Despite some technical issues with our motorhome, we genuinely enjoyed our stay. Especially enjoyed meeting our hosts and discussing everything from RV maintenance to gardening. We able to get a good night's sleep before heading out to our next destination!
My stay at DocNOlives was amazing! They helped guide me to my spot. The property itself had twinkle - lights, and a greenhouse that were so nice...
I felt right at home as soon as I arrived, cause they are super friendly. I highly recommend visiting if you are around KY. What a Gem đ!
Super friendly and accommodating hosts! We arrived during the work day so our hosts were not home but were kind enough to send someone down to ensure we settled in ok. Nice setting with adorable yard kitties đ± Host furnished a lovely in ground charcoal grill & picnic table on site plus 30A electric. Mammoth Cave National Park was about 45 min away so we spent the day exploring & retuned in the evening to our fabulous hosts ensuring we were set up with enough light to be able to comfortably see when we got back. Were able to chat briefly with our host just before departure and loved that they even had a guest book for us to sign. Great stay & lovely people. We hope to swing back at some point in the future to be able to relax & swap camping stories around the fire.
Our hosts were awesome!!!! location was easy to find. They helped with parking our RV and Toad when we arrived. Beautiful spot!! Enjoyed our time there. Checked Mammoth Cave National Park and Abraham Lincoln's Birthplace.
We will remember to stop again to enjoy more great conversation.
My husband and I stayed at Camp Carter while driving through Kentucky. They are wonderful Hosts and very welcoming! We were able to spend some quality time together and they were gracious enough to bring us to a local Amish Farm where we purchased many yummy treats! The RV pad is gravel and level. It is tucked back behind their home on a beautiful piece of property. The Garden area is amazing and full of every kind of flower and tree you can imagine! We thoroughly enjoyed our time with these Hosts and visiting Mammoth Cave, Lost River Cave and Shanty Hollow, while in the area. We had the added bonus of being there right after two Mama Cats had their kittens!! We really enjoyed playing with them. We also enjoyed the incredible fresh garden veggies and baked goods that our Host gifted us. You will not want to leave this Host location!!!
Enjoyed staying at this spot for a few nights. The hosts have created a little oasis with beautiful gardens, twinkle lights and a peaceful place to put our trailer. They were very gracious to offer power, a dump point and WiFi so we could plot out our next BW overnight. They have renovated their house and are working on another one next door. They seem to be skilled in just about anything they put their hands to! Highly recommended. Thanks so very much guys! Perhaps we'll see you on a return trip to Florida. Best, D & J
A great experience with wonderful people on a beautiful spot. Instructions were accurate. Loved the gardens and the cats and peacocks. Would love to return in the future.
Both accommodating and helpful! Hope to stay again and spend time with the Host!
We had such a wonderful stay! They have a beautiful property, nice level parking, and are so gracious to have electrical hook ups! We enjoyed chatting and having a yard burn roasting marshmallows! This is such a wonderful location in beautiful Kentucky to see Mammoth Caves, Lincolnâs birplace, and Bernheim Forest, as well as many other local attractions! We would absolutely recommend staying here, and would stay again in a heart beat! Thank you again for your hospitality!
Scott was very helpful with us settling in and made sure we were ok. We were self contained so didnât require hookup. The weather wasnât great so called an early night. We would definitely return! Many thanks.
This is our fourth time here. Great hosts, who are now friends. Good times. Very knowledgable about what to see and do in the area. And great places to eat. The hosts and their family treat you as you are part of the family. A must visit while in the area. Till we meet again.
Thank you, thank you, thank you
Several spots to choose from and willing to help out with any setup needed. Super friendly. We had a great time around the campfire and loved all the gardening. Occasional trains on the nearby tracks add a little excitement. Highly recommended location and hosts.
Another incredible stay at another incredible place with incredible people. We had an amazing bon fire and great conversation. We hope to meet them again someday.
