The host was so sweet and the location was perfect. We loved our stay.
Halwiseguy is a great, friendly host. We enjoyed our stay and had great conversations with him. Close to town and shopping but nice and quiet. Got to see deer, turkeys, but no bear lol. Would love to stay here again if in the area. Thank you!
Enjoyed staying at Hal’s place. I was able to get a good Verizon signal, 5-10 Mbits up and down.
Location was a good base camp for excursions to Sequoia, Kings Canyon and Yosemite.
I’m amazed at the generosity of Halwiseguy, letting us stay on his property for 5 days. He helped us get into the spot and made us feel welcome. He even created a patio space for guests! The location is close to Yosemite and the town has everything you need. Highly recommend this host.
Great location for visiting Yosemite. Host was more than accommodating. Super friendly. When we arrived He was a Host and when we left He was a genuine friend. I hope we have the opportunity to meet again someday. Wildlife is abundant on his property as well.
This was our 1st boondocking experience. Hospitable host. Got us located. Didn't see much of him after that. Steep hill getting in and out but manageable. Street numbers are wonks, GPS was off.
Hal has a great place to view wildlife and is centrally located. Very generous guy. Would love to stay there again.
I’m great full for people like my host. He was a great host and communicated clearly. This was my first time using Boon dockers welcome.
We were looking forward to our stay in Oakhurst with our Boondocker host and were not dissapointed. Halwiseguy was very helpful and welcoming, he helped make our stay one of the best we've had at a Boondockers Welcome site. Teri loved watching all the birds that would come by in the early morning or at dusk like the turkey's and their young. She even saw a red tailed hawk (impressive). Our host was also kind enough to let us make use of the grounds and gave us directions to the best places to enjoy Bass Lake, which we did for one day with perfect weather and water. We will definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in this area (Sierra's and close to Yosemite) and not be in the middle of crowds.
Mr. Weissman was just wonderful and his property was perfect. There was a bit of a mix-up with the dates (entirely my fault) but he was totally welcoming and very kind. The property is just a few miles from the south entrance to Yosemite and it's also in the lovely town of Oakhurst. Great visit!
Upon arrival out host met us at the driveway entrance and helped me park my rig. Which was very much appreciated. He showed us the water and electric hook ups and was very helpful. He even showed us his 5th wheel he is working on.
This is the perfect place to visit Yosemite. Do not take the road thru Mariposa because of the toad construction going on.
Oakhurst has several grocery stores and a brewery. Which we visited. Flights were expensive but growler refills were only $15.
Back to This place. We spent two nights and the second morning we were visited by a turkey and two deer in out front window.
The host was very helpful and I recommend this place wholeheartedly!
One last thing. If you are towing you might want to unhook prior to turning on to Honeysuckle.
Our site was great, close to where we wanted to be. And our host was great, he had very good suggestions on what to see and do in that area. Enjoyed our stay.
Halwiseguy’s exemplifies the warm hospitality that Boondockers Welcome is so well known for. You could not ask for a more wonderful host.
This location is perfect for visiting Yosemite National Park and the beautiful Bass Lake. You are just a few miles from the geographical center of California. That’s a fun afternoon outing. Our host had many recommendations on things to see and do in the area and we certainly took notes and followed up on these suggestions.
This location is perfect for larger rigs. It is also very flat, shaded by big beautiful trees and very quiet. Enjoy the deer and ‘pet’ turkeys.
Follow your host’s instructions. You do not want to come in here on the backroads (which your GPS might direct you to do).
What a great spot! I'm grateful to have spent a few days here getting ready for my next travel. The site is very level and thoughtfully set up. I was impressed by the host, who has been very generous in providing a regularly-used space even during a period he's not able to travel himself. I enjoyed getting to see his rig too!
A great place to stay and visit Yosemite. Hal was great and very helpful. Would highly recommend this location!
We enjoyed our stay at Halwiseguys so much we extended for a day Great host. Great location. Highly recommend. 👍👍👫🙏
Our stay at Halwiseguy was fabulous. A great spot for access to Yosemite south entrance. Beautiful spot with nice view and very gracious host. 👍👫🙏
Peaceful spot, host was very nice. We enjoyed sitting out in the evening with a camp fire and going for a walk in the area behind the property. We visited Yosemite Valley (1.5hrs drive) and Bass Lake (15 mins drive).
