though we were unable to talk to him face to face because of all the rain. The town looked like it would be beautiful. But we we were just passing through.
I appreciate the excellent communication of the host and convenient location of the property. It is safe and quiet. Only a few miles to and from I-20. A great boondocking stay.
Enjoyed our stay and meeting howelldw. Terrific host , accommodating and interesting . Great location in a very charming Louisiana town.
Thanks for having us and our pets
I booked this spot to be close to some friends who live about 30 minutes away. But only needed it for one night, but howelldw was flexible with my date luckily. I got a good nice rest and it’s a very quiet neighborhood with lots of trees. I got to hear about adventures of hot air balloon rides which was super intriguing. Thanks 🙏 😊
Dustin was very accommodating, kind, and interesting. It was a perfect spot for our overnight on our way to GSMNP!
Very welcoming and I enjoyed my stay. We had a great chat about life and would love to have stayed longer. Great parking area on the driveway.
Host was quick to accept my request to stay and was very accommodating. Thank you!
Thank you so much for allowing us to stay at your home. It was a lovely, quiet neighborhood. Great parking spot for our Class C RV on our way through Louisiana.
Lovely quiet place. Unfortunately our host was away - we hear he is a very interesting person!
I stayed one night at Germantown Colony and it was a quiet and safe neighborhood. I had to back down the driveway but took my time and avoided the gas meter on one side and the mailbox on the other. Communication was great and the host was great. A pleasant stay to take a break during my travels.
We had a great overnight here with everything we needed and a great area to set up. Our host was super helpful, even guiding us out in the morning so that we didn’t miss a great breakfast and affordable fuel. Great stay and many thanks!
Howelldw met me upon arrival and got me settled comfortably in his driveway. We spent quite a bit of time talking about a variety of topics including flying, hot air ballooning, medicine and the state of affairs in the field of medicine right now. Howelldw is an excellent conversationalist and a genuinely warm and welcoming host. I hope he visits me in Upstate New York some day. I may even consider taking flying lessons with him some day in the future. Would love to try to recover from a "stall" without pushing the throttle in and without soiling my pants:-):-):-)
We had a wonderful stay at Dustin's home! We had the pleasure of meeting his sweet mother and super cool girlfriend! It was so interesting to hear about their interest in hot air ballooning and the places they have been. The backyard is big and backs some seriously beautiful woods. We really enjoyed our stay and the company of our hosts! I hope your mom has a good time in Hawaii! Haha! Well wishes. :))
While Dustin was not even going to be home when we requested our stay, he still told us to come on over and make ourselves comfortable. I really appreciated his letting us Park in his driveway even though he was not going to be home. Nice quiet neighborhood, very safe and tidy. Highly recommended!
I contacted howelldw a day before I was wanting to boondock at his location. I was doing a hike up to Driskill Mountain, Louisiana's highpoint. His response was quick, & even though he would not there, he allowed me to overnight at his place. Very beautiful setting in a nice quite neighborhood outside town. Great stop & would boondock there again.
Good communication with the host. We arrived while he was still at work he sent us directions on where to park and told us to feel free to come when we needed to. Had problems using the wi-fi but not a big deal for us. We both own Casitas so had a lot to talk about on that subject. The area is very nice to look around in downtown. Caney lake recreational area is great for bike riding and had a good boat ramp for those who would need one. Would make this stop again
Thanks, again Howelldw
Dustin was very responsive to msgs. The parking in his driveway was easy for my class B and my dog really enjoyed his huge backyard and woods to run and play. Thank you for a good safe spot.
D graciously let me stay in his driveway with my bigger than his usual rig specification. When I arrived after dark, he guided me superbly in backing into his long driveway & made sure I was setup & good for the night. Wish I had more time & energy to have a chat, but D is surely a great host & the property is quiet & peaceful!
I had a great stay - quiet neighborhood, level driveway, and lots of knowledge from Dustin. He was helpful getting me backed in, set up, found me a place to refill my propane, and let me know about the trails in the National Forest down the street! I was able to catch up on work and relax after driving so much the week prior. Thanks again!
Dustin’s home is in a lovely, quiet neighborhood. He couldn’t be home but was very friendly and helpful via text. I would be happy to stay here again.
Howelldw was a terrific host. We don't know how there's enough hours in the day for him do do all he does.
We had a great time talking about his "balloning" travels, camping, flying, and everything else.
It's a very interesting area, with the Germantown Colony Museum, a great lake to hike and swim at nearby, plus another museum and eateries in town proper.
A big thanks for a couple of nice nights, we'll hopefully see howelldw again!
Had great chat about site and camping as we continue north. Hot Springs sounds great. Interesting hobby, hot air ballooning. Thanks for the use of your bathroom and carport as we only have a microliters teardrop.
We requested to stay at Germantown colony for one night as we were passing through the area. Although our host was not going to be home, he still answered and said it was fine to stay.
We found the property easily and backed into then spacious driveway with no problem at all.
Our host was also kind enough to offer electric and water if needed.
We went for dinner in town and met some very friendly locals in their 'Cheers' bar (El Jimador-Mexican restaurant)
The location is a safe, quiet neighborhood.
Thanks again for your generosity!
Dusty is a pilot for hot air baloons! My favorite. Beutiful quiet yard..deer came in at night. Nice easy stay. Thanks. Linda.
We had a great stay at this Boondocker site. Even though he was at work a lot of the time we stayed, Dustin was in constant communication with us and offered anything and everything we needed to have a great stay. It was a lovely community that we enjoyed walking around between raindrops. We also met Dustin’s mother, a lovely lady who stopped several times and even brought us farm fresh eggs.
Where do we even start? Dustin is the cream of the crop. You couldn't ask for a better stay, than what we got in Minden. Dustin replied almost instantly to our inquiry about staying with him. He waited for us to show up, even though we showed up later than planned. He accommodated every want and need we could think of. He gave us the guided tour of Minden. He told us all the best spots to check out, and eat. He invited us in for dinner, and showed us what he's all about. We felt like we were treated like family. We showed up as strangers and left as friends. We will definitely stop by again. They don't make them any better than this.