Our hosts greeted us as we arrived. We enjoyed their hospitality and our overnight stay near the "she shed"
We just needed a safe place to park for one night between visiting Land Between the Lakes Recreation Area and Mammoth Cave National Park. This location was perfect and our hosts were super friendly and accommodating! We would highly recommend visiting these folks!
Enjoyed visiting with DocnOlive very much. Great property, level parking. Really appreciated all the local and area advice they gave too!
Although we did not stay at the host's home address we did boondock at their Convenience Store location. Large paved parking lot and we could fill with water. Met various members of the extended family and enjoyed visiting with all. We had vehicle issues the day we were leaving our host and family gave us contacts to get us going again. Kentucky will be remembered as a place of very kind and friendly people.
We had a great stay - directions were perfect, easy in/out, and the property is great - the kids liked playing on the swing and watching the cats. Hosts provided us with lots of good ideas for spending our time and we really enjoyed a pancake breakfast and parade in town before exploring Lincoln's birthplace and Mammoth Cave!
Thanks again!!
They are such lovely people, and let us come even though they would not be home till late. They asked their neighbour to come and make sure we were set up and settled in. Once they got home, even though they had lots to do after their trip, they took the time to visit and give my husband a tour of their classic car collection.
It was unseasonably hot and it was so nice to have 30 amp power for our air conditioning.
Spent 3 nights in order to visit Mammoth Cave. Docnolive were extremely gracious hosts and have really gone the extra mile to make your stay a great experience. Our cats loved watching their cats, peacocks and a guinea hen roam around the property. Will definitely stay again if we are in the area.
Made sure that we were totally set up when we arrived. It was way hot. Great spot. When loves trains. We had a great chat. While. Eating homemade cake. Great hosts
Couldn't ask for better hosts for my maiden RV trip. Will be back whenever I am in the area! Thanks to you both!
Had a the perfect spot for our 40ft Skoolie. They we're so accommodating because we were in a group of three. They made it happen and we're super welcoming. We even had power to plug in and keep out batteries charged. Will hopefully be back to visit then some time soon. It's not too far from town which has a Walmart. It's also very close to Mammoth caves.
CampCarter was a great site. DocnOlive were accommodating hosts that were willing to help a lot. They are centrally located within a couple hours of several attractions. They were patient with us as we had some complications on our way there. Iâd stay again if we travel through Kentucky and need a place to sleep.
They were awesome. They welcomed three of us traveling in our big rigs (one RV, two converted school buses, three tow vehicles, 3 kids and 4 dogs). We stayed for 4 nights and it was great.
Very friendly host . Picked up some gardening tips and a few places to visit on our trip. Was a nice level spot for our rig with no blocks . Had room on patio for few other Boondockers to visit and rest . If we are in the area we will be stopping again .
These hosts were so gracious and their little piece of property is amazing. They have gone above and beyond to make sure anyone staying on their property is comfortable and has anything they could possibly need. So accommodating. The only down side is the active rail line that is only a couple hundred feet away. But we got used to that pretty quickly. Highly recommend that you stay here if you can.
Huge thanks to this couple for providing a much needed sanctuary. Would like to have spent a litttle more time with you both but the summer heat kept deterring us. For you other travelers I have 2 suggestions: 1- enjoy the company and atmosphere here; 2- eat at Farmers Feedmill Restaurant! (10 minute drive to Leitchfield) totally worth it on both accounts
Such gracious hosts. DocnOlive made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay quite enjoyable. We spent a couple of days strolling this beautiful area and enjoying the peace and quiet . Loved the trains. We would recommend Camp Carter to anyone looking for that peaceful stop.
This is a beautiful spot full of flowers and trees and wonderful people (:
Best Experience ever! Had a great time and would definitely go there again.
Great hosts and lovely property with an awesome out side kitchen. Spent the last night sitting and talking with hosts about just about everything but she really loves her gardens which is all over the property.
Had a wonderful experience at Camp Carter! DocnOlive were fantastic hosts and the true embodiment of Kentucky hospitality. Thank you for introducing me to turkey ribs :).
