We've got 3 "homebase" locations that we could provide overnight parking,
Southern CO., southern IL., & northern AZ.,
Location Is dependent upon where we are at the tIme.
Will probably be in IL until summer 2018.
1: Absolutely no smoking of any kind. Fire risk is far too high. There’s usually a fire ban in CO., due to the fire risk, so in CO., we cannot have outside bonfires or cooking fires/ BBQs. Only propane for cooking. We do have a wood stove inside with a glass front!
2: Pets are allowed & welcome to come, but they *MUST* be on leash at all times! No exceptions! We have bears, mountain lions, bobcats, badgers, coyotes, Fox, eagles, hawks... In IL., loadsof coyotes, hawks & owls. Also, if your dog is caught running loose, in *Either* state, chasing, harassing or killing wildlife, livestock of any kind, or other pets, by law, they can be shot, &it doesn’t need to be reported. In CO., we’re way back in the mountains, & we have mule deer, Abert’s squirrels, chipmunks, loads of hummingbirds & finches to watch that come right up to us, & I don’t want them barked at, or scared away. (& I’ve got a 5# Chihuahua)
3: You can run a generator, but, please, only as absolutely needed during daylight hours. We love the peace & quiet in mountains! We’re totally off-grid there, so it’s a very quiet cabin.
4: We Love kids, & they’re welcome to come! However, like the pets, you’ve got to keep them close by, & in sight at all times. Yep, the bears, mountain lions, coyotes, etc., would also love a kid snack! Yes, we really *Are* back in the mountains!😊
In IL., gravel drive... boondocking spots are gravel, or if ground is firm & dry, & you prefer it, there's a grassy area.
In CO., it depends upon the time of year. It’s all non-maintained private roads, sharp curves, way back in the Ponderosa Pines @ 8,500’...roads are sandy dirt/rock, you’d need high clearance, too... Probably only during the summer & early fall, as we get a lot of snow.
In IL., or CO., right on the property.
Availability: spring & a bit of summer we will be in southern IL. email & see if the spots are open! :-D We’llbe OTR ourselves for a vacation, part of Feb.
Regarding pets, yep, they are welcome, but MUST stay on leash for their safety at any location, as we have our own pets (in fenced yards) but also, there is a great variety of wildlife at each location. In IL., coyotes, skunks, possums & raccoons... In Colorado, all the previous mentioned, along with bear, mountain lion, coyotes, badgers & fox. You would not be able to tie them out,, or leave them alone outside at any location at any time for their safety.
Also, in both the IL. & CO. locations, please be aware that even tho both places are way out in the country, any dogs chasing wildlife, or any type of livestock, no matter if deer, elk, antelope, bighorn sheep, fox, anything, they are allowed to be shot, legally, by any property owner that sees them chasing. That's another very good reason to keep them on leash at all times. Keeps them safe, too!
In IL., The World Shooting Complex is only 8-10 miles away. They have a website listing their events.
Chester, IL., home of Popeye the Sailor-Man!
Just outside of Chester, the Covered Bridge.
And...if you like thrift shops, flea markets, &/or antique malls, we know all the good places!!!
