We have a small private ranch in between Austin & San Antonio in the Texas Hill Country - just west of Wimberley TX - complete with Longhorns, deer and all sorts of wild critters. This is our private residence; it has a security gate and plenty of country room.
There are several different places a 'Boondocker' can park overnight: In a manicured open field by an old iron gazebo and fruit trees; By the well shed (a bit more secluded feel); Along the gravel drive by the main house; or you can go thru the back gate to the pasture to a perfectly level area... or drive down by the pond and pitch camp - we'll let you pick what you want. We do have a spot with 30amp and water if you need. Just know that we are in the Hill Country so most places are not perfectly level; you may need to level out a bit for your stay. Campfires by the rig are welcome... and there's wood around the property. There are several great areas in the trees for the kids to pitch a tent of their own and be totally secluded... but still close by. No hour or age restrictions - you can come & go as you want while you're here. All we ask is that we have contact info for you, meet you on arrival and to show you around, and that we can verify your drivers license.
AT&T gets a good signal here; Verizon and Sprint are spotty at best. Please keep this in mind if you work from your RV. We do have a cell booster at the house so if you need to make a call, you can always use the back porch to make a call if you cant get a signal at the rig.
In most cases, you're OK to use the pool, hike through the trees, feed the chickens, watch the Longhorns, etc. There's even an outdoor archery range you can use if you are an archer (shots up to 100 yards). Please just ask us first, treat our home as your own and leave it all the way you found it.
Meet us on arrival, let us snap a pic of your drivers license, relax and enjoy yourselves... and leave the place like you found it.
In between Austin & San Antonio, just west of Wimberley... with easy access on main roads; there's a short unpaved (caliche) road to the gate but it is wide and well maintained. Main gate entry is wide enough for any size vehicle; back gate areas are best for 30' or less or smaller trailers. Gate code will be provided. Circle drive is up by the house (longer vehicles may need to back up once to make the turn). For larger RVs, travel trailers or 5th wheels, we are happy to move our RV and you can just park where we keep ours if you don't want to drive off the road a bit. We'll show em all to you when you get here and let you decide.
Toads can be parked right by your rig.
Available most of the time except late July/August (and you really don't want to be camping in Central Texas at that time of year anyway; way too hot, which is why we're usually at the cabin up north).
Wimberley - 'A little bit of Heaven'. Great shopping - in the 'Square'; Jacob's Well & Blue Hole - wonderful natural areas/water parks; Mount Baldy - see the entire valley; Many area wineries; Devils Backbone; Blanco River and so much more... in the epitome of a Hill Country Valley.
Loved our stay with Rustic Robert and family. Great country setting complete with chickens and longhorns. Another boondocker couple stayed at the same time as us and there was plenty of room. We enjoyed good conversation with all while sitting around the fire. So nice to start as strangers and leave as good friends.
We stayed, along with another couple and shared a fire with them one night. Robert and Andrea, our Hosts, made us feel very welcome and comfortable. Easy in easy out close to Historic Wimberley, a great town. All in all an great experience. Thank you Robert and Andrea.
We thouroughly enjoyed staying at Rustic Roberts place! It is a beautiful spot in the hill country and Robert and Andrea are as friendly as they get! We enjoyed going up on "Old Baldy" to see the view and also the fresh eggs! Oh, and thanks Robert for the directions on our way out! Hope we meet again.
This family was really welcoming. Thanks for everything, we had a very good night. This is a really good area. We totally recommend this family!!!!!
We had an amazing experience boondocking in their yard. The whole family is so friendly and inviting. When they say “make yourself at home” they mean it. Our boys explored the whole area, which is all fenced and safe, we had a fire, it was to cold to swim even though the kids wanted to. Robert knew the best spot for us to park and just how to position to create a great little spot. He is quick to respond which was great as we never had to be idle waiting not knowing what we were supposed to do. It was our first experience and will be nearly impossible to beat We can’t wait to go back!!
Robert and Andrea simply could not have been more delightful hosts! Robert greeted us at the gate, gave us a choice of locations, and even helped us hook up the electricity. We had them over for a most delightful evening where we shared stories and laughter. We learned that we have just joined an exclusive club...folks who spend a lot for a motor coach and then look hard for a free place to stay! Funny and so true! On our last morning there, we were treated to a tour of their gorgeous and authentic Texas ranch house, beautiful pool, and skillfully renovated RV. Robert and Andrea are truly the best of Boondockers Welcome. We highly recommend that you pay them a visit at their ranch in Wimberley, TX.