DocnOlive, the hosts for Camp Carter have set an impossibly high bar for other hosts to strive for. What a delight getting the opportunity to stay at this oasis that they have created here over the last 20 years.
Camp Carter is what you get when you match a Master Gardner with a Mechanical Engineer. There is nothing these two wonât tackle (and most likely havenât tackled).
We were parked under a canopy of shade trees. Despite the high temperatures outside of this camp the breeze in Camp Carter always seemed cool and refreshing.
The first couple of days was spent with two other Boondocker guests that were here. At night we all sat around and shared stories. It was magical sitting under a small pavilion with colored blinking lights and Alexa at our command to play any music that we wanted to hear. This place is magical and enchanting. From a whimsical garden shed and greenhouse to an old fashioned boy scout tent appointed with camping gear from the 50âs to the magical pavilion area, you are transformed to another place and time. Cats, peacocks and a lone guinea hen that seems to think it is a peacock. At night the Whipoorwil serenaded us as the music drifted from the pavilion area.
There is a small grocery store within a block of their place, and I would encourage any newcomer to Kentucky to try the local soda that is made in Kentucky called âALE 8â. This has been a favorite in the area since 1926. We had to try all of the favors but agreed âThe Originalâ was the best.
Ignore the railroad tracks beside the campsite. Listening to the trains come through is a very small price to pay for everything that is bestowed upon you upon your arrival.
The hosts at Camp Carter go out of their way to make your experience unbelievable. It was a delight getting a chance to know this couple. My prayer is that our paths cross again and again. We came as guests and felt that we left as friends.
What an absolutely wonderful time we had at Camp Carter. We arrived exhausted and in need of a quiet respite. We had an extremely relaxing time in the breezing shadows of a canopy of trees that guarded a luscious garden of varying blooming plants. The other guest were just as much of a hoot as the host and a grand time was had by all as we shared adventures and laughed our butts off.
The hosts were extremely helpful in getting us situated into our campsite. They were helpful with information about the surrounding area.
We could only extend our stay one additional night but would have loved to have stayed much longer.
We stayed close enough to the railroad track to throw a cat into a box car but didnât have any issues as they only passed twice after bedtime and were extremely brief. Whoosh and they were here and gone before you knew what was happening.
The one really down side is that now I expect every other boondockerswelcome site to be as enjoyable.
Thanks!
Hosts are so very welcoming and gracious! Shared their outdoor living areas with us and their knowledge of the area. Great conversation as well. Definitely a place we would like to return to!
It was our very first time at a boondockers welcome host. It was a very nice experience to meet those nice people in a beautiful spot. Did everything right to join the boondockers welcome family and wishing for much more of those experiences.
Too short of a stay. Family commitments made us need to leave without being able to have more time with the hosts. Shame.
We had such a great time with Tina and Scott. We shared dinner and got more than asked. We would return anytime and hope to see them in Canada.
Camp Carter is an oasis waiting to be discovered. Top notch hosts who now are good friends. We have stayed multiple times with them. Friendly southern hospitality. Loves to garden, make crafts and renovate old houses. We love them to death. Thank you for another great visit.
Virginia and Bob
By far and above the BEST thing about BDW is meeting wonderful people and these guys are an example of the best. Friendly, helpful, I don't think there was anything we could have asked for that they wouldn't have done. Their place is a verdant paradise with beautiful gardens which will likely be lush soon, and their house is amazing! We were lucky enough to be here with another couple and an evening of board games and conversation was a delight. Having a dump station on site is just an added bonus.
A few people have mentioned the trains and they do come by close and loudly even at night but they are sporadic and even with our windows opened I went right back to sleep if it woke me. My husband slept through them. :-)
We've warned . them we'll be back
From the time we arrived and until we left we were treated with amazing hospitality đ
Thank you to our hosts for the very large Bonfire to keep warm and roast sausages, the invite to go with them for some great sushi and a wonderful shared dinner on our last night. Conversations were continuous and the cats were so cute. We would love to come back and see you again sometime.
