New Feature: Share Hosting Credits
We have so many amazing hosts, some of whom have welcomed over 200 guests in the last 2 years! Due to their amazing generosity, some of our hosts have more hosting credits than they could ever use in a lifetime. We'd like to thank those hosts by letting them donate those credits to worthy individuals, so starting today you can do exactly that. The system will let you share your credits in two different ways, as a "donation transfer" or as an "introduction transfer".
Donation Host Credit Transfers
If you have a good friend or family member who is already a Boondockers Welcome member but can't host themselves, you can donate a year's worth of credits to them at a time. The recipient must already have an active Boondockers Welcome guest privileges subscription, and the credits will immediately be activated when you transfer them to extend that user's subscription. You can donate to as many different members as you like, or to the same member multiple times, but you must always donate 1-year's worth (i.e. four 3-month host credits) at a time.
With this feature, if you are current guest member who is unable to host but have a friend or family member who could host on your behalf, you can make an arrangement with them to have them transfer their host credits to you after every four guests who stay. Of course, how you thank them for hosting on your behalf is up to you!
Introduction Host Credit Transfers
Do you know someone who you think would love Boondockers Welcome but has never signed up? Now you can give them one of your host credits as a 3-month introduction to our amazing community. All they need to do is create a free account and let you know their username, and then you can transfer a 3-month credit to them, which they can then activate at their leisure. Note that this type of transfer is restricted to recipients who have never had an active guest privileges subscription before.
To see how many credits you have and donate any, just head to the Subscription Details section of Your Account page. From there you can head to your subscription credits page, where you'll find two buttons at the bottom for the different kinds of transfers.
New Feature: Request Date Change
We know that plans sometimes change. Whether it's mechanical issues, the weather, or something else, sometimes after requesting a stay with a host you'll want to ask if the dates can be altered slightly. Up until now, you've had to cancel the old request and issue a new one. Well, no more! You'll now see a button at the bottom of the stay request details that says "Request Date Change". It will allow you to choose a new arrival date and length of stay and add a note to send to the host to explain the reason for the change request.
Note that only guests are able to request a change of dates, and that if the request was previously accepted, it will go back into the "requested" state, meaning that a host will need to re-accept it with the new dates. You also won't be able to request date changes for stays that have already completed. In that case, you'll still need to cancel the stay and request a new one.
General Performance Improvements
In addition to these new features, you may notice some of our pages loading faster than before... we're trying to make some tweaks to reduce our page sizes and improve our page load times, since we know that many of you are on the road or on slower mobile connections. We'll continue to work on this, but hope that you've noticed a bit of a speed bump on many pages already!
We've got some other projects underway too, although quarantine productivity isn't quite as glamorous as the internet makes it seem (especially with kids at home too!). We're working on our mobile app and while our original plan to have it out by summer may be delayed, we're still aiming for sometime this year. We'll keep you posted!
