San Diego

First established in 1769, San Diego didn’t become part of the United States until 1848. Since then, the town has attracted tourists and visitors from all over due to its amazing climate, beautiful beaches, and endless things to do.

The top thing to do, aside from visiting the beaches, would be to visit the San Diego Zoo. Oregon

Portland and Coastal North Oregon

Portland is the largest city in Oregon and is often considered the most interesting. Between the amazing food scene, the breweries, and the endless list of things to do, paired with the stunning mountainous backdrop, Portland should be on everyone’s bucket list of places to visit. Similar to Eugene, consider making Portland, or its surrounding areas, your basecamp while you explore the ocean, coastal towns, and nearby Mt. Hood.

This stunning mountain frames Portland, making for a dramatic skyline. Be sure to check out Mt. Hood National Forest, which provides ample opportunities for a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, biking, and summer skiing. For a fun tour of Portland, consider going on a brewery tour or a dinner cruise. It’s also definitely worth it to check out the Portland Art Museum.

Washington

Washington State is also coastal on the west side and borders the Salish Sea to the north. Just across that body of water is Canada. Washington is one of the most mountainous states in the country and is also home to three stunning national parks.

Washington has two western bays that feed from the Pacific Ocean. The coastal towns and rivers around them are brimming with possibilities and adventures.

Located right between the two bays is the Seashore Conservation Area State Park. Despite how rugged the coastlines are, these areas still need to be protected. In and around these bays, and within the state park, there are tons of hiking opportunities. Canada