Thanks for allowing us to stay!! we really appreciate it!!! great company , made us the best banana bread ever. many blessings towards you both.
Scott and Tina were wonderful. They accommodated us during a busy time; let us come in late and leave early and were so nice helping us get settled in the dark. They exemplified the Boondockerswelcome model.
Nice people, great place to stay! I hope we get to cross paths again when the weather is nicer.
This is our second stay here. Great friendly hosts who helped us out when our wheels sank turning. Make sure you follow his instructions. Lots of great conversation, meals together and the warmth that the hosts and his family give you make you feel like family. Thank you again
Everything I've read here is true. The hosts are warm, welcoming, and go well beyond a private place to park. They are a gem!
I highly recommend these hosts.
We were welcomed and given a nice level blacktop parking spot. After our long stressful day of traveling we were invited in for supper. We had a nice meal and talked for a few hours. The other few nights of our stay we didn't really see our hosts, but they texted every once in a while to make sure we were ok. Especially the last night when it got below freezing. Definitely stop here on your way through Kentucky. Its also about as close to Mammoth Cave National Park as you can get with boondockers.
With simplicity and warmth, Scott and his wife make us feel at home and are make sure we have all what we need. Very nice to be with them around the camp fire!
We stayed two nights, and wish it could have been longer. They are wonderful hosts. And the landscaping and patio areas looked like something out of a magazine, even with the leaves on the ground. As a bonus, (if you are into cats), there were kitties that could be sought out for kitty love. If you are not into cats, they will stay away, but I shamelessly pursued them until we reached an accord. We had great conversation, easy parking, an electrical hook up, access to the dump, beautiful surroundings, and an easy drive to Mammoth Cave. Thank you!!
I enjoyed my stay at Camp Carter. We parked beside a beautiful shed that looked like it was straight out of a magazine . The host was very nice and made sure we did not need anything. I stayed two nights on a nice paved drive and took advantage of the 30 amp hookup because of the dreary days.
Highly recommend. We throughly enjoyed our two nights at Camp Carter. Best dinner of our vacation was at Mikies in Bowling Green Ky. Having The Carterâs join us made it even better. Good food and better company. Life was truly good for the two nights we stayed. All the previous reviews are spot on. Thank you so much.
Scott and Doris
Thanks to Scott and Tina for being super hosts. Had great conversation for our short stay. Scottâs renovations on his Airstreams are amazing! Although we got there later than we anticipated, after dark, he met us and got us parked and set up. They are welcome to our place in Mississippi anytime! Thanks again, Scott and Tina!
I stayed at this location for 4 nights. The hosts are super nice and helpful, and offered 30 amp at no cost (I always offer) which was crucial because of the temperatures in the high 80s. There is a lot of room to walk and enjoy, and only 40 minutes from Mammoth Cave National Park! A loud train goes by a few times a day, but other than that, it was a pleaceful place to stay :)
I only stayed one night because i got stuck in Indiana in thunderstorms. They were so nice and accommodating. Beautiful backyard oasis. Got to see their airstream and box truck, which could be a camper too. Hooked me up with 30amp elec, parked in pull through flat top driveway. And they had a dump station. Would recommend to others and would stay again.
These hosts are wonderful. They were communicative and flexible. This host even met us at a local store to help guide us in. Their site was level and smooth. We had no problem fitting and we are 57' with truck and trailer. The train was such a thrill for our kids to see. We can't thank them enough for welcoming our family to their beautiful home.
We enjoyed our stay at Camp Carter. Our host ran an extension cord to our site so we could plug in and we also were able to dump our holding tanks, which was most appreciated. We would be happy to stay again when in the area.
Great hosts. We only wish our schedules coordinated better so we could have got to know them a little more. Next time.
Scott and Tina were fantastic hosts. Shared about thier rig. Stayed up talking til Scott had to go to bed to get uo at 5 the next morning. He even swapped out my extension for a heavy duty one as I rarely need an extension cord.