Halwiseguy was a great host, very helpful and friendly! Beautiful view from the yard, a great neighborhood to walk through - a restful place to stay!
What a beautiful spot! This was one of our favorite locations yet, so scenic and relaxing. Feels private and secluded yet only 5 minute drive to town. The undeveloped neighborhood that connects to the host’s yard was perfect for walking our dog. About 1.5 hours to Yosemite Valley on a weekday, and we recommend other hikes in the area like Angel Falls and Corlieu Falls. The host let us use his portable fire pit which was so nice of him. We had 30 amp and water, what more could you ask for? We would definitely come back, thank you so much!
I was extremely fortunate to stay, experience and explore the area. Albeit growing up nearby it has been awhile since I visited Yosemite, Bass Lake, North Fork and had an opportunity to enjoy time at each as well as the property itself. It’s a great place to walk and watch/listen to wildlife. Super helpful host for this newbie. Would definitely recommend.
We really enjoyed our time. We spent 3 nights and used the site as a home base while we visited Yosemite (2 hour drive into the Valley). Host was courteous and met us out to help us park. Thank you for having us.
This stay was really great. The location is within the cool town of Oakhurst, yet the host property has a more remote feel. The host is such a good guy and helped us get backed in. We did a waterfall hike on one day and a more strenuous hike (through snow) to Bull Buck (giant Sequoia tree) on another day, both within 20 minutes of this location. Really couldn't ask for a better BW location, site, and host!
It was our host and it was a real pleasure to meet and talk with him. The area is good for dogs too - though as always off leash at night can be dangerous if your dog like to chase critters that get defensive, have claws and know how to use them.
There is a table on a small brick patio he built for morning coffee and day plan time.
Great stay and hope to return soon!
Great location to stay if you are visiting Yosemite and nearby towns. Great Sprint/T-Mobile and Verizon cell service. We are working remotely and we had no issues here. Halwiseguy was a king and amazing host. His property is huge enough to go on walks and let the doggies run free. The location where you rig will be parked is private enough and safe. Can’t wait to be back.
Halwiseguy was always there to help. Including battening down things that could fly away in 60 mile an hour winds around midnight. The storm closed Yosemite for 3 or 4 days. Oakhurst is a great location for exploring. To big box grocery stores. Hardware store and small Tractor Supply. I happened to be there for the re-opening of SouthGate Brewery. They have amazing burgers and pub food. Oh yeah, the beer is over the top.
We extended for another night. This is such a quiet, peaceful area. We’ve enjoyed sunny afternoons outside. We’ve seen deer, squirrels, and birds. We’ve walked quiet country paths. Our host is a great guy, and we recommend his place highly!
We chose to stay again with Halwiseguy as he was so helpful and welcoming the first time and again this time it is now our “go to” spot when we visit. He helped us with our rv and answered our questions and gave us some suggestions. We had a very nice conversation with him about traveling. It was a lot of fun!
Halwiseguy was very gracious and helpful. Property was flat and easy set up. He guided us on the property. Highly recommend this place!
Host was helpful in getting positioned and offered other help. Would allow us to stay longer than the 5 days. 30 minutes to Yosemite on a weekday. Bass Lake Recreation Area is also close. Longer travel trailers turn wide to clear the fence.
We stayed five nights in this quiet, scenic, level spot. We saw deer, went for a walk, and went to Yosemite. Our host was here to greet us and direct us into our spot. We aren’t the best at backing up, but Halwiseguy told us which way to turn the wheels and got us where we needed to be. We loved it here, and would stay again. If you are visiting Yosemite, this is the place to stay; less than 20 miles to the south entrance of the park.
So blessed to have met this awesome man and stayed at his amazing spot. He was incredibly welcoming, helpful, and warm and I hope to come back to his spot sometime soon!
Halwiseguy met us and helped us back into the very level spot. He offered suggestions for places to eat in the area and tips for our visit to Yosemite. We had a great 3 night stay and would stay here again if in the area again.