We stayed with Robert and Andrea for 4 nights and they couldn't have been more accommodating. We needed our bus fixed and they offered us their RV to stay in for the night which was just lovely of them. We watched the deer come out at sunset to eat snacks Andrea had left out and their daughter who does archery showed us how to do it one afternoon much to my younger daughters delight. A lovely quiet spot not far from the quant town of Wimberley, which has plenty to see and do.
What an outgoing, friendly host. He is my kind of person, he makes stuff with his hands. So enjoyed a tour of his shop. He extended an invitation for a third night and we were overjoyed to spend it there. Wimberley area is a wonderful place to visit but his ranch is away from any noise. Hope you can sometime visit us in Canada on your way back from Michigan. Thanks again
What a friendly guy Robert is! We scheduled ourselves to stay for 1 night, but after Robert mentioned all the different things there were to check out in town, and also shared a packet full of brochures about the different attractions around, we decided to stay another day and night, which he was totally cool with. Told us to come and go as we please, so he passed along the code for the gate to get in and out of the driveway. We met his wife the morning we walked up to the house to say goodbye and chatted it up for a while before we left. Lovely people, lovely dog, lovely land to park on and explore... we really enjoyed our stay here. Thank you!
Our stay with Robert & Andrea was beyond expectations. While staying with them we were treated to up close deer viewings, a warm and friendly dog, oh and warm friendly hosts too!!! Our hosts provided us with a complete information package of the area, complete with maps and brochures. A couple of days in this area is not enough to enjoy all it has to offer. Again thanks for the lovely site, water and electrical. See y'all again real soon, Bob & Monique
This was our second stay here and proud to say we have some new friends in Wimberley! "Rustic Robert" and his wife Andrea are our kind of folks! Friendly, fun, sociable, and just as nice as they come. Made us feel right at home. On a 1 to 10 scale as host we give 'em an 11 and 11+ as fine people! Kim & Joe
We stayed with RusticRobert twice, actually. He has a great spread of land with lots of options to park, and we were able to get pretty level without too much of a problem. He met us at his gate after dark and helped us get set up by providing lighting. We were able to plug into electric, which was awesome! He gave us a welcome email with wonderful pictures and directions so we knew what to expect, as well as some great RVer reference links and groups to look at! When we arrived, he also gave us a welcome packet with brochures and information to check out around in town! They are super into archery and have targets set up around the property, and he let us use some of his equipment to even shoot a few arrows! My husband is a touring musician, and Robert went above and beyond hosting to call around and get him a paid gig in town while we were there and tried to get him on the local radio station too! The second time we stayed with him, it had been a while since we had had access to water, and he let me take a shower with the kids in his house. His daughter even occupied the toddler by letting him paint her arm! She's so great with kids. The kids also had a great time saying hi to the cows and jumping on the trampoline. It was too cold to swim, but the pool looked amazing. I definitely recommend Robert if you are wanting to check out the beautiful Texas Hill Country and go Winery hopping!
We had the pleasure of staying with RusticRobert for 5nights through the Thanksgiving holiday. He and his wife were so welcoming, friendly and helpful. They greeted us on our arrival warmly and made sure we had everything we needed. They had multiple spots we could choose from to park the rig. They had a packet of local interest information to help orient us to the area. Their dog and our 2 dogs got along great. Their property is very picturesque and the local area has much to explore. I am truly grateful that our first use of Bondockers Welcome was so enjoyable.
Awesome Boondockers Welcome Spot! we really enjoyed staying with Robert & Andrea thy could not have been more hospitable we felt very welcome and safe at there place we enjoyed visiting with them too and only wish we could have stayed longer but Kristy had to work and mobile WiFi is week for Verizon.
My hubby & I were brand new to BoondockersWelcome and found ourselves in a bind. We reached out to RusticRobert late one evening and by the next morning we were on his land. Despite being under-the-weather, Robert was extremely accommodating, opening his gate for us, and giving us everything we needed. He and wife Andrea are very friendly and shared a wealth of information about the local area. We stayed 2 nights and would highly recommend them for anyone in the Wimberley/Texas Hill Country area needing a place for a couple of nights. We look forward to seeing them again in the future and we are happy to have some new friends!
We had a great time and a warm hospitality with Robert and his family. We really enjoyed to meet them and to visit the country and take the good recommendations of them!big thanks!
RusticRobert are amazing hosts! They are so warm and welcoming. They are as available as you need and as present as desired. Robert responded quickly to our inquiry. We were traveling from San Antonio to Austin and we weren’t planning on stopping on the way, but we are so glad we did! Robert set us up with our pick of boondocking sites on their beautiful ranch, and ran electrical out to us. They provided great local recommendations, including a travel guide for Wimberley. We are so glad to have met these wonderful people!