PROS
Our hosts Scott and Tina showed what Boondockers Welcome is all about: A chance to meet other like-minded explorers of our vast and complicated world. We talked at length about RVing, our kids, mechanics, gardening, Scouting, engineering, science fiction and our business history until 10PM several nights. I encourage other members to give Camp Carter a try.
We stayed three nights and were pleasantly surprised at the southern hospitality shown by our gracious hosts, Scott and Tina. It was Memorial Day weekend and they invited us to a party mainly for family members. They treated us like family and we got to know Scott and Tinaâs father, mother and other relatives. The food was so tasty, including some walnut pie baked by a close relative. Holy smokes, it was delicious!
I was in heaven because the campsite is 100 feet from a large salvage yard owned by our hosts. I was allowed to walk and drool over millions of auto, RV, boat and industrial parts. The salvage yard business is dormant. Not every camper may be comfortable with the salvage yard but since I am a motorhead, I loved it. Scott is a master mechanic, trucker, driver and computer-savvy mechanical engineer who can give expert advice on any type of rig. Our rig is a 1997 Foretravel U270 diesel pusher and Scott is as comfortable with itâs complex big-rig systems and he is with an Airstream.
We were offered a 15 Amp electric cord since it was 90 degrees F and high-humidity to run our AC. I declined since my rig may have overloaded the circuit or may have caused a brown-out in my rig. My rig has 1920 watts of solar, so we did not need power. I appreciated the offer though. There is a nice grove of trees, a gazebo and chairs to enjoy some peace in the shade. We were also offered water and a dump opportunity, which we also declined since we had plenty of water and capacity left in our waste tanks.
We visited a big event in Elizabethtown, KY, about 30 minutes away, called Barbecue, Bikes and Bands. We had the best pork BBQ ever. Never saw so many motorcycles in my whole life! All the chain stores and amenities can be found there.
Thanks so much for showing my wife and I the best of Kentucky hospitality. We would like to think we are lifelong friends.
CONS
Train tracks are about 50 yards away. It passed through three times during the night with the traditional horn with the Morse Code letter Q (Dash Dash Dot Dash). Then, during the Memorial Day weekend, it stopped...all quiet. Why the letter Q? It is said that old English trains passed near the Queen of England and, out of respect, sent the letter Q in morse code. Fun fact. ;)
Camp Carter provided a shady, fairly level spot, with electricity, water, kitties, and an occasional train. From there we were able to visit Mammoth Cave, and Bardstown and the Bourbon Trail, but Louisville, Bowling Green, and other locales are also close. Since they grew up in the area, our hosts, Scott & Tina, have a lot of knowledge of things to see and do. We had so much fun with them â they really made us feel like family and made our stay enjoyable! Oh, and if you like (sweet) wine, donât forget to try some from the Purple Toad winery in nearby Paducah! Hopefully our paths will cross with the Carters again in the future and we will be able to hang out with them some more!
Kim & Joe
Great experience. This was our first time ever boondocking and the host made it very easy and enjoyable. Thank you so much.
Tina & Scott are wonderful hosts, we had a great time sharing stories around the campfire. Their property is beautiful and very unique. The camper set up was fast & easy and we definitely enjoyed our stay with them. Thanks for a great visit, hope to see you again sometime in the future!
What a great secluded place to stay. Lots of room to park your RV and super hosts. One of the nights of our stay a couple of boondockers from Germany stayed as well. Had a great campfire with all and roasted marshmallows. We have so much in common with the hosts we wished we could stay longer. Hopefully next time. Thank you for all the ideas of places to visit and your great hospitality. Until next time
Virginia and Bob
We stayed at Camp Carter and we enjoyed. Scott was friendly and welcoming. It was very interesting to speak about travelling and RVing. He was very helpful to give us informations to continue our road trip. With Scottâs directions it was easy to back up into the parking spot.
We recommend Camp Carter and we hope to see them In Québec.