We had an wonderful time! The hosts were so nice and the dogs loved having a lot of space to roam around! We didn’t bring our vehicle with us on this trip and the host was kind enough to offer to run us to the grocery store. He was very knowledgeable and informative which is very helpful being new to the RV life! We highly recommend this spot!
Perfectly lovely place, close to town and near beautiful natural wonders.
Halwiseguy goes above and beyond what is required to be a Boondockers host. I came as a stranger and left feeling like family.
Even though we didn’t get to spend a lot of time with Halwiseguy he was a gracious host who met us upon arrival and helped us back in to the spot and offered electric and water. Easy set up as the land was level. He was very helpful with suggestions on what to see in the area! Nice friendly host. We went to Bass lake and had a great time! Definitely would come back!
We were a little apprehensive about getting in to Halwiseguy's parking spot because of the size of our motor home 39 ft. We had disconnected our tow vehicle. But, with Halwiseguy's help we were able to get in. The spot is fairly level. I did have to use my leveling jacks. We used his 50 amp connection and the water and gave him the requested $10 a day. They are located in the country a short drive from town, Oakhurst, CA. We saw wild turkeys and quail several days. It is really quite and peaceful there. I needed to replace a marker light on one light and the lens on the other for the marker lights on the back of the motor home. Halwiseguy got a tall step later and took them apart and told me what I needed to fix them. Got them at Auto Zone. I also had a part missing from my Air Force One air brake system for my tow vehicle. Halwiseguy made a part for me. He has a complete shop. I never got to formally meet his wife, but my wife did and said Hal's wife is really sweet. Halwiseguy is a really nice guy and will go out of his way to help you in any way you can. If we are ever this way again we will definitely try to get to stay with Halwiseguy. If you get the chance you should stay there also.
We were running late so we called the host and he explained were to park. No problems. Spot nice and level. The hook up were there but we didn't use them
Halwiseguy is a fantastic host. He responded to my texts, helped me find his place and set up, provided electricity and water, and was helpful and friendly. The spot is grassy and flat. Thank you!
We had some wet and snowy weather during our visit - host was super kind and helpful. We couldnt make it into his preferred location due to the weather, but we were able to hook up in another location and it was perfect.
We are very grateful for the access to utilities while we stayed!
When we pulled in they met us out at the gate and helped direct the rig into the space. Everything was perfect! There was even a table and chairs with umbrella next to a small gazebo. Even though we were too busy to stay around and use it it is the perfect set up for people visiting. Such a nice couple and we wish them well with their upcoming travels. We definitely recommend the spot!
Really great hosts. Close to town ,quiet peaceful place . Hiking trails, easy access in and out. If you are going to the Yosemite area this is the place to stay.
He was more than accommodating and very nice. Very energetic and inviting. Definitely would stop by if in the area again.
Hosts were the kindest people helpful and great with suggestions what to see in their area. Their setup for Boondocker is inviting : water and electricity and a table with umbrella and twinkling lights. Their location is very convenient to national park-We went to Yosemite: glacier point- one day and valley the other. Thank you 😊
Very nice place to stay to visit Yosemite! Host was very kind and helpful to make our stay comfortable. Nice flat parking spot.
Thanks for hosting us. Nice place to stay, closed enough to Yosemite. Our host gave us some good advice about Yosemite, where to go and what to do. Closed to different stores and grocery stores.
Half and Mary were great. Very accommodating. Steep drive but doable for 30 foot class A motorhome and a road jeep.
We can not say enough good things about this couple! They were both so hospitable, friendly, and kind! We felt so comfortable and relaxed on our stay. They were so friendly to talk to and gave us great local tips on the area. We appreciate their kindness and help so very much and would highly recommend these hosts!!
Friendly people! Their grand daughter even took my kids to the pond to look at tad poles, we would definitely stay again. Comfortable graded site. Steep hill coming in and out but we did just fine with a 32 ft. Class C. We stayed for just one night on our way to Yosemite.Thank you for your hospitality!
Spent only a night on our way to Yosemite and it was very good. Would stay there again without hesitation.
