Shaded mostly vacant lot behind my house with level drive in DeRidder Louisiana, near downtown within easy walking distance of multiple local dining establishments (BBBQ, Cajun, Health Food Store / Smoothy and sandwich stand, cupcake shop, Pizza and soon to be seasonal crawfish stand all less than 2 blocks away). Length is limited to about 60 ft although there is space to the side to park an unhooked TOAD, space does require backing out onto highway one way street for larger RV's so it may take a few minutes to get a break in the traffic to leave, and will require a backing spotter (pull through limited by overhanging limbs). Taller RV's may be height limited due to overhanging limbs at lot entrance. Some traffic noises plus only a couple of blocks from the train tracks, so not good for light sleepers. No water or electricity available on lot, ,free public dump station at city park less than a mile away.
Several guest have been concerned about ground being solid upon arrival, it is very solid, the area in front of the entry drive was a gravel parking lot 30-40 years ago, which has since been reclaimed by the grass, so now has only a thin layer of top soil before hitting the solid gravel.
Please try to keep a relatively low profile, the city has a new code enforcement officer who is cracking down around town on lots of stuff, no issues yet, but please try not to spoil a good thing..
As mentioned in description, lot is near downtown on 3 lane wide one way street (US Hwy) requires either backing in or out for larger RV's parking is on grass, but is solid grown over former paved drive from several decades ago, due to treeline blocking view of traffic spotter needed when backing out.
Area available to the side of the RV space on the vacant lot
We are home most of the time, often out of town for day trips on weekends though
Near downtown within easy walking distance of multiple local dining establishments (BBQ, Cajun, Health Food Store - Smoothy stand, cupcake shop, Pizza, small farmers market and seasonal crawfish stand all less than 2 blocks away) The city hosts festivals downtown several times per year mostly on weekends, some with live music on on the weekends, there is also a small museum, local library, and various downtown shops (antiques, etc.)
I enjoyed my two-night stay at this hidden gem of a spot just a block from downtown. Had it not been for Covid, I would've had a walk-about and visited some of the places the host mentioned. He graciously offered me use of his drop-cord to keep my Maxxfan and fridge running.
A tip for locating the free dump: look for the building with the "TSC" sign on the side and look behind it about 15-20 yards. A small, low sign marks the dump. The road is sloped downward so pull straight in if you have a long enough sewer hose. If not, the road circles around and you can dump from the driver's side like usual.
The locals are quick to blow their horns at cars who don't keep moving at the nearby intersection, but this stops during quiet hours. Also expect the bored local police to poke around. I just considered him my personal security guard. Like the dump, that was free too. A bit unsettling, but shouldn't be a problem for any law-abiding boondocker.
Ike was a very generous host and excellent communicator. We were scheduled for a 2 night stay, but he offered a third night in case we needed time to figure out the changes to our travel plans due to Covid-19. We accepted the offer. Although local museums were closed due to Covid concerns, we enjoyed a walk around a very interesting town and enjoyed boiled crawfish and shrimp from the next door crawfish shack. Hope to return to the area in the future.
This was our second stay with Ike he is quick to greet us and even offered a plug in. Had the best crawfish from right next door and enjoyed again our stay
Ike was amazing with communication and direction ahead of our visit. We were very thankful for the pitstop in Deridder, a neat little town. The yard was private and even. Be sure to come during crawfish season because the lot is right next to a crawfish shack!
Ike was very inviting with his space. Plenty of lot to be shared between 'docker and owner; the way the property is oriented. Even had a private driveway! Close to everything you need and some nice local eats. Stop by and see Dolly at downtown Ground for a homey home-town coffee shop too. Most of all, great thanks to Ike and his family for allowing me to visit. Thanks man!