This is my first boondocking experience and I could not have chosen and better place. Halwiseguy are kind and welcoming. Their place is quiet and peaceful, located very close to Yosemite NP. I am so very grateful for their hospitality. Thank you!
I was looking for a place to stay near Yosemite before I went I to the park for the weekend. I got that, but so much more! Hal noticed something wrong with one of my wheels and had me pull around to his garage. He went of his way to remove the wheel, make multiple trips with me to Napa Auto Parts, and replace my bearings before they went completely bad and took out my axel. The kindness of strangers!! Wow!
Thanks Hal and Mary! We really appreciated you sharing your quiet and peaceful property with us during our visit. Loved seeing the deer and wild turkeys, and enjoyed walking the park-like area behind your house. I hope you guys enjoy your Alaska trip!
Thank you so much Hal, you were a wonderful host and have a beautiful property. We were able to visit the Maraposa Grove as well as Yosemite Valley. Additionally, Hal has frequent deer on the property which was a delight to see most mornings! Thanks again!
Wonderful, warm and fascinating couple. They also know a couple of great eateries, not to mention that Hal makes a fantastic burgers! Lol. Hosts that everyone should be fortunate to have. Hope to see both of them again in the future....
Very friendly and helpfull people. Nice place to stay. We wish we had more time to stay there but we had a next appointment so we had to travel further. Maybe next year?
Johan and Loes, Holland
We arrived and how was waiting to help us park our bus. Both of our Hosts were extremely friendly and upon leaving they helped us get our bus out of their parking area.
Great place and very gracious hosts! We were just passing through and needed a spot for the night. Even with only a few hours notice Hal responded and was able to accommodate us. Greeted us and helped us hook up to water and electric... nice bonus as we had been dry camping for several nights.
Thanks so much to Hal and Mary and their cute critters Morris and Chloë!
We could not have been happier than to stay here for a couple of days to explore Yosemite. Hal and Mary are the nicest people and truly were excellent hosts. From the beginning, Hal helped us get our fifthwheel in place and set up. They have a wonderful spot and we used their water and 20 amp connection along with our solar setup. We had fun exchanging travel stories and just having good conversation. Peaceful and quiet location with lots of birds and deer. We will make a point to visit again. Thanks again for your wonderful hospitality.
Great place to stay near Yosemite! Great parking spot with electric and water. They also have wildlife, a nice place to walk and a pool that they let us use. Both very giving and friendly.
Great spot with level site. Hal help back us in and get hooked up.
Thanks again and sorry we didnt get to say goodbye.
We spent 2 nights at Hal's and his wife's place and it was really great. Their property is near the forest, the smell of wood was fantastic and gave a feeling of peace. It's a one hour drive to Yosemite Park. The water and electric connection was available. We loved the cats - one of them liked us and stayed in front of our trailer all night :)
Thank you for hosting us and sorry for blocking your truck, you are wonderful and caring people.
Wishing you the best,
Hal and Mary, their property, cats and cute dog, Chloe are not to be missed. Hal was so helpful checking my van for me (I have refrigerator problems, to name just one). The parking space is flat and under some trees. I was given water and electric connection. There are so many birds and wildlife around. I enjoyed my stay very much and hope to visit them again when the weather cools, if they'll have me again. Thank you Hal and Mary very much!
Excellent reception even though we arrived a day earlier than discussed! (My fault entirely).
Hal and Mary were excellent hosts as well as tour guides for the area surrounding Oakhurst.
Beautiful and tranquil setting with quite a bit of wildlife.
Be sure to check with them when you need a place to boondockers that is a great base for the hour and a half drive to Yosemite !
Hal and his wife were so kind and welcoming. They have two dogs and seven friendly cats! We just loved the picturesque setting and starry skies.
Thanks again for your wonderful hospitality and for sharing your beautiful space!
thank you for your warm welcome,
we spend a very good night near your home
a couple of french
We had the pleasure of staying two nights with these awesome hosts. They live in a nice area and were very welcoming. We hope to be able to return the favour one day. Wishing you both safe travels and many wonderful experiences. We enjoyed spending time with you both and will think of you every time we encounter those dreaded switchbacks!
